The C.M.Punk Curse?!?

instantkarmaVA

Is here for the punch and pie...
Mr. Punk won the MITB match 2 years in a row and was successful in winning the World Heavyweight Championship when he cashed in his briefcase or however it works. His first reign wasn't anything to write home about. He really didn't have any big wins and got screwed at the end of his WHC run. Does anyone think he will get to redeem himself this time around as champ or is he destined(CURSED) to short, shitty title runs and being in MITB matches for the next few years?

I'm hoping he gets to have successful defenses this time around. His win over Jericho this week on SD is a step in the right direction. Smackdown has some great wrestlers to challenge Punk and I hope he gets his time to shine.

I hate the word cursed. Rubbish. I really don't know, I mean the win over Jericho helps, but other than Edge and Hardy, who else does he have to go over? Maybe Taker when he comes back. The only way I see it being a credible reign is if he can hang onto it for a while, because the name value is not there. I'd laugh if he loses it on Monday.

CM Punk has become much more legitimate this year. Last year he was not even supposed to win MITB but Jeff Hardy decided he was above the "Wellness" Policy.

Last year he was losing like crazy up until he cash MITB. This time he had two victories over Umaga and beat Jericho. As well as was last man standing in the ring at the end of Smackdown.

Well let's compare his first reign to his curent reign.

His first reign, he cashed in on Edge.
This reign he cashed in on Hardy.
There's not much to compare so far apart from the whole heel/face thing, but that shouldn't come into how a good a world title reign is.

His first promo during his first title reign was a whole big bucket of Meh. He talked, said how wonderful it was and was interrupted by JBL.
His first promo during the second title reign was intense. He was trying to explain to the crowd why he did what he did, while the crowd gave him one of the loudest mixed reactions I have ever heard. That promo gave him a challenge, trying to make the fans forgive him again, and it was good to watch.

His first reign, he won his first match as champion over JBL.
His current reign, he won his first match over Jericho.
Now I would much rather win a match over Jericho rather than JBL. At this time last year, JBL had become a nothing. He hadn't accomplished anything since his US title win. He even lost to Mysterio during Mysterio's title reign, that's how worthless he was.
Jericho on the other hand is the second biggest heel on SD. He won 2 world title last year, won a big match at Mania and is the current IC champion. It's still a pretty big deal to beat Chris Jericho.

At the end of the show with his first reign as champion, he was completely upstaged by Cena and his feud with JBL. Cena came out with Cryme Time and attacked JBL's security and everyone was watching that so not many people noticed when Punk pinned JBL clean.
At the end of SD last night, Punk was almost upstaged by Hardy and Edge. But in the end he came in a GTSed the face off Hardy and he was standing tall as SD went off the air.

So far, his second reign is much better than his first. He's just been better allround and certainly acts more like a champion this time.

I think that this reign will be better than the last once for a number of reasons.

1. He isn't on a show that's stacked with Cena, Roidtista & company.
2. He' on a show with better stars in my opinion(Edge, Hardy, Taker & Jericho)
3. So far he hasn't been booked like shit like his first reign(see reason #1 for example)
4. He's either gonna be a heel or a tweener & his character is a bit more better this time around.
5. Like Blade said, this time around he has gotten better in every aspect. I wish he would get to cut promos more often, but I do think that with time he will get to do that whether he's face, heel or tweener. Also he is more legitamate this time than he was last year.

Those are the reasons why I think Punk's reign this time will be better & he will not be a curse.

I think people are missing what they were trying to achieve with CM Punk's first title reign. Punk was never meant to be booked as a strong face champion. He might never be - he doesn't really have the build for it, you see. It wouldn't really make sense for him to run in and start kicking asses and taking names.

However, he pulled off the underdog role with more success than Rey Mysterio (who got the living fuck kicked out of him nightly) or John Cena (who you knew would always win... unless he was facing Triple H). In other words, he struck a good balance.

Was it a particularly remarkable title reign? Yes and no. It was new, original and, for me anyway, relatively interesting reign. He didn't set the world on fire, but he wasn't meant to. It was a transitional reign and likely a test run for Punk.

As for right now, he's beaten SmackDown's number two heel without a terrible amount of difficulty and ended the night after kicking the crap out of the two title contenders. I'd also predict he'll retain the title on Raw. So yeah, it does look like the WWE is allowing him to look more dominant.

Man that promo to open Smackdown was an eye opener. I really only seen a few promo's from Punk, man he has drastically improved. If they keep going this route, I think he really can be a good champion. I think the first step would be a clean win over Jeff Hardy. Just so he can prove he can beat him and whatnot. That old chestnut. I am actually excited for this.

Punk has shown something more different then his last reign, he has proven that
he is strong on the mic, and that he can surprise us all, did anyone see this coming?, no did anyone see Punk defeating the most over face world champion in the WWE's smackdown roster at this time, again no.

And punk blew me away with the huge promo by showing a more tweener persona, I believe he will be full blown heel sooner then later and will prove otherwise dominant on smackdown, Proving his previous win to be legit, he deserves his spot and i hope he grows with it even more.

Punk Is not cursed, hes just straight edged

Eh. The first reign was really only to get Edge's title to Raw. After that they were winging it. He was supposed to be the underdog, and he was. People just weren't used to a underdog who actually got his ass kicked all the time. We were used to the Rey Mysterio underdog, the one who says he's the underdog, but really kicks a lot of ass.

This second reign should be better. It'll be new, because Punk is just starting in on a teased heel turn, what with him cashing in against Hardy and what not. It'll open up new feuds, because who has Punk really feuded with that's on Smackdown other than the now released Umaga? He even has a built-in Edge feud after Hardy, because Edge never got his revenge feud with Punk after the first cash-in.

I'm holding out hope for it. Though I won't be surprised if it flops. Or if Smackdown's ratings somehow sink lower than you'd expect on a network barely anyone gets on your basic cable package.

I absolutely hate CM Punk. But I have to apologize to WWE Creative. They've actually have surprised me and have given me hope for CM Punks Main Event future. I just hope the WWE doesn't fuck this up. Edge and Punk should be pretty good as a feud, and with Hardy involved, this should be very interesting, possibly turning CM Punk heel. I just wish Punk had gone pure Heel on Friday, that would have been great, he could have talked about how he defeated the most Cheered for wrestler in the industry today, and that he's not afraid of anything. Hardy comes out, they start arguing, then Edge comes out pissed at Hardy, and chaos could have started. At least, thats how I would handle it, creative did a great job suprising me this time, just like last years cash in.

Now this cursed CM Punk you are refering to, I donnt think that he will suffer the same fate that he suffered last year. There is nobody who looks really stronger than Punk like last year on Raw (Cena, Batista, JBL) on Smackdown (Jericho, Edge, Hardy). If they have Punk beat both Edge and Hardy in Championship defenses, they can build up a Taker return for Summerslam against Punk, which would be an interesting sight to see, (or Hardy Vs Taker, loved their ladder match) but only time will tell.

Last year, even while he was champion, I didn't believe that he was Main Event talent. He played the underdog too well. But now he seems ready for a legit title reign. At least to me.

First of all, even if something happens twice it's hardly a curse. In my opinion, doing anything only twice is a coincidence at the most.

Second of all, Punk did have a very successful title defense against JBL at Summerslam. Say what you will about Punk's lackluster first title reign but defending a World title successfully at the second biggest PPV of the year is a big deal.

I believe Punk's reign this time around will be much better than his first. Posters like Big Pimpin have mentioned a lot of the reasons why I feel this way. Punk is on the brand right now that isn't jam packed with Vince's boys. It's a brand where smaller workhorses reign supreme. That fits Punk to a tee. He doesn't have to worry about Vince hotshotting the title to Cena, Dave or Hunter. His biggest competition is guys like Kane and Chris Jericho who are also known as workhorses who don't get the title reigns they're due. Everyone is on a level playing field on SD.

This also means that should Punk lose the title he'll still be in the title hunt. He won't be immediately dropped down to IC or tag team title level in favor of the big names. On SD Punk is one of the big names.
