The Conclusion of 2013 & Looking Ahead Into 2014

So now that 2013 is behind us and 2014 has begun.... It can be a difficult time for many. Looking back on the past year can be a tough time for some filled with thoughts of unaccomplished goals, several "what if" questions, wondering where all the time went, and all sorts of negativity. While for others they might be looking back with happy memories of the year and thoughts of success. It differs from person to person. I'll admit I'm often more negative than I should be, and found it easier to come up with a list of the bottom 10 moments of the year rather than a top 10. My New Year's Resolution for 2014 is to be more positive, and to kickstart that I sat down and came up with a top 25 moments of 2013 as opposed to just a top 10. I'd rather remember the fun times of 2013 than the bad in the end.

A new year has begun. A time where many begin New Year's Resolutions where they make goals for themselves that in some way are intended to make their lives better if the goal is achieved. New Year's Resolutions come in many different forms. There's always the common resolution of wanting to lose weight. Others want to find a better job. Some might try to seek true love this year. Then there are those who simply want to be more courageous, more confident, or (as it is in my case) have a more positive outlook on life. This isn't even the tip of the iceberg. It's uncommon for two people to have identical resolutions, so for those that have one I always find it interesting to share them each January.

Here are some discussion questions.

Was 2013 a good year or a bad one overall? Any particular reasons for why? What were some of the bigger moments of the year for you?

Did you have any goals you set out to accomplish in 2013 that you'd like to share?

Is there anything about this year you think you would have done differently looking back on it?

Do you have a New Year's Resolution for 2014 that you would like to share, or perhaps other goals for things you would like to see happen in your life this year?

Discuss! :)

Personally, I had a good year. Probably the best of my teen years so far. It came to my attention that I have OCD which was a little blow and there were some issues with my biological father, but as the months went by and as someone who has been told several times by adults to relax, I've learnt to overcome a lot of my own problems which lead to a very relaxing yet hardworking year.

I study Double Science meaning there's two exams and to different qualifications (assuming you pass) and the first one was done in 2013. My teacher had predicted me a D and I ended up getting a solid B grade (309/400). It turns out that was higher than everyone in the set above me so I felt like my work payed off. After that I've shown a high level of interest in my work as opposed to the year before and it is paying off. I realized that science was the field I wanted to enter in the near future.

Growing older I've learnt who my true friends are and who are "keepers" if you will. I developed a lot of strong bonds last year and that's been good for me mentally.

The only thing I regret is not going to the gym. I kept on excusing myself from attending. I'm hoping to start next week and make it a habit. The food I eat is fine but burning off those calories is what's required after which I didn't do. I'm also religious but I must admit I haven't been a strong one. Let's hope this year is a little better.

If I had to go one way or the other I'd say it was a decent year. I pushed myself to get out more often and to make plans with people outside of the normal stuff I do.

I got to see some concerts that I enjoyed with one of them being a total spur of the moment trip.

I made a few new friends and even though the circumstances weren't the best I'm glad they came into my life. They're all definitely positive people which I need to have around.

This goes with what I said in my last answer. I wanted to weed out the negative people in my life and try to gain some positive ones. I did that. That's the only thing I really had set that I wanted to do.

Is there anything about this year you think you would have done differently looking back on it?

I wasted time on a girl that I probably shouldn't have because in the end it wasn't worth the stress. She is a friend of a friend and I was told to be cautious but I didn't take that warning too seriously. So that was pretty pointless.

Do you have a New Year's Resolution for 2014 that you would like to share, or perhaps other goals for things you would like to see happen in your life this year?

Not really. I took a three month break from playing music at the end of 2013 and I'm working on getting back into that. Otherwise there's nothing I could think of for 2014 that I really wanted to change.
