The best song cover

Lee

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it's Supermod!
Jeff Buckley: Hallelujah.
Hendrix: All Along the Watchtower
Joan Jett: I love Rock and Roll

What would you say?

As Hallelujah is already (rightfully) mentioned, I'd throw in Lilac Wine as another fantastic Jeff Buckley cover.

Nirvana - Where did you sleep last night?
Jimi Hendrix - All along the watchtower
Placebo - Running up that hill
Muse - Feeling good
Any Rodrigo y Gabriela cover

Feeling Good by Muse
Go Your Own Way by Biffy Clyro
Umbrella by the Manic Street Preachers
Fall at Your Feet by Marmaduke Duke

Several Kate Bush songs, Free fallin' by John mayer, obadiah parker's Hey Ya, Newton Faulkner's Foundations, and I've got a soft spot for this:

Oh, and Israel K something something' rendition of Over The Rainbow.

Also, I don't even know the original but I've loved this for time:

Thought it said best song ever, my bad

My favourite covers though

Faith No More-War Pigs

Mike Patton honestly does a better job vocally than Ozzy does

Killswitch Engage-Holy Diver

The original is cool and all but it never amped me up like this does

Biffy's cover of Umbrella isn't too shabby either.

You should look up the YouTube video where they played Umbrella at a secret gig in a church. When Ben sings "There's no distance in between our love," Simon breaks down laughing. It's awesome.

Haiku and Jimi take this, but these are nice too:

1) Lee stole this from my Facebook.

2) You all disappoint me.

C) The topic of this thread is the BEST cover song, not cover songs you like. I'm sorry, but bands I've never heard of covering some of the all time greatest rock and roll songs isn't going to cut it.

IV) The right answer is Eric Clapton's I Shot The Sheriff (in terms of improvement over the original) or Jimi Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower (in terms of overall song quality). Every other answer is incorrect.

Of what Lee provided, Hendrix had the best cover.

IV) The right answer is Eric Clapton's I Shot The Sheriff (in terms of improvement over the original)

Wrong.

This is shit:

This is amazing:

or Jimi Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower (in terms of overall song quality). Every other answer is incorrect.

Again, wrong. This isn't even subjective, it changed the music world forever, and it's a cover.

Wrong.

This is amazing:

I suppose that's fair. I Shot The Sheriff is still better than Baldy McPope-Ripper's Nothing Compares 2 U, though.

Again, wrong. This isn't even subjective, it changed the music world forever, and it's a cover.

Just because it changed music doesn't make it a better song. A more historically significant song, maybe, but not a better song. Love The Beatles as I do, give me Jimi's All Along The Watchtower every time.

On a related note, Twist and Shout isn't even my favorite Beatles cover. Their version of You Really Got a Hold on Me is just fantastic.
