Again, LOOSE influence. Outside of the gym quest, the plot of the anime is entirely its own. You can't use one as a point for the other, especially for one of the older games.
Like people have been saying, the remakes blow the originals out of the water. Since they aren't the choice here, Sonic 2 wins.

Say whatever you want but the Pokemon franchise is overall much popular than the Sonic franchise. If I had to pick a game to mount a strong opposition to OOT I would pick Pokemon GS over Sonic 2. Don't you get it from the fact that GS has been seeded much higher than Sonic 2? If I am not wrong the seedings are a result of our lists sent to Lee before the tourney started and that proves that Pokemon GS is much more popular than Sonic.

It's Pokemon G/S vs. Sonic 2. G/S wasn't one of the better games of the Pokemon series, while Sonic 2 was one of the better games of its series. If we're going to have a proper match here, it should be Pokemon R/B/Y vs. Sonic 2.
Not really. The old Pokemon games were buggy and unbalanced as hell, and again, the remakes improved on them immensely.
Sonic 2 would still win.

I think it would still be a better argument. The old ones certainly had their flaws, but there was a certain charm to them (in my opinion, anyway). You could say the same for Ocarina of Time, or something like that.

I understand that but still Pokemon G/S is much more popular than Sonic regardless of which one is the more popular game. Ultimately it is the overall popularity of the franchise that has contributed to this. That is why I am saying that a Pokemon game has a better chance of taking out OOT than a Sonic game. Simply because Pokemon is the more recognizable of the two.
And I found G/S more entertaining than RBY because of the extended storylines, breeding, concept of night and day etc. G/S was certainly the most impactful game in the franchise because of all the new features it introduced and because those features were the ones that were used for the later Pokemon games. The later Pokemon games also did not innovate much new stuff themselves. That is, until Pokemon Black and White came along.
