Now I know some of you are thinking, What are you on about Shadowmancer? The Beach Boys aren't underrated they made all of these great songs like Good Vibrations, Surfin' USA, Help Me Rhonda, and so on and so forth listing the singles. Perhaps even throwing in Pet Sounds as an Album.
But I stand by the statement. But how much of the Beach Boys catalogue is ignored in favour of these singles?
While there are weak points within the albums how much of it is seriously able to be ignored, how much of the talent inside of The Beach Boys is ignored due to a misunderstood idea that Brian Wilson was the only creative member of the Beach Boys. I know it is a fallacy to believe that way, because the soul of the Beach Boys wasn't in Brian Wilson it was in his younger brother Dennis. Some of the deepest elements of the Beach Boys catalogue of songs comes during the period where they were somewhat ignored by the public with songs like this
Songs like this seem to be lost in the shuffle of Barbara Ann and Surfin' USA. I do blame Mike Love for this problem to an extent as his reluctance to shift away from the early stuff is a big problem.
But in the great Scheme of things The Beach Boys seem to be lost within the haze when talking of great Bands as people will invariably mention the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac and many others but The Beach Boys. I am looking for the day when there is a true going through of the Beach Boys music that has not been released, as there is bound to be hidden gems in there.
The Role that members of the Beach Boys have had within the stories of other bands is just as important with artists like Jan and Dean among others. One of the most famous songs was co-written but not credited is You Are So Beautiful.
