With his good pal The Human Torch extinguished, Spider-Man is joining the Fantastic Four.

In the wake of last month's death of the Fantastic Four mainstay, Marvel Comics is filling the void on the First Family of Comics with its most popular super hero as the publisher reboots the team next month.

"Spidey has a long standing relationship with the Fantastic Four that we've seen over the years and he was Johnny Storm's closest superhero friend or bitterest superhero rival -- depending on what day of the week it happened to be," says Tom Brevoort, Marvel's senior vice president of publishing.

It'll be a full plate for the Wall Crawler who is also a full-time member of another super group, The Avengers.

The new-look team - literally, with Spider-Man, Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman and The Thing all boasting futuristic new white costumes - debuts in comic stores on March 23 with FF #1, by writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Steve Epting.

And if comic book fans still reeling over the death of Johnny Storm last month didn't have enough to get used to, the team is no longer calling itself the Fantastic Four, but the Future Foundation.

Considering the Fantastic Four have long been the most stable team in comics since their debut in 1961, it's been a tumultuous couple of months.

"It will stop fans for taking the Fantastic Four for granted," says Brevoort. "It was comfortable. People liked it but drifted away from the book, so we're doing something that changes things up.

"The Human Torch never had so many vocal fans as the day we killed him. The fans didn't realize their depths of their passion."

So first they kill off Torch, who was the best character out of the FF, then they add Spidey to fill his spot, but oh wait the changes don't stop there now they are going to change the name of the group to "The Future Foundation"?, and changing the suits so to those white and black eyesores, could this possibly get anymore ******ed?

I disapprove. Spidey goes solo. True, he's been in his fair share of team-ups in the past, but Spider-Man works best and is most entertaining when he's on his own.

What really confuses me is that why would they stick a guy with a secret identity on a team made up of public identities? Everyone knows Reed Richards is Mr. Fantastic, Susan Richards is the Invisible Woman, and Ben Grimm is Thing, so how is Spider-Man going to cope with being a secret identity.

I also don't like those white outfits. Classic blue or gtfo.

Oh jeez, it's not like they've never killed off members and had replacements and name changes before. Year and a half tops before they revert back to FF Classic.

Marvel simply don't care what the fans think anymore. They want Spidey to be a part of the Fantastic Four because they want the character to be de-aged and if they can have Spidey fill the Johnny Storm role as the smart-ass youngster, then they think that the Joe Quesada version of Spider-Man post OMD will be more widely accepted by the fans. It's going to fall apart faster than Marvel's sales. This is going to suck...Big Time (fans of Spidey might get that last reference).

One More Day and Brand New Day.

But Spidey has been a part of the FF before, but this is absolutely ******ed

This has definitely changed my mind. I was thinking of getting into a new version of FF, but this is completely ridiculous. Sorry Marvel, you lost my money!

It's not like any of you have actually been reading Fantastic Four, is it? About three people on the planet do. If you had, you'd be appreciative of Hickman's run on the book and have confidence in his changes to the title. I'm on board.

It's been many a year since I've collected. I've missed so many story arcs, it'd take me until I was in the grave to catch up I'd wager. Hell, last thing I think I remember shaking up the FF was when they had the two issue New Fantastic Four with Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, Wolverine, and the Hulk. (Damn, I'm old.)

I don't like the new look, though. Could've just tweaked the old ones instead of going full blown whiter than Sheamus' complexion. Who wears white anyway when you're fighting and getting plowed through buildings and such? It'd be dirty in 3 min. tops.

Quick question, but haven't they killed off Johnny Storm before? Like somebody said, it's Marvel, he'll be back. If I remember correctly, they killed off Aunt May and brought her back before, for Pete's (pun intended) sake.

Aunt May was killed and brought back within, like, a week. Peter made a deal with the actual devil - or the Marvel equivalent. He had to sacrifice his marriage with Mary Jane. Now that's ******ed.

Holy crap. I knew I'd heard about it, but didn't know the story of what happened. Good God. Spider-Man going to Mephisto and sacrificing his marriage. I'll bet he found a way around it and is back w/her already, too.

Joe Quesada is a moron. Plain and simple. He alienated the core Marvel fanbase through OMD (The Deal with the Devil) and a bunch of other bone-head moves.

And no he isn't Hitman. Joe Quesada HATED the marriage and made certain that it doesn't come back on his or any of his cronies watches.

Anyone was welcome after the hell that was Bob Harrass. In fact Joey Q did a pretty good job up until he started turing the Marvel characters back into there 'classic' versions. He doesn't grasp the concept that characters NEED to grow or they become stale.

Spiderman hasn't been good in about two decades. The Fantastic Four probably three decades. Marvel is just one giant clusterfuck, and it's a shame.

JMS seems to be quite a variable writer. What I can say was that his run on Thor was awesome; particularly Thor tearing Iron Man a new ******** in flood-damaged New Orleans:

I can't understand the obsession with Marvel to reboot every damn series each decade.

Maybe its just me, but I actually like Spidey's outfit. The rest can go to hell.

And weren't they trying to turn Spider Man into a hardass? I remember hearing a bunch of nerds upstanding gentleman talking about how he had been threatening to kill people and they wouldn't believe it till he actually did it.

And how did the Torch die? :suspic:
