Superman

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it's Supermod!
According to Superherohype, Warner bros. have confirmed a complete reboot for Superman.

Warner Bros. also put on hold plans for another movie starring multiple superheroes -- known as "Batman vs. Superman" -- after the $215 million "Superman Returns," which had disappointing box-office returns, didn't please executives. "'Superman' didn't quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to," says Mr. Robinov. "It didn't position the character the way he needed to be positioned." "Had 'Superman' worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009," he adds. "But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all."

This I feel is much needed, Superman returns was absolutely dire, and seemed to forget some great things about the Superman legend. A re boot is much welcomed. I just hope they don't go all dark on it, because Superman doesn't really work well dark. I'd like to see them go into the character of Clark Kent a bit more AND GET RID OF HIS SON!!!

Superman is a series that has gone downhill since its inception. The first movie was nothing short of classic, with the rest going slightly downhill ever since. Superman Returns was just bad period. I think however that part of this is due to the success of TDK. If Superman tries to emulate that it will fail plain and simple. It had its promise but I can't imagine this working out that well. Superman just isn't a series that works well as a long film. Smallville is the best that has happened since the original movie because its about Clark, not superman. If that were the case, it could work. Other than that, I doubt it.

What a fucking waste of time, simply put. You invest all of that money to bring back Superman with Superman Returns, and now three years later Warner Bros isn't going to continue in the direction it was going in? Kind of dumb in my opinion.

Sure, Superman Returns was dreadfully boring at points, but if they axed singer and went with the current Man of Steel script that is flying around on the net, I would seem no harm in that.

The series definetely needs a shot in the arm, and another origin story with Lex fucking Luthor as the main villain is going to be nauseating to say the least. Warners simply just can't get this franchise right at all. A dark Superman simply isn't going to work, because Superman isn't dark, there isn't anyting remotely dark about the character. He's called the big blue boyscout for a reason.

Maybe I am in the minority, but I completely enjoyed Superman Returns. Maybe 20-30 minutes could have been cut, but, the same could be said about the original Superman movie as well. I wasn't particularly thrilled with Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane, but, Brandon Routh was a very good updated version of Superman. His Clark Kent had just enough Christopher Reeve in it to tie it in to the original, and I liked the fact that they explored his emotional state about being alone. Maybe it was slow, but Superman Returns wasn't just fluff superhero fare, Bryan Singer tried to add a dimension to the character that wasn't there before, at least on film. I wasn't sure what to make about the kid, but, if he struggles through the movie with being the last of his kind, thinking his love, Lois is with someone else, having him get a happy ending by revealing that he is no longer alone came as a nice way to end the movie, I thought. It was different than the originals, and I can see why some might criticize it for that, but, I appreciated it. I seriously don't think yet another reboot is needed.

I am not sure a Superman/Batman movie would work yet anyway...wait a few years, and just make a damn Justice League movie already...

I don't get all the negativity about Superman Return. It was a Superman film. It might have had boring moments, but it was in keeping with the original two. It's a good film. The problem is that Superman is dated. So unless you reboot it, it won'tget as much love as some of the more intresting comic book characters. But the problem with a reboot of Superman is that it'll then because just a Superman film in name.

But as I'm not a Superman fan I couldn't care less if they turned it into the darkest superhero film of all time. In fact I want tim Burton. The only thing I don't want is Nicolas Cage.

The only two movies that should be made with Superman as the protagonist is The Death and Return of Superman (which they already did as an animated film and totally ruined it) or Red Son. Communist Superman? Brilliant idea but that would probably only appeal to fans of the franchise and people who've ever read the book.

Red son I have actually just started reading about 10 minutes ago so I won't comment on that for the time being.

The death of Superman wouldn't work very well on the big screen..the problem with it is it was ultimately a JLA comic that ended with Superman dying, and the best parts were the funeral with Batman, Green lantern etc. and if you were to do his comeback it would have to bring in Steel, the last son of Krypton, Superboy and the cyborg and the whole comic where he actually came back was quite weird if you read it. That wouldn't work on the big screen. I hope they also don't do another origin story, we all know the origin of Superman, just give it a rest!

Very true, plus you'd have to incorporate the whole history of the Supergirl clone/thing and the Cyborg Superman in about 2 minutes and there's no way
they'd be able to do either character justice as Cyborg Superman is one of Supes more formiddable foes, plus you'd have to have Mongul in there somewhere as well.
Have you seen Superman: Doomsday? They sum up the fight between Supes and Dooms in about 5 minutes and then use NONE of the 4 replacement Supermen, and don't reference ANY of the other JLA members at all. It's kinda weak all in all.
Also, in the book, Batman isn't at the funeral. He's in the collage b4 that chapter but not in the actual chapter itself. If you can find him in the actual text then give me a page ref so i can find him.

As for Red Son. I won't ruin anything, but when you finish, answer this: Did you laugh at Batman in a wooly Russian hat?

When I first heard that they were going to make Superman Returns, I plotted out a trilogy in my head. To this day, I still think it could work as a trilogy very well, so what the hell, I'll just post it here to see what you guys think.

Note: In general, trilogies stick to the rule that the first film is about origins, the second film is about an identity struggle, and the third film is about chaotic war that forces everyone to step up to the plate and "be a man". So keep that in mind here while you're in line for a long, long read haha.

FILM #1: Jor-El on Krypton tells everyone that the planet is doomed, but Brainiac (the "Brain Interactive Construct" artificial intelligence version from the animated series) informs them that he's wrong. Krypton blows up, Kal-El is rocketed to Earth, he grows up with the Kents, starts developing powers, etc. Present day, Kent has just gotten a job at the Daily Planet and meets Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen. Clark is trying to figure out how he could be best suited as a guardian of peace. Meanwhile, Luthor is involved in government contracts for weaponry and he has two main projects that he's working on: Metallo and Parasite, both of whom are being fueled by "foreign substances" (ie, Kryptonian technology, Kryptonite, so forth), and they're the "secret ingredient" that Luthor doesn't want to let anybody know about. Generic action sequence, where people are introduced to Superman...preferably a scenario where he helps Lois. They dub him Superman and he steals Luthor's thunder. Superman starts putting a major dent in the crime in the area, breezing through thugs like nothing. Luthor decides to test out his projects and *some incident takes place*. Lois decides to investigate, which is how she gets into danger later on. So on and so forth, eventually, this leads to Metallo being the enemy that Superman can "toss around" so to speak, with Parasite making him weak, since, you know, strength-theft is a part of his power. In the end, Superman wins, Luthor is locked up, etc. Twist at the end: Brainiac somehow figures out about all this Kryptonian technology, Kryptonite, and Kal-El.

FILM #2: This film essentially deals with Clark's identity, of course. He feels homesick, he struggles with keeping his secret from Lois whom he loves, and on top of that, Brainiac shows up and tries to set up this whole "I can help you learn about Krypton" type of thing. Quite possibly, if you have the time, Clark is tested by Brainiac when he's sent to War World and has to fight off Mongul's people. This would only be one fight scene, though, and it might not be able to work time-wise. Brainiac's main motivation is, as always, to obtain all the information on the planet, upgrade his own program with other technology, and then annihilate the evidence. Luthor tries to work out a deal with Brainiac. Both Luthor and Brainiac are just keeping the temporary deal because they think they can screw the other villain over when they've outlived their usefulness. By the end of the film, the public thinks Superman is just too powerful for his own good, as in the final battle, something terrible happens because of his strength. He feels guilty about it. Luthor is let loose from prison (or pardoned, somehow) and Brainiac is killed...but, anybody that knows this incarnation of Brainiac knows that he lives on in another program somewhere. Clark abandons hope for a relationship between himself and Lois.

FILM #3: Quite simple, Brainiac brings reinforcements...namely, Doomsday. Luthor has to work with Superman to try to take care of the beast. In some way, Luthor helps outsmart Brainiac (not by much, obviously, as that would be overkill for such an intelligent computer) through some sort of "human-only" thought process. This keeps up the parallel between himself and Superman, as Kal-El isn't human. Clark defeats Doomsday but dies in the process. Somehow.....maybe through something Brainiac leaves...maybe through something in the Fortress of Solitude...maybe through Luthor himself, who knows yet as I haven't written the damn thing haha....Clark ends up regenerating and is alive again. He and Lois get together, and all is well in the world with a Superman who now knows without a doubt that the world needs his watchful eyes.

Now, I originally thought of that in about a 4 minute time-span, and this was a while ago, so I forgot a lot of the little details. But yeah, I think its self-explanatory how well it works haha. The only regret is that there's no Darkseid or Bizarro, but hey, I think having five (or six if you can fit Mongul in there) major villains is pretty damn good for keeping up the story and not overloading it for the sake of having more fight scenes. Story is what makes a good film, not "more explosions".
