So what was the point of the NAO reunion??

NegativeFeedback

Mid-Card Championship Winner
The New Age Outlaws came back and turned heel, sort of aligning themselves with the Authority. But after that, their alliance with the Authority was never mentioned again. They beat the Brotherhood for the tag titles, and then lost em to the Usos a month later. What was the point of all that? If WWE wanted transitional champions, they could've done a lot better than NAO. The Real Americans would have been great transitional champs leading into their split. Instead, we got NAO, who had subpar matches and took up spots on the card that younger guys would've benefited from.

Anyway, what do you guys think? Was it supposed to be some sort of last hoorah for Triple H's buddies, or was there something deeper planned that was nixed at the last minute? Comment below.

Fans ask for those nostalgic moments, get said moments, and once that bit of flair is over then we ask ourselves what the point of all of it was.

It's because the NAO are a recognized tag team from decades past, and was a nice change of pace for the division.

Simple,it was indeed a nice change of pace to see the NAO win the tag team titles. There one of the best teams of all time, and a major staple in the attitude era with DX. There run wasn't meant for a long term it was just for nostalgia reasons..

I see nothing wrong with that at all. There in amazing shape for someone of their age,and they wouldn't have won the tag titles at Royal Rumble,if they were just some slouch team. Dropping the titles now rather than at WM,is Best for Business IMO. The NAO didn't deserve to lose at WM dropping the titles, there too respected for that..

I would have loved to see them walk to the ring as tag champs one last time at Wrestlemania. Give the Usos their grand victory on the biggest stage. I was quite surprised at the NAO's loss tonight, but I've enjoyed their reign. They broke a record regarding length between championships, and that was awesome. To answer the OP's question, I truly have to believe it was a recently decided change of plans. Now what happens to the tag titles at WM? Do you toss another team at the Usos and hope for some chemistry to spark on the way to the PPV? Or do you end up with a cluster of a multi-team match at WM between all of the teams that recently have been in the tag title picture?

This may be completely irrelevant, but out of curiosity I looked up NAO formation on YouTube and road dogg was talking about how he and billy had been "nothing but curtain jerkers" and asked him if he liked laying down week after week.
With all the talk of dolph ziggler and the miz forming a tag team based on similar circumstances to NAO, is this possibly the next step for road dogg and billy Gunn? Maybe an onscreen mentoring role or simply a rivalry. As was stated NAO returned by alligning themselves with the Authority who would be seen as "the man" keeping Ziggler and Miz down.
I don't know, like I said it's probably irrelevant.

in my mind, it was just to solidify HHH's stance as a heel without him really getting physical. It lets HHH stay in more of a diplomatic role, unlike what he did tonight against Bryan, by letting people known to be his friends do the dirty work. They cover just about every area with the NAO in tag team, Orton as champ, Batista working the mid card guys until WM, Steph messing with the Divas and Kane...being Kane. Just keeping the authority angle in your face no matter what is going on.

I don't think their run is over. I think Monday's loss was just a way to get more people to get WWE Network to watch Main Event.

I wouldn't be surprised if they win the titles match, just so people can tune into RAW/Smackdown to see what happens next with the titles.

Well back when Punk was supposed to fight HHH at Mania, they were going with the conspiracy angle because of the DX connection. When that fell through, they were something to keep The Rhodes Bros. and Usos busy.

It was transitional in the fact they didn't want the Usos to beat another face team. So put it on the Outlaws who are like stooges now for Hunter. Then give to the Usos. It was a smart move and was great seeing Roadog and Gunn again.

yo man i completely agree with you. something else should have been done. lots of other options. don't get me wrong i grew up watching the attitude era i know all about the new age outlaws (though i don't think NEW apply s to them any more) but shits changed, you gotta roll with the new. they have been trying to roll with new tag teams lately but they just haven't pushed them enough. when it comes down to it, congrats to the USOS!!! great tag team for realz. keep it up boyz.

they use this plan for chicago crowd. usos may be drop the title tomorrow live main event to NAO.

I could see it. They could have easily waited until Wrestlemania to cash in their rematch clause since there's already been matches announced for the pay per view already.

I think it was just to add fuel to the fire in the Punk/HHH feud. I wouldn't be surprised if the original plan for them to drop the titles would have been because of interference/distraction by Punk. Then when the Punk/HHH match at Mania went south for obvious reasons, WWE was just stuck with NAO as champs and without Punk, there was no point in NAO continuing to align themselves with The Authority. Then they decided to wing it for the past 2 months. What they do with them now (if they don't regain the titles at Main Event) is up in the air now probably. Maybe they have a special type of match (Dumpster Match?) against The Usos at Mania for the titles and then they're back to just working backstage.

I'm glad the Usos finally got the Gold. They've been a really good team for a while now. I'm thinking they do some sort of tagteam gauntlet/turmoil match at WM 30. They have Usos, New Age Outlaws, Miz/Ziggler, 3MB, Khali & Santino, R-Truth & Woods, Fandango & Brodus. Maybe bring back Too Cool, The Headbangers, etc. I'm hoping. I'm not sure that's what we'll get, but here's hoping creative comes up w/something good.

There's an even simpler explanation than that... HHH and WWE just wanted to sell some more DX merchandise, and I have feeling that NAO were itching to get back in the ring. Now, I'm not sure about anyone else but I love seeing them back in the WWE. They're veterans, possibly one of the best tag teams since the early 90s to today. They also proved that just because they're not 5 foot Shit and weigh about as much as a stack of coins, they can still get over and be entertaining.

I think this pretty much sums it all up. When I look at what happened last night, I saw one of the most celebrated tag teams in WWE history put over a young, energetic babyface tag team to win their first gold in WWE for a big moment in front of a hot crowd. For me, it's the perfect use of a much older, veteran tag team that's still able to get it done and aren't gonna be around for too long. The New Age Outlaws are still a viable tag team. They're older, but Road Dogg's as charismatic on the mic as he always was, both of them are still in good physical condition and they can still put on entertaining matches. It's almost a certainty they'll be gone after WrestleMania; so why not use that star power to elevate younger talent?

Its been a long time coming for The Usos. They have worked really hard and delivered a lot over the past few years to be able to get where they are today. And winning the titles from the 6-time WWE/World Tag Team champions gives them much more credibility than winning it from another team, say the Real Americans, would have. Similarly, New Age Outlaws are an accomplished team, so losing to them didn't make Cody Rhodes and Goldust look weak, and they can still be considered to be on the same level as The Usos. In these aspect, this brief stint by the NAO has benefited both teams at a time when everyone is talking about The Shield and the Wyatt Family, whom the majority of the focus is on.

This. A bajillion times this.

How many more matches between the Usos and Rybaxel did you want to see? They split up the Real Americans. They split up the PTP. The Shield and the Wyatt's are too good for the Tag Titles. Who the hell was left? You saw at Raw 1000 or Raw 20th Anniv. or Old School Raw that Billy and the Dogg can still go. So they let them go. It was great. I attended the Rumble this year and if you told me 2 years ago I would attend a Royal Rumble and witness the Outlaws win the Tag Titles, I would have called bullshit but been as giddy as a schoolgirl to see it.

Obviously they were also going to be Triple H's henchmen until the whole CM Punk thing happened. So they ran with being the old Outlaws for a month. If you didn't like it, you lie. They were also the most legitimate tag team we had seen in a long long time. Just sit back and enjoy it rather than question everything.

I think the nao will help the usos solidify themselves as a great tag team going forward. The wwe needed a little bit of focus on their tag team division and bringing in a repspected team like the nao got me paying more attention at least. There are fans (such as myself) who really love nostalgia and enjoy some of the older wrestlers. I would have liked to see the usos win at mania though, I think it would have been a bigger win for them going forward. They are pretty fun to watch though.

I was pretty disappointed. I'm a huge NAO fan and think they are the greatest tag team of all time. I love the intro, and since I'm going to WMXXX, one of the things I was looking forward to was yelling their intro with The Road Dogg Jess James and The Bad Ass Billy Gunn... I think this was the plan, but they changed it to appease a smarky Chicago crowd.

I think the point is obvious....its WWE Network. Here me out....with the Network you have access to the attitude era and all its stars right? so find a few that work for the WWE put them back out there so fans can say " oh yeah and remember them" then you can mention the vast library and how on the network you can relive the past and seeing NAO gives fans an example of what they can look for.

1) The New Age Outlaws are still pretty awesome. Road Dogg never lost a step on the mic. They're a team built on their entrance shtick and it was still a hell of a lot of fun to watch, and for a new generation to get to experience.
2) They made a good transitional team. With the WWE clearly interested in breaking up many of its heel tag teams - as they're splitting O'Neil/Young, the Real Americans are in shambles, the Shield is breaking apart - they needed someone to move the belts over from the Brotherhood to the Usos. Moreover, the Outlaws were likely to draw way more heat than any other heel tag team right now. The Prime Time Players were never great, Cesaro is clearly becoming a face, the Shield are at best tweeners right now and frankly turned face during their match with the Wyatts if we're all being honest with ourselves. The Outlaws can get good old normal heat and also the extra little bit of heat from being "part-timers" which is a thing now but whatever. They got to tack on a little bit of the same heat Batista was getting as well as a rub from the Authority. Ultimately, they got the heat, the wrestled good matches, and they accomplished their ultimate goal - put the Usos over hard.

Would you have been this into the Usos being tag team champions had they won the belts three months ago? Your answer is probably no. That was the point.

I think it was something as simple as HHH wanting to make the tag team division more pronounced. He needed a way to jump start it. So what better way to do it than to bring in his friends who can still go in the ring. The NOA has put on some good matches so far and it's not like they've been burying tag teams. If anything, they've made teams like the Usos relevant.

The tag team division has never been better than it has now over the past several years.

closet_fan hit it on the head. The Usos have been struggling to become relevant and none of the teams currently on the roster had the legacy to push them to the next level. The New Age Outlaws are one of the top tag teams in history and beating them for the titles means more than beating anyone else would have. The fact that it all tied into everything else that was going on is just icing on the cake.

Plus, seeing the entrance again was totally worth it.

NAO returns they join the Authority betray Punk and as a reward they get tag team championship. Or the truth, they get to return to put some money in their pocket and since they are Triple H's old crew he set it up. Whatever the reason, storyline or reality, they were a name from a huge era, but they were a lot older and not really necessary. Goldust wasn't necessary either but his storyline was done far better.

There were at least two teams, the Shield or the Wyatts, if either lost the titles to Usos, that match would have been as good if not better than the Usos beating the NAO. While I found the NAO unnecessary, what's done is done. They had the belts, they did ok in their run. The Usos deserved to be champs, they've been patient and waited for a long time but the thing is the timing was off. Now wasn't the time for the Usos to win the belts. Have the NAO earn a WM XXX payday and the Usos gain some momentum and let them face each other at the big event. They should have done a TLC match at WM XXX with three or four teams and have the Usos win there.
