The Best of Chris Benoit

I consent - at least with the feeling. Unfortunately, I discover it too challenging (if not impossible) to reunite what he did with my admiration for his perform and the perform others did with him. It would be much simpler for me if I could come across a Frank Benoit go with and not discover it powerful or interesting.

All of his matches, his entire body of work could make the DVD.

Attribute that quote to Triple H or Tyson Kidd and you've got another thing to put in the DVD.

I agree - at least with the sentiment. Unfortunately, I find it difficult (if not impossible) to reconcile what he did with my appreciation for his work and the work others did with him. It would be much easier for me if I could come across a Chris Benoit match and not find it compelling or entertaining. First and foremost, it should be remembered that Chris Benoit was a man who killed his wife and child in cold blood. Anything else is, at best, secondary.

Additionally, I understand and even support WWE's censorship - to a degree. On the one hand, why wouldn't you want to keep the man that nearly brought the whole house crashing down at arm's length? On the other, if we shut our eyes and put our fingers in our ears every time someone brings up Chris Benoit, have we really learned anything? Are we taking any responsibility?

I am not entirely sure that cold blood has a scientific definition but I am not sure I would describe what happened with Benoit as such. I don't see why you can't remember what Benoit did without watching his matches. It is indeed unfortunate though that the only thing WWE could reasonably do was sweep Benoit under the rug instead of discuss a complicated but unpleasant situation. They were able to help the wrestlers cope behind the scenes but the audience never really got that opportunity. I personally choose not to watch his work because I find seeing him to be unpleasant as it is unsettling given the horrific nature of what he did.

I will say that I think one crime of passion in the wake of what happened is how WWE peeps have become excessively defensive of the quality of the so called wellness program. It is at best a step in the right direction and it is defended as so much more than that. If people really were not just putting their fingers in their ears then they would not sit idle while many of the problems that likely contributed to the incident still exist. If you can still appreciate his talent then that is fine but I think just as many people ignore the real issues that watch his matches as those that don't. In fact I'd argue it is worse among those that still watch. They are inevitably prone to rationalization.

Personally, I feel that honoring Chris Benoit is like honoring OJ Simpson. I don't think any of them deserve it because they negated a lifetime of accomplishments for their own, personal, psychotic gain.

Had no idea Stanley Unwin was still alive.

Works for me. I'm one of the ones who still has no problem watching and enjoying Benoit matches. Honouring the man? Fuck that. But I'm without scruples when it comes to still finding him entertaining.

A few unmentioned matches that spring to mind immediately:

Benoit vs DDP vs Raven at Uncensored 1998

Benoit vs Raven at Souled Out 1998

Some Benoit vs Booker match

Benoit vs Regal on Velocity in 2005 or at No Mercy 2006

Benoit vs Finlay at Judgement Day 2006

personal, psychotic gain.

What would you consider the gain benoit recieved in his actions?

Half agree with the statement though. The guy will never be regarded as much more than what his actions deemed him in the history books. He was a great wrestler, but I'm not gonna put a poster of him up on my wall. I can still watch and enjoy a match though. The work is still good, the person is tarnished. Is still enjoying the work as close to honouring as you deem it though? Unless Jake names the DVD "Chris Benoit-World Class Hero".

I try not to judge things I know little of, especially considering the brain damage revealed. I volunteer at an alzhiemers clinic, and had quite a few bad situations arise. We often blame the sickness rather than think the patient is a knob (even when they throw hot cups of tea at you). But in the case of Benoit, we dont know what the motivations were. I still have the Raw tribute to chris benoit on VHS somewhere, taped on the night, but havent brought myself to watch it (what a difference a day makes, eh?). In the case of the brain damage lead him to it, I would love to celebrate the life of the man before it took over. Its not the kind of thing a person can fight against, after all. There iss no real choice in the matter and no real chris benoit in the decision. But like I said, we dont know for sure. If we did, I'd have no problem putting in that VHS.

I have no problem with someone considering blaming the possible brain damage. What I have a problem with is people only using that to absolve Benoit of blame yet being intentionally oblivious to the blame which such an assertion would place on other factors.

chris benoit vs triple h vs shawn michaels was best match for sure. triple h and shawn micale gave it their best shot but still couldnt win

This is a hard one but you'd definitely have to include the best of 5 series with Booker T. Almost anything he did with Eddie Kurt and Jericho was great to.

I'm not very familiar with a lot of what he did in WCW but I am with all of his WWF/E work. All the stuff with Angle was pure gold, I enjoyed his earlier stuff with The Radicalz too
