It's not worth it. I went to Leeds last year, and it takes about two hours, it'll take you 25 minutes to fly, 40 minutes to get through the airport and at least 40 mins to get from the airport to Central, plus however long it takes to Leeds Airport, not worth it in my eyes.

As for the passport, it depends on the airline. Bmi didn't ask for mine when I went to Edinburgh, but Easyjet and Ryanair won't let you fly without a passport, and you won't get through customs at most airports without one.

depends when youre going, train is pretty pricey. Megabus is the cheapest

If you've got a rail card, it's about £50, without one, it'll be £80 odd. A flight would probably be at least that in the school holidays/weekend, and even if it was less, your looking at at least £10 to get from the airport to the city.
