Speculate about WWE's TBA June PPV

Mustang Sally <3
WWE has scheduled a PPV in Chicago for the 16 June, the name of which has yet to be announced.

Last year the June PPV was the certifiably below-average and generally forgettable No Way Out. WWE usually vary at least one PPV event per year, such previous examples include Capitol Punishment, Fatal 4-Way, and Breaking Point, all of which were one-offs.

With 2013's June event being a blank slate, I want to discuss the probability of either an older gimmick PPV returning, or whether WWE will invent a completely new one.

June, of course, used to be the month of the King of the Ring tournament, and 2013 will mark the 20th anniversary of the first tournament held on PPV, so there's an idea to go to. King of the Ring has always been one of my favourite events and I'd like to see it come back for one more run, as there are plenty of upcoming stars who could benefit greatly from the prestige of winning the tournament: King Daniel? King Seth? King Wade? King Big E? King Ryback? Buckets of potential if given to the right person.

Then again, WWE could try and attempt something new and novel. One important thing to remember is the location of the PPV: Chicago. So you just know off the bat that CM Punk will feature to quite a big extent.

The king of the ring would be a nice idea and since it is it probley won't happen lol, how ever a ppv centered around cm punk is a good chance did punk resign for a one year deal? That could be his last ppv match maby

A guy like Ryback, Barrett, Sandow or Rhodes could benefit greatly from King of the Ring. Would love to see the one night return of it, so much better than the weekly tournament.

Most speculated is Bash at the Beach, which is a very slim possibility. I wouldn't understand the thought process behind having a Summerslam pay-per-view and a Bash at the Beach pay-per-view. Not saying it won't happen because this is WWE and Vinnie Mac and he'll alter the seasons of the year if he has to, just sayin' I wouldn't personally like it.

If someone says War Games I hope their dick gets bitten off by a Lion. We have the Elimination Chamber, War Games is in the past, leave it there. Bad Blood could be an option. Of course there'll be the few fans who'll cream their pants cause the name features the word "blood" but it's of course a phrase used to describe a heated rivalry.

If they choose King of the Ring, fine by me. It never felt right holding it on Raw anyway.

I really enjoy this idea. King of the ring is a big event and can really set forward a superstar into a big push. The only real disappointment in King of the Ring may be William Regal but he still had a decent run.

I did make a thread about the King of the Ring concept a few months back and would really enjoy seeing it back! Especially as a PPV as it deserved a bigger stage than just a Raw. It should have more significance like The Royal Rumble and Money in the Bank. And since its in Chicago I could easily see CM Punk winning it, but don't count out a few curveballs if it was to take place.

Completely not related to the subject at hand but wouldn't it be funny if it was Bash at the Beach and that's when Vinnie Mac decides to the switch with Cena? It'd pretty stupid but I'd lose my mind laughing.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the KOTR returning as a PPV concept. The thought of seeing the same wrestlers OVER AND OVER on the same PPV doesn't appeal to me. The gimmick of KOTR can still work, just not in one night. Personally I prefer it airing over many many weeks as I feel the gimmick of being king can still go over without taking up so much time on a PPV. They can have the FINALS at the June PPV but I wouldn't want to see the entire tournament there.

With that said, as far as what I'd like to see be the June PPV, with Chicago being viewed as a truly American City, why not bring back the Great American Bash ppv. I felt the Smackdown reincarnation last year was HORRIBLE. It doesn't have to be all about "Americans" , it can just be a bash in a great American city. Plus I always loved the name.

If King of the Ring did happen in Chicago, Daniel Bryan would win it. He's had unbelievable success at his first three Chicago PPVs: defeating The Miz to win his first ever WWE championship in 2010, winning Money in the Bank in 2011, and having his best match of 2012 (in my opinion) at Extreme Rules last year. When Daniel Bryan's DVD comes out, I think 25% of the matches will be matches that happened in Chicago. He has stolen the show at 2 out of the 3 PPVs and the only match that stopped him from stealing the show in 2011 was a five-star classic. His match was only ****3/4. So if it is KOTR, I expect another great night by Daniel Bryan.

I would love to see the KOTR return, and I would like to se Daniel Bryan win it. This would be the perfect way to get him back into the main event, and add another title to his credentials. I always loved tournaments, and the KOTR was best when the winner had to win 3 matches in one night. I think a great final would be Daniel Bryan, and maybe a stron losing effort by Damien Sandow. This has always been a ppv I have wanted to see return.

It'll probably be something dumb like a type of a social media vote to determine what the name of the one off event will be.

regardless of what it is, CM Punk will hugely dominant in promotion and in the main event.
WWE have left it BLANK for a reason,
KOTR would be goodm maybe if they slash 4 or 5 ppvs and go back to having just the big 4 plus Kotr

I don't think daniel bryan needs anything to get back in the main event. He is a bonifide main eventer at this point. He is right below the john cena and punk level, but still above the sheamus and big show level.

From WWE.com

WWE is proud to present live on June 14th 8/7 CT from Chicago's AllState Arena the June 2013 PPV Father's Day! Come see the superstars take on the bastard children they have left behind from the US and around the globe in a variety of matches. Announced matches already include*:

- paternity test on a pole match
- dead beat dad with chair match
- HHH vs. Shane McMahon with the power of the WWE on the line but more importantly Vince's love
- Dominic vs. Rey Mysterio for the right to change his last name to Guerrero
- Ted Dibiase Sr. 5 minute bitch slap fest of Jr.
- CM Punk tries to win the respect of his father by competing in a drinking contest, special guest referee Chris Jericho

And in the main event
- John Cena takes on 82% of his fans who also happen to be children from women he knocked up in almost every city in America and across the globe.

*card subject to change

This is going to do at least 750,000 buys. Can't wait!

I really hope they do not name the PPV "Trend"setters, Triple Threat, Gauntlet or Lumberjack Fiesta.:banghead:

Back to the OP, they could bring back either Backlash or King of the Ring (like many others have suggested). Either way, it should have compelling storyline development and quality wrestling(or In-Ring action).

I know that it's June, which would put this PPV out of its original month, but with all things considered I would say that if WWE were to go with Cyber Sunday it would be a great idea. I really liked the original ones where all matches were determined by votes, or at least easier to believe they were. How else do you think getting Benoit & Edge as a tag team would've worked... a tag team, might I add, that became the eventual start of the Rated R era.

Or in 2008 when Miz was voted in to face CM Punk for the ECW Championship and the two of them had the absolute greatest match of the night. I still go back and watch that match, continuously thinking to myself about how far they've come as both characters and where they stand in the company. I think giving fans a chance to control one PPV a year is all you need to start turning things around.

Maybe they have an idea of keeping the name of the pay per view a secret until a month or two before the event, as to reveal the big return of the king of the ring pay per view. They will make a big blow up promotion about its legacy and return in the month or two leading up to it to capitalis£ on our nostalgia

However unlikely it may be I would absolutely love to see CM Punk still as WWE Champion on the 6/16, where, by my calculations he would have been WWE Champion for 575 days. The PPV could be 'Punkiversary' or something along those lines, CM Punk celebrating his reign as WWE Champion in his hometown. It would be an absolutely massive draw and could lead to the unveiling of a new WWE Championship belt, courtesy of CM Punk.

This could also be the moment when Punk retires, although I highly doubt it.

Matches would obviously have to be wrestled but I think Punk will dictate what they are, using Tyson Kidd, Daniel Bryan and other people mentioned in Pipe Bomb on last week's (1/7) Raw, in the matches. He could also have all the 'Internet Sweet-Hearts' (aka The Indie Guys) and place them all in dream matches and title matches, finally receiving recognition in WWE.

I know that there is hardly any chance of this happening but it would be truly awesome.

I hope that this show does end up with some type of theme to set it apart from the rest of the shows. No Way Out last year was horrible. Part of the reason I do not mind the gimmicked shows is the fact that we know what to expect going into them. Hell In a Cell in October you KNOW you're getting Hell In a Cell matches so that can help you decide ahead of time whether or not to purchase the show. Back when we had the generic shows, none of them stood out amongst each other. No Mercy, Unforgiven, and all of those PPV brands were interchangeable and I hated that about them. Why waste money on those when you can just wait for the Big Four?

The simplest solution would be to move Over The Limit to June. Why in the world did they move it to October? Does WWE not understand that we do not need two shows in that month? Who is going to order Over The Limit when they know that Hell In a Cell is coming up soon after or with Night of Champions being right before it? One show per month is enough, with the Wrestlemania build taking up two months as opposed to one. I can easily see Over The Limit being the least purchased show of the year when taking a look at the PPV events calendar for an early prediction right now.

That rant aside.... They have plenty of older gimmicks they could try bringing back. Bragging Rights can still work if they go the route of the championship tiers facing each other and if the trophy at the end actually meant something, a title shot for the guy who gets the winning pin would be a good route. King of the Ring has been suggested and I would not be against that. What about bringing back The Great American Bash, the red/white/blue themed one not the boring generic version from its last couple of years. They could put that in July and move Money In the Bank to June. Hell, they could even bring back Breaking Point. That show was awful but it least it had a theme to it. Anything is better than some generic show that does not have anything to make it stand out to the others.

I would love king of ring to return as it was a great way to build up a superstar & back in 2002, Lesnar won and got the right to fight champ at summerslam.

That's what I would love to see again as it leads to get build up to Summerslam.

I'm also hoping it will be heavily linked to CM Punk since it's in Punks home town. Perhaps that's the plan but if they reveal it now it they might spoil the wrestlemania season.

Imagine June PPV is named after Punk with Punk still being champ.

Now it seems pretty much dream booking but what if:

-Punk retains against Rock (shield interference)

-WM 29, defeats Cena & Rock (or I would love to see streak vs streak and punk still win).

Next night on Raw says he deserves respect for last night & is told June PPV will be named, ".....", then the glass breaks, Austin appears and we get Punk vs Austin WM30 in Texas!

Lol fantasy booking over but Im actually 50/50 certain we will see Punk PPV or King of The Ring return and I'm even more pleased that it's going to on my birthday lol

King of the Ring is a popular and great shout in my opinion. I like the one-night format and it could really elevate a guy out of the mid-card. Or even re-elevate a guy like Bryan (I'm not saying he's not over but he wouldn't be considered a threat to say Sheamus at this point - kayfabe of course).

I hope WWE doesn't do another ECW One Night Stand or a WCW: Starrcade tribute show.

Whenever there’s a “WWE PPV TBA”, I always hope for King Of The Ring, Night Of Champions, and Bragging Rights. In this case I’ll go with King Of The Ring, because Night Of Champions is already scheduled and Bragging Rights is as dated now as having the return of Invasion featuring the SuperStars of WCW and ECW (imagine that in 2013).

If the King Of The Ring were to return to it’s rightful place on PPV, and if the WWE expects fans to pay per view, than I’ll suggest what I’ve suggested before, have a Tournament Of Champions to crown the next WWE King Of The Ring.

Match 1
WWE Six-Man Tag Team Championship match
The Shield vs. 3MB

Match 2
The WWE Intercontinental Champion vs. ½ of the Unified WWE World Tag Team Champions

Match 3
The WWE United States Champion vs. ½ of the Unified WWE World Tag Team Champions

Match 4
Million Dollar / Internet Championship Unification match
Ted DiBiase vs. Zack Ryder

Match 5
The Winner of match 2 vs. the WWE Champion

Match 6
The Winner of match 3 vs. the World Champion

Match 7
Divas Championship match

Match 8
The Winner of match 5 vs. The Winner of match 6

Let’s have Dolph Ziggler cash in too in June.

You don't know what they will name it because they don't know it yet. It will probably be a phrase or a tagline Punk will be using.

I know it is obvious but King Of the Ring would be perfect. It would allow maybe 4/5 great matches in one night and can be the catalyst for feuds. There are several guys who could win it and use the honor to push their career to the next level. Rhodes, Sandow and Barrett are the obvious choices.

Although, this would be great I can see there being a social media ppv. Something stupid like the wrestler trending just before the main-event faces the World champ for the belt. Sounds stupid but I can see something like that happening.
