Tattoo People, I need help.

I wanna get a Tattoo, and honestly I know what I want and can explain it out if need be. I do have a place around here that I want to go to, so I'm also not askin' about where I should get it/pricing and all.

What I wanna know is should I go in and have them draw it up for me, as in explain what I want, or get a buddy of mine whos a damn good drawer to do it for me and then take it to them. I figure both are going to charge me, but my buddy would probably be cheaper. Just not sure which to go too.

The tattoo artist is going to have to redraw it on something that will let the outline cone of on your skin so it doesn't really matter.

If you have your buddy draw it, the artist is just gonna redraw it anyway, most likely. In all my experiences, you start with the original idea, and they you revise it a tad, and they draw it. pretty much the way it always goes. you have to remember, if your bud is a good artist, fair enough, but the artist has to actually put that drawing ON you, with a gun and ink. its not exactly the same.

No, I get that bit. But its much easier for them to free hand it then create it from me just explainin' it ya know? And I'm pretty short on cash as it is, so I was just wondering if the artist normally charge pretty well for drawin' something up.

yea they do, but your likely to pay the same, being as they will have to redraw it anyhow. and BTW, majority of artists charge by the hour, so I doubt you will get simply quoted on an entire peice. its pretty rare.

Here's something so you have a rough price range to go by.

Eagle.jpg

this one cost me $50

other.jpg

this one cost me $300

Every artist charges differently so like I said this a rough price range

Actually...considering the size, I'm guessing in the ranges of the 300. I want a little color, so maybe just a little more. A same size piece was runnin' about 250

im tellin yaaaaaa its not the peice, its how much time it takes. color is going to take longer. much longer. for my arm peice, I had to go in two seperate sections. 6 hours total. its amazing how long the shit takes.

yup

If you want it done right you need to clear your afternoon (depending on the size of course)

for the small one I was in the chair for about an hour. For the bigger one it was about 3 hours

I'd rather be in the chair for 6 hours and have it done right than have it done in a hour and it look like such shit I have it shell out even more money to get the thing removed.

All in all I'm very happy with both my pieces

Oh no, you're not followin' my friend. I'm just talkin' the draw up. Or does that factor into the over-all cost?

And the color I want is VERY small, want me to explain the entire piece? You wouldn't understand it, though. XD

it all depends man. there is like, no set criteria of what costs what, it goes by artist. some charge for a draw up, some dont. I just mentioned the color costing more, becuase you said you had limited funds.

Oh yeah, I got that man. I've been through this place 3 times already, just checkin' things out with my friends. Its kind of a pain in the ass askin' for advice when its your first and got nothin' to base it off of. ~_~

When I went to get mine, I had a pic I printed off the computer. I dropped it off on Monday I think, and got it on Thursday. He didn't charge me for it at all. Like NorCal said, it probably just depends on the artist.

All the places near me don't charge you for having them draw it, per se. They make you put down a deposit, so they know you're not going to have them draw it, and then take it to another shop. There's also a lot of fucked up people around here.

I'd ask the shop. If they charge extra, have a buddy do it first. If they don't, let them. They're professionals.
