Tag Teams / Stables, Why Couldn't They Have Lasted Longer?

In this thread, I'd like to discuss tag teams and stables, that if continued, could have been some MUCH more then what they were? In other words, when the WWE team up some people for one week, or two and then forget about them almost immediatly afterwards... Did they walk past a twenty dollar bill on the ground (metaphorically speaking)? If you can't think of a few, then allow me to give a few examples, then I will do one (feel free to use your own combinations):

CTC (Cryme Tyme / Cena),
Mysterio and Batista,
Primo and Carlito,
Cade and Murdoch,
Spirt Squad (LOL),
CM Punk and Kofi Kingston,
Rated RKO,
Big Show and Kane,
Brothers of Destruction,

For me, it's Mysterio and Batista, in my opinion was a good cool down for Batista in the main events and gave them both a chance to mix up to unique styles which fit together like Cheese and Onions; Salt and Pepper; Chicken and Mayo; Chips (fries if you're American) and milkshake (yummy)...
I loved seeing them work together, mabye you disagree, but I thought they were great and would like to see more of them. Batista sets them up on the floor while Rey goes for the high flying move, or 619 into Batista's cluches and slam into the ground. I don't know about you, but that sounds like one deadly combination... I just would like to see that again at one point.

Rated RKO had the potential to be one of the most powerful tag teams ever. Even better, they could have eventually added some young proteges and expanded it to a full stable of guys, and kind of acted like a new version of Evolution, but with more of an emphasis on cheating, and how gold(titles) is the most important thing to them.

Also, CTC, as they would have feuded with Legacy, with could have been great, and built Rhodes and Dibiase much better as a tag team.

I think that Rated RKO was an awesome team and i think they could have done a lot mroe before splitting. But the main thing is that when they did split it wasn't done very well. This was a main event level team of two top heels and when they split Edge should have turned face for awhile and feuded with Orton. I think a true long-term rivalry between them would have been great and still would be great if done today.

Primo and Carlito getting split up was ******ed as well, and it pisses me off that tag teams cant stay together as long anymore. I thought their stuff against Miz and Morrison showed how entertaining they can be as a team both in the ring and out of the ring with the promos and segments.

I was a HUGE Spirit Squad mark as well, maybe because i just enjoy male cheerleaders (no homo). They drew amazing heat and were hilarious, Kenny their leader was particularly good in the ring and it was pretty sick when he used the trampoline.

There is still Legacy, which is one of the best stables I have seen in years. There is Rated RKO, which proved 2 standout megastars could work together and make an even bigger team. And there is the best stable I have seen in a long time, Evolution. Why can't stables or tag teams live longer? Because they don't have Orton. Simple.

On a serious note the WWE is slowly killing tag team competition. Stables are now just a way to push stars. TNA has some really good looking teams, and Main Event Mafia has been going strong for quite a while. Some life to scoff at TNA (Myself usually included) but they must know a thing or 2 about keeping certain teams alive.

For me it would be CTC. They just had something about them that made you think that they belonged in a stable together. All are quite athletic and could have had great feuds along the way with Legacy, LA Famillia, and now Jerishow.

I really hope that they strap the titles on Cryme Tyme soon. I think they are very entertaining in the ring and have paid their dues.

i agree with CTC, Big Show/Kane and Rated RKO...CTC kinda had the gangster rap thing goin for them (assuming Cena went back to his previous gimmick). I liked how dominant Kane and The Big Show were together. Rated RKO took 2 of the better heels and combined them into a tag team that worked together so well and took them out of the WHC/WWE Title picture for a while.

Here are 3 more tag teams I miss from the Attitude Era thats not currently being used due to injury, members not being in company anymore etc. :

1. Brothers of Destruction-I loved the chemistry they had in the ring together with the double sitting up, double chokeslams, dueling tombstone piledrivers
2. Undertaker and Big Show-same reason i loved Kane and Big Show
3. Rock n Sock Connection-great chemistry, had the toughness of both The Rock and Mick Foley, the hardcore and agility were both covered as well

Definitely all good contenders. But as for the present, I think the Colons shouldn't have been split up. The tag team division, I think we all can agree, needs to be vastly improved. The first way to do this is to DEVELOP tag teams. The WWE is not investing enough time into that.

On ECW, is seems as though Koslov and Jackson are developing some sort of bond. I think they have the potential to make a strong run as a tag team if they decide to go that way. Neither I think are ready to be top tier performers individually, but as a team they can be an intimidating force that has some validity.

The WWE should pair more of the crowded mid and lower card wrestlers.

Other teams that may work (using above criteria):

1) Chris Masters and Jack Swagger (RAW)
2) Sheamus and Festus (RAW & ECW)
3) Mark Henry and R-Truth (Raw & Smackdown)
4) Jesse and Ryder (ECW & Smackdown) .... just to name a few

obviously i was a fan of CTC, when CTC were fueding with JBL, and Priceless i yhought that was one of the better fueds year. i was in absolute hysterics when they screwed up his limo. the matches were great aswell.
they should have kept finlay and hornswoggle, the colons and jesse and festus because none of them have anything to do.

I personally think that Evolution was awesome, but I would love to see more longevity in the brothers of Destruction. When they got together you just believed that someone was going to get their ass kicked.

CTC

It just worked, they seemed like a perfect stable, to bad Cena go injured and nothing came out of it. They could still bring it back now, Cena, JTG, Shad. Have Eve as a valet, Add in R Truth and add Slam Master J in for some comedy.
Cena goes back to his Rapping Gimmick
Cena - Main Eventer
R-Truth - Mid Card
Cryme Tyme - Tag Team
Slam Master J - lol
Eve - Valet

I could see it working if we weren't in the pg era and Cena being all Super Cena and all.

The whole reason for stables & tag teams in professional wrestling are done for two purposes:

1) They are specialists. Nothing much is needed to be said, except that you have two or more people who have been teaming together for a long time, got great chemistry together & know how to work a tag match. An example are the Dudley Boyz in their WWE tenture. These guys are a tag team & are specialists at it. They were there to create great tag matches & to set the tone.

2) To build up something/someone. Many of the WWE tag teams of today have been placed together to make something or someone big within the team. For midcard placings like Cody/Ted [as they originally were midcarders] into a team is simply to build themselves up into becoming the great future stars. They may have the requirements for the midcard, but the main event area wont be happening anytime soon. So, they pair two of these guys together & presto! Look at Cody & Ted of today. Many fans know that these two will be in the business for a long time & will become great stars.

For the mega teams like Jerishow, they are building the tag team division or are just there for a feud against another huge team that has formed. There are other possible reasons here, but essentially it is to build up something that will positively impact the business but wont affect any wrestler status.

Rated RKO was a great team and things could have been even better had they lasted longer. I think I could have actually enjoyed a year long program with 6 months of Tagging and 6 months of feuding to end at the Survivor Series. Imagine Legacy (Orton, DiBiase, Rhodes, Manu, and Sim Snuka) vs. The Rated R Entourage (Edge, Chavo, Bam Neely, Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins).

All the others are also good picks. I’m just a huge SMark for Stables period.
