Super Bowl Sunday is probably the biggest nights in both sports and television in the US. After nearly half a century it has become an institution. Its one of the biggest party days of the year and many treat it like a holiday. I know everyone is accustomed to Super Bowl Sunday and it is an American tradition but wouldnt most people enjoy it more if it were Super Bowl Saturday?
I know a lot of people are going to think its a bad idea because Saturday is a terrible day for television. That may be true for regular network shows but the Super Bowl is certainly big enough to overcome that. People are looking for something to do on a Saturday. Put the Super Bowl on Saturday and thats what theyll do. I doubt moving the Super Bowl to Saturday will cost the network any viewers at all.
For me personally I always enjoy an event or a night out a lot more when I know I dont have to work the next day. I can stay out as late as I want totally carefree knowing I have the next day to sleep in and rest. By the time the Super Bowl is ending its about 10:00 pm eastern time. Most people have to get up early for work the next day so usually by the fourth quarter, which should be the most exciting part of the day, people are looking at their watches and thinking about getting home, especially if kids are involved. Depending on the score the party may end before the game does. Imagine the fourth quarter starting at 9:30 or so and not having to worry about the time. You dont have work the next day and the kids dont have school. You dont care what time the game ends and on the drive home you know you can get into bed and not worry about that alarm clock waking you up in the morning. Even though the Super Bowl is a fun day, it is a long day. Having that extra day off the next day would be refreshing.
Obviously not everyone is off work on a Sunday but I think moving the Super Bowl to Saturday would benefit most people. What do you think?
