Sting vs Flair

Occasional Pre-Show
Hey, if this has already been created feel free to move it, I just didn't see it anywhere. I was curious about what everybody thinks about the upcoming Sting vs Flair match? Admittedly, both are past their primes, but I'm looking forward to the match. It may be for nostalgia reasons, but I think that the match will still be entertaining. More so than the Sting vs Hogan match that is being rumored. I mean honestly, Sting/Hogan have never put on a good match against each other in my mind, but there are so many classic matches between Sting and Flair. So what does everybody else think about this match coming up? I can't wait for it personally :)

I'm all about it. This thread is likely to be inundated with a slew of whining about the age of the competitors, but Sting/Flair is always entertaining to me. Hell I'd watch Flair and Sting wrestle over who gets the last Jell-O cup in the retirement home sooner than I'd watch a match between <insert generic WWE wrestler here> and <insert generic WWE wrestler here>.

Sting/Flair put on some of the most entertaining matches of all-time, and while this is likely to rank well near the bottom of those, it's still Sting/Flair.

Woo off!

It will be a train wreck.

I am a big Sting fan and a Flair fan... but let's be real. This match is gonna be the shits. Sting is way past it right now with this ******ed Joker bullshit he's doing. Flair is the absolute drizzly shits in the ring.

Unless it's some kind of death match where they use barbedwire and ladders and tables and shit I just don't want to even see it. Sting and Flair utterly and figuratively murdering each other with stupid bumps would be sweet right now.

I'm all for it also. I know out of all their matches, all of which are classics, this will probably be the worst of them, but I still think it will be entertaining. And I think it will be better than most matches (not all) in WWE, but I'm a bigger fan of TNA than WWE.

Almost all of my favorite matches of all-time have been between Sting and Flair:

Clash of the Champions 1 *(note: my all-time favorite match ever)
Clash of the Champions 27
Great American Bash 1990
Starrcade 1989
WCW Saturday Night (live edition)
WCW Monday Nitro (for the "presidency" of WCW)
WCW World War 3 (1995)
the final WCW Monday Nitro

the list goes on....

Though they are not as young as they were in their NWA days and early WCW days, like another poster said, it's still Sting and Flair, so it should be more than worth watching.

I've never seen Sting and Flair wrestle each other before so it show be interesting to see two legends go at it. Even though I'm a little skeptical because Sting hasn't had a really good match in a long while and if I can recall Flairs last match wasn't so great. But I believe if you put these two in a street fight or no dq match you'd be sure to get some great entertainment.

I third on being down for this match. Fuck nostalgia even, I just want this to happen overall.

For one, I do realize it won't be some match that Dave Meltzer gives a five star rating to. Yes, I understand that both men are not what they used to be when they last faced on the final Nitro, and even then they were showing their warriors wounds after the years of battling the machine. And yes, I see that this isn't going to be everyones cup of tea. And if you think this match is going to be less due to their age, well here is a paragraph or two on why you should STFU.

I couldn't care if Ric Flair had to use a walker to come down the ramp, hand his colostamy bag over to the referee, break his hip walking up the steps and bleed after sneezing - because what Ric Flair proved tonight on IW is that he, even with all the pricks that judge his decision to keep doing what he's doing at his age, with a legacy like he has - still the mother fucking man!

You could find only a handful of people to do the amount of segments Flair did tonight and convey everything so perfectly. Everything, from the opening with Sting to the segment with Hogan to the one above in the rafters, what he said, his mannerisms, his expressions were all perfect. He was the most entertaining thing on IW tonight, and what do you watch IW for? Entertainment.

That being said, the reason I'm looking forward to this match is because I want to see Flair in the ring again. I want to see Flair vs. Sting again. Its been a decade and even at their age, they have the history to tell a story in the ring and perform to a calibure which will hopefully shut people up. And if they don't? They don't lose anything anyway. Its like they're doing it for fun.

Ric Flair was the man of IW tonight. Sting's Joker persona is continuing and with Hogan vs. Sting guarenteed for BFG, we know what the result at No Surrender will be. But I'm still up for another meeting between Flair and Sting. Age doesn't matter, not when you're still able to outshine the rest.

This match is pointless. Do we really need to see him fall off the top rope, fall in the middle of the ring, whooo, bleed, and then loose again. Flair should have retired 10 years ago. And seriously, who is Flair to talk about retirement! As much as I do not like Flair, he threw away a great send off when he "retired" at Wrestlemania. Now he has the nerve to say that he can retire Sting when we all know that even if he won Sting would be back on Impact the week. I do not want to see Flair wrestle and I damn sure don't want to see Hogan wrestle again either.

On second thought, maybe I do want to see Hogan just so I can see him paralyzed in the middle of the ring where even his 27th back surgery wont help him. Were not that lucky though.

If you've never seen any of their previous matches, then you should totally Youtube them. Or if you want to see some classic matches in general, just buy the Best of Starrcade, Best of WCW Nitro, The Ric Flair Collection, or Ric Flair and Horsemen collection. I believe all of those have matches between the two, or if not between both of them, then other matches with other people. But definitely should hit up Youtube, they put on great matches everytime they were in the ring together. The post above yours has a great list also.

So, obviously you're a hater of Flair...and near as I can tell a hater of the legends who made wrestling what it is today given your statement about Hogan. I will agree that Flair probably needs to hang it up before too long, BUT, he is still better today in his 60s than over half of the locker room in either TNA or WWE. And there is only a handful of people who are on his level when it comes to talking on the microphone. And furthermore, he is arguably the best wrestler to ever be in the game. Ever. Personally, I can't wait for this match, I think it will be a fairly decent match, not near as good as their previous matches, but still good. I can't wait :)

Honestly I wouldn't mind to see one last Flair vs. Sting match since we haven't seen one in 10 years. I don't know if they will wait until Bound For Glory to have a match, but I wouldn't mind seeing one last bout between the two on PPV. If these two were in WWE and had a semi main event match on a WWE PPV, people would be all for it.

Its not for any championship or anything. These guys aren't what they used to be but are still better at 75% then most greener guys are at 100%. I don't know how they will involve Hogan, but I'm interested for one last bout. We have seen Flair vs. Sting, Hogan vs. Flair, and even Hogan vs. Sting countless times in the past.

Nothing is going to hurt ratings or PPV buys at this stage, especially since you have marquee names like this. If Kevin Nash can have a program with CM Punk at his age, then Flair and Sting having one last match should be do different.

I'm excited for this match. It won't get any match of the year award, but Sting and Flair have put on some of my favorite matches...ever. Plus, Sting is my all time favorite wrestler. Flair, even at his age is still better in the ring than a lot of the current TNA roster and most in the WWE. I know I might be in the minority compared to the rest of the IWC, but I'd rather watch a 2011 Sting/Flair match than have to watch a few of those guys that were featured in the 8 man X Division gauntlet match tonight, who I have never heard of.

I wont be as excited if the the Sting/Hogan match happens (only because I remember their match at Starrcade '97). But Sting vs Flair...I'm excited.

i dont have high hopes for this match but maybe it will be better than i expect...hell as long as ric flair isnt stripped down to his underwear ill be happy :lmao: but i thought this match was happening tonight on impact? but apperently not sense gunner got his ass kicked by sting backstage and thats all their was....but this match cant be worse then sting vs hulk hogan...can it?

Honestly, I don't think Sting and Hogan have ever had a good match with each other. They've had 4 matches if you count the lay down. None of them have been good. But Sting and Flair have put on classic matches, which is why I think this match will be fairly decent. Hell no two wrestlers in the world could possibly be more familiar with each other in the ring than these two.

Well, I was under the impression that it was 2011. Oh, it is, great. I though I went back in time to 1996. Sting vs. Ric Flair? Wow, what a match, two guys who are way past their prime, yeah awesome. I love seeing two guys who are clearly not the draws or the wrestler they were a decade ago wrestle, yeah I'm pumped.

Well, incase you don't know that last paragraph was sarcasm. It seems to me, since Hogan and Bischoff showed up in little old TNA, it's been all about nostalgia. First it was "The Band," then it was the EV 2.0, than it was Immortal (2011 version of NWO) now it's Sting vs. the old geeezers. What's Stings next fued with, Scott Steiner? Hell, what's Lex Luger up to these days, I wonder how long until Goldberg shows up in TNA. :disappointed:

Seriously, this is one of the major flaws of TNA, relying too much on nostalgia and old men to sell a PPV. But, it's not like they have anybody to sell it on besides Hogan, Sting, and Flair. Who esle is there in TNA that people know?Kurt Angle, that's probably it. It's all about the men from "the company up north." Soon, TNA is going to realize that they have to rely on their own talent. Angle, RVD, Hogan, Sting, Steiner, Flair and Jerry Lynn aren't getting any younger, and won't be around for another decade (TNA might not either).

Sure, there's Crimson, but thats it. And, to be honest, even though their pushing him like Goldberg with a undefeated streak, it's really not drawing fans in like Goldberg streak was. Gunner pinned the TNA Champion in two weeks straight, now he's just in the background of an Immortal promo.

I really hope that TNA can see through the rose colored glasses from 1998, and realize that maybe they should get their own talent over. Relying on guys from the past will only get you so far, there going to be a time when you have to A) Build up young stars and B) use the veterans to build up the young stars.

So, the next two PPV main events are Sting vs. a 62 year old man who is just going to blade half-way through the match, and run around with his pants hanging off his ass. Than, it'll be Sting vs. a immobile Hulk Hogan, who has said that he can't take a bump anymore. I don't get it, what does this have to prove fro Sting, that he can be guys who are are either too old, or belong is a wheelchair? I hope to God that Hogan turns face before BFG and the match with Sting doesn't happen.

So, there you have it, my rant of old man facing eachother in 2011. Yes, I know I'll get the normal TNA snarky "you don't watch the show, your a WWE fanboy."

Fans like you are a disgrace to wrestling.

Oh shut up. If Goldberg showed up in WWE, you would be marking out.
Seriously, this is one of the major flaws of TNA, relying too much on nostalgia and old men to sell a PPV.
Really? Because WWE hasn't done the same?

HBK vs. Flair
Undertaker vs. HBK
Undertaker vs. HBK
Undertaker vs. Triple H
Mick Foley wrestling one more match
Kevin Nash returning.

Please, do you want me to embarrass your post further?

It's quite obvious. But of course, you have to be the biggest Mr. Captain Obvious on this forum.

No. there is Crimson, ROBERT ROODE, James Storm, Gunner, Austin Aries, Alex Shelly and Magnus. If you watch Xplosion, you will see why I put Shelly and Magnus as potential main eventers.

I really hope that TNA can see through the rose colored glasses from 1998, and realize that maybe they should get their own talent over. Relying on guys from the past will only get you so far, there going to be a time when you have to A)
Build up young stars and B) use the veterans to build up the young stars.
What the fuck do you think their doing?

Why do you think Kurt Angle wants to take out the young talent? Why do you think he's a heel feuding with a rising star babyface?

Why do you think Sting told Gunner he will make it very far in this business?

Why do you think they just debuted SIX new X-Division wrestlers? FOUR of them have potential to rise within the company.

You just like to hear your own bullshit. But It's certainly okay for a 34 yaer old Cena to go over everyone in the company. It's okay for Kevin Nash to feud with CM Punk. It's okay for Triple H to "hog the spotlight"...It's all okay.

God I hope, you ban yourself from this forum.
So, there you have it, my rant of old man facing eachother in 2011. Yes, I know I'll get the normal TNA snarky "you don't watch the show, your a WWE fanboy."
You watch the show, but bitch about it. Then suggest shit that their already doing.

TNA continues to disappoint me, this has been done to death and there's no reason to resurrect it, it's not going to help sell PPV's or boost ratings, TNA's short term booking and hot shotting is going to be the death of that place.

There is NO need for this, just like there is NO need for Hogan to wrestle Sting. Sting can still go, these other two need to hang up the boots!

This would be the equivalent of a Ultimate Warrior vs Rick Rude match 25 years later in the wwe.... BAD IDEA. TNA is on it's last legs and will do anything it can to bring in viewers. Flair and Sting had classic matches against each other back in the day and it should be left at that. Don't even know why the hell half of TNA is still even wrestling. Don't get me wrong, wwe has its shares of guys that need to hang them up as well, but it's nowhere near as many as TNA. At least with WWE we're only subject to a gimmick battle royal once in a blue moon and they are actually entertaining!

Yay. Everyone coming on here saying Sting vs Flair, old farts need to retire.. it's not the 90s anymore.. blah blah blah.. but I'm sure if Flair, Scott Steiner, Hogan, Kurt Angle all went back to WWE, you all would mark out big time.. but since they're in TNA.. it's a bad thing and if they all did retire and never wrestled ever again.. then everyone would come on and say how much the young guys suck and that they miss these old guys.. i say enjoy the old farts while they're still around because once they're gone.. i know I'll be missing them :)

it's kind of like Nash and Booker T.. everyone hated them in TNA, wanted them to retire.. but oh, once they came back to WWE.. everyone cheered and got huge boners over it.

anyway, Sting vs Flair may not end up being a classic but I'm sure it'll still be enjoyable

Is the match going to be a Handicapped match??? Not a 2-1 deal but a serious Handicapped match.

Can both of them bring their walkers, colostomy bags, nurse aids, all their medications, wheelchairs, hover rounds, Colonial Pen memberships, AAA Memberships, Rogaine, Dentures, Droopy nuts, droopy boobs, cataracts, arthritis, Bi-focals, hearing aids and all the other crap old people have or use and make it a hardcore geriatric match?

I would pay to see that.......... well maybe.

Flair vs. Sting is one match I could watch every week. The reasons are simple. Neither guy is like Hogan so you never know who is going over that night, and they've worked together so long that they have a chemistry that is unmatched in the ring. Sure, neither is in their prime anymore, but with their talents and knowledge they can still put a match together better than most.

Two folk who between them are 114... Yea I can't wait! I definitely need to see Flair without his top on again flopping around like a fish while he bleeds like a stuck pig. Stings in ring ability is getting more and more limited every week while Flair's been limited for the last 5 years.

I'm sure the two have enough talent to throw together a decent match I just don't really care about it. If I hear that Flair's wrestling topless I'll definitely be staying away.

lol to everybody saying that fans are hating on tna. every week they pushing the old wrestlers in the main event while the tna originals not getting any shine.the resson why fans criticize tna is because tna is not using the old wrestlers to help build storylines(even though they are horrible) or the tna originals . if y'all dumbasses watch wwe you would see that they are using nash to build cm punk & the storyline.the last thing i gotta say is u cant compare hogan & sting to taker & hbk given that people wasn't forced that bullshit, the fans wanted it smh to y'all dumbasses~Hero
