Skinny vs. Fatty

Y 2 Jake

Slightly Autistic
Skinny people must get it a lot harder than all of those fat people, they really must. While people would call you cruel if you said to a fatty ''You're fat'', it's more than acceptable to comment of somebody being underweight. Yet it's almost the same thing. If I saw somebody who was fat, and pointed it out to them. I'd be more of a bad guy than if I pointed out that somebody was skinny. Why is that?

That's a good question. I'm fat, I don't care. People noticed that a long time ago and stopped calling me fat. Maybe because it is wdely thought of that skiiny people fit in better than fat people do. Also, people see skinny celebrities, not fat celebrities, and so people look up to skinny people, so people like to be skinny and its a compliment to call someone skinny. However, for some reason people think being fat is bad, so its cruel to call someone fat. So since being fat is bad, calling somebody fat is bad. Or at least this is the general view.

Well, calling someone skinny is widely known as a compliment. There's nothing wrong with saying to someone "you're really fit" or "you've got a great head of hair" or something. Calling someone fat, as pointed out, is making reference to a flaw. I don't think there's really any debate about that. But it brings up an alternative: anorexic people. Being too overweight is virtually the same thing as being dangerously underweight, health-wise. Both can cause many problems and both could be the direct result of more psychological issues (ala, "I eat because I'm unhappy" vs. "I'm unhappy with my appearance, so I starve myself"). What's weird though is that people get made fun of (teased) for being fat, but nobody really TEASES anorexic-looking people. There aren't any rhyming insults or whatever to go with that weight lol.

But, yeah...I don't see calling someone "skinny" as anything bad at all unless you classify it as "too skinny" - and even then, it could just be your distorted opinion. I've met some viciously obese people that say someone is "too skinny" because they can't see rolls of fat on the person and then of course there are those people that think anorexics aren't skinny enough. In the general scheme of things, though, being skinny is a baseline for people to be average in both health and attractiveness, so calling them such is more of a compliment, while being called fat is never anything but a negative observation.

Calling somebody skinny isn't a complement. If you wanted to comment on somebody looking small you'd probably tell them they look slim, or use another term. Skinny suggests underweight, which is just the same as saying somebody is overweight. Just on a different end of the scale.

Everyone I know would rather be called skinny than fat. Skinny is seen as a compliment, fat is seen as an insult, because skinny is what most people (girls mostly) aspire to be. I doubt there's many people who sit at home thinking being fat is a wish of theirs.

I think the problem with fat is that there are very few euphemisms to call fat people, so it is quite an easy insult to throw at them. With thin people, you can call them slender or even thin and it is a good thing.

However, being thin myself, I do think a lot of thin males would rather be a lot bigger than they are, I include myself in this, I am a naturally thin person, I eat well enough and I do enough excercise. I would rather bulk up though, I don't see it as an insult to be small, but it is certainly something I would like to change.

Another differentiation I am drawing is that a lot of the time it actually takes a lot of work to be thin (some people are naturally thin and fat of course), and to look healthily thin of course (crash dieting just makes people look really unhealthy). Fat people tend to get there by doing little work and compulsively eating junk food or not excercising enough, I eat a lot of junk some days, but I make sure that I do some excercise in the day just to burn a bit off.

However, I know quite a few overweight people and it does not really get brought up around them in arguments and stuff, maybe we exaggerate how bad it is to be fat at times, although I guess it all depends on the type of person you are. I also find that fat people are often limited in things that they can do, a prime example being sports, they can't last as long as most thin people or even in hot weather it can get a little too tiring for them, I'm not sure there are many things thin people can't do that fat people can do physically.

I think that fat people would have it worse than skinny people because no matter what gender you are, being called fat is bad but if you were a female and skinny, if someone was to call you skinny, it would be a sort of compliment, possibly to some guys aswell if that's the look they are going for, but there are a lot of skinny males who wish they were bigger so I think fat people have it worse in that way.

I don't take much offense when people call me skinny, or small or anything like that because that's how I am, I'm happy with who I am.

I think skinny is more of a compliment to a girl than to a boy. I mean most girls would liked to be called skinny and it would make them feel good about themselves, whereas if you called them fat it may hurt their self esteem. I don't think guys like being called skinny and it's more of an insult if you call a guy skinny than a compliment. Most guys probably wouldn't want to be skinny, since it sounds "weaker" in a sence. THey would prefer being called muscualar or fit rather than skinny.

The modern age is all about appearance. Girls especially, strive to look the best they can possibly be. Gone are the days of couples marrying because of similar personalities, as now the first priority girls and guys want in their partner, is good looks and a sexy appearance. This does NOT apply to everyone as there are many couples that are together simple based on the fact that they like each others personalities. But a majority prefer good looks rather than a good personality.

Appearance also includes the sexiest and thinest bodies. Some people go to great lengths to look great, e.g: plastic surgery and liposuction. In fact I think people that are skinny do have it tougher in a certain way. Most people that are skinny, have always been that way because of their family genes. Personally I am a little skinny, but no matter how much I eat, I will never be overweight because my family are all that way. A majority of overweight people do it to themselves. They put junk inside their bodies and eat continually to become overweight.

So in a way Jake, you have a really good point. But the sympathy is and always has been for the overweight people. Being skinny is seen as a compliment rather than a negative but the opposite can be said for overweight people. For guys especially, being skinny is actually a little bit of a negative, but not nearwhere as much as being overweight. People judge others too much on their personality, rather than their appearance. Thats whats hurting the world today.

I would nail either, except the skinny birds are usually the ones I go back to!

Any holes a goal, as they say!!!

Fuck the fat people!

Sorry about my language, but I fail to see how a load of obese people(90% of which is self inflicted) can whine and bitch about being persecuted.

Like the fatties who sued Macdonalds for making them fat, or the fatty guy who moaned at a cinema because the seats are too small. Instead of moaning and expecting a handout, go to the gym or even better, stop eating so much.

You can moan about oh I get these hunger pains. So what? If a smack ridden druggie can go cold turkey, Im sure the fat bastards of the world can put down the Doritos and just say no. Hell, if you want to nibble something, eat celery. It burns of energy because you get little or nothing from eating it(strange but true)

Obese people should be made to feel guilty, just like smokers are forced to(im a smoker, and I feel pissed off that fat bastards dont get moaned at to "quit")

Smoking is bad yes, but it generates a lot of tax to put into the system. Fat people just pay the food(which I think only certain aspects are taxed in the UK, like Cakes)

So for example, my pack of 20 Marlboro(im a wannabe Yank) costs me just short of 6 quid, id say 4 quid of that goes into the Governments pockets(based on the fact 20 marboros cost 3 euros in Greece, which is about 2 quid).

A fat twat who pigs out on biscuits pays squat, yet ends up with diabetes and a serious heart condition.

But of course, its the smokers who are putting the strain on the NHS...

I am happy being "skinny". I dont put on wieght as much as I would like, but I do try to eat healthy and exercise often. Even If I was a 20 stone heffer, I would try to cut down and work out more, instead of breathing hard and moaning that they are being "victimised". Its very rare you get fat from a medical condition. Either the UK has some really fucked up people healthwise, or some fatty cant put down the cream cake smothered in bacon fat.
