Well, I was under the impression that it was 2011. Oh, it is, great. I though I went back in time to 1996. Sting vs. Ric Flair? Wow, what a match, two guys who are way past their prime, yeah awesome. I love seeing two guys who are clearly not the draws or the wrestler they were a decade ago wrestle, yeah I'm pumped.
Well, incase you don't know that last paragraph was sarcasm. It seems to me, since Hogan and Bischoff showed up in little old TNA, it's been all about
nostalgia. First it was "The Band," then it was the EV 2.0, than it was Immortal (2011 version of NWO) now it's Sting vs. the old geeezers. What's Stings next fued with, Scott Steiner? Hell, what's Lex Luger up to these days, I wonder how long until Goldberg shows up in TNA.
Seriously, this is one of the major flaws of TNA, relying too much on nostalgia and old men to sell a PPV. But, it's not like they have anybody to sell it on besides Hogan, Sting, and Flair. Who esle is there in TNA that people know?Kurt Angle, that's probably it. It's all about the men from "the company up north." Soon, TNA is going to realize that they have to rely on their own talent. Angle, RVD, Hogan, Sting, Steiner, Flair and Jerry Lynn aren't getting any younger, and won't be around for another decade (TNA might not either).
Sure, there's Crimson, but thats it. And, to be honest, even though their pushing him like Goldberg with a undefeated streak, it's really not drawing fans in like Goldberg streak was. Gunner pinned the TNA Champion in two weeks straight, now he's just in the background of an Immortal promo.
I really hope that TNA can see through the rose colored glasses from 1998, and realize that maybe they should get their own talent over. Relying on guys from the past will only get you so far, there going to be a time when you have to A) Build up young stars and B) use the veterans to build up the young stars.
So, the next two PPV main events are Sting vs. a 62 year old man who is just going to blade half-way through the match, and run around with his pants hanging off his ass. Than, it'll be Sting vs. a immobile Hulk Hogan, who has said that he can't take a bump anymore. I don't get it, what does this have to prove fro Sting, that he can be guys who are are either too old, or belong is a wheelchair? I hope to God that Hogan turns face before BFG and the match with Sting doesn't happen.
So, there you have it, my rant of old man facing eachother in 2011. Yes, I know I'll get the normal TNA snarky "you don't watch the show, your a WWE fanboy."
