Should the signing of RVD been kept secret???

I think I agree with keeping it a secret and teasing that something big was going down on Monday night. I just like it when you have an honest to god, "holy crap!" moment. They're so rare in wrestling these days, there's no surprises, no reason to tune in if you' weren't already planning on it.

I'm not a huge TNA fan, but they're growing on me. The in-ring wrestling is definitely good stuff, more excitement than the WWE. However, the production value of the televised show seems cheap, 2nd class if you will. When they fix the "look" of the product, make it seem like a big-time production, the fans will filter in more steadily and a Surprise Acquisition will truly make a splash for them.

I mean, if you don't watch Monday, and RVD appears (without you knowing it's going to happen), you're likely tuning in next week because you don't want to miss what might happen next. It's good business. TNA doesn't need to worry about ratings right off the bat, they have to worry about building a good foundation. The ratings will come if they build it right.

If you sign RVD, then you should promote the ever-loving shit out of it. God forbid you give anyone an actual reason to watch the show.

Why have RVD show up in a shocking manner rather than promoting his appearance and maybe bring along a bunch of extra viewers? If TNA's legit pissed that this got out, then they're even dumber than their critics could have imagined.

It deffinatley should have been promoted, I mean honestly, your going against WWE and you signed RVD and aint wana tell nobody?
IMO that would be a stupid move, but on the other hand Hogan and Bischoff are smart, let's give em credit, this may have been a work, as the article said, and that IMO is a great way 2 get that buzz goin around, (I.e. All of us on this thread)
Its a hot topic, and RVD is a HELL of a preformer, tho his "stick handling" abilities are limited in a sense, that deffinatley gets over shadowed by his in ring work.
Cudos to TNA for making a smart move, it is NEEDED if your goin to bat against The E, because once Vinnie Mac starts seeing TNA as a threat to his "baby" I'm sure all the stops will get pulled out and more compelling t.v. Will be produced.

I agree. WWE and TNA need to keep it a secret it just spoils it by telling everybody.

Example: I'm sure most of you remember Shawn Michaels vs Undertaker in the first Hell in a Cell. Paul Beare kept saying your brother Kane is coming. Around the time WWE signed Kane. If he would've came and no one knew he was coming it would have been a shocker.

I don't think it should of been kept secret either. I mean RVD is a big name, but isn't as big as someone like Stone Cold Steve Austin hosting Raw. People are going to tune in to see SCSA on Raw next week no matter how good or bad the show will be. After last night's Impact, there isn't really any reason for people to tune in Monday unless they like watching Hogan and Bischoff in every segment with no matches.

TNA have promoted the hell out of the main event, but they need to advertise RVD and even Sting. Dixie Carter wrote on her twitter that Sting has signed a new deal and that he won't miss Monday night. Why wouldn't you advertise Sting and RVD making their return to TNA?

As some people have stated already, what is the point of having surprises on your show if no one is going to watch it. The only thing TNA needs to surprise people with now is if they can actually have interesting matches that last more then 1 minute.

Are you people so bloody daft? RVD HAS BEEN AWAY FOR 3 YEARS......BAHHHHUUUUULLLLLLLLLLLSSSSSHHHHIIIIIIIITTTTTTT is what I say. Have you people who are reading spoilers not seen that RVD was working in the East and that he has his own Comic Book Store and that he has his own television program and radio program and every one of you last little fuckers are sitting here talking about him............But naw he aint been in the lime light for 3 years........

RVD should have been promoted like a crazy monkey fucker......they should have spliced in a segment where Paul Heyman was trying to get into the arena and when they turned him down then he could have put a sign on the door that said 03-08-2010 WILL BE ONE OF A KIND. Heyman would smirk then say it's gonna be a f'n good show and back to the poster. But hey letting the cat out of the bag on some radio program that not many people listen to an having Spike slip it out online is pretty good......now if they just promote the shit outta it like every 20 minutes with "Come Watch RVD Make His TNA Debut MONDAY NIGHT."

And RVD having ring rust? Come on he showed no signs of ring rust when he made those appearances in the last 3 years with the WWE. Plus the man has a official ECW RING set up in his dojo so I am sure he trains.

And RVD being scripted? Come on dude, in case you weren't watching......WWE scripts all their talent they acquire that isn't home bread.........RVD, CM Punk, Hurricane, London & Kendrick, Goldberg (although he was a 5 move wrestler much like Cena can be at times), ALL of the Original ECW talent, Bryan Danielson, the WWE loves to have as many crappy matches as they can have in a show so they have to cut corners hence why the aforementioned wrestlers were told to narrow down their ring maneuvers. But I am sure TNA does as well because you can go to a live show not taped an its some pretty good matches from both companies but when you go live they aren't as great as they could be. But then again that is due to TV time limits. So what do I watch this Monday Night?

It's simple..................

I'm gonna watch........................

THE WHOLE FUCKIN' SHOW!

Does it really matter? Keeping RVD a secret is like saying, TNA should have kept Shannon Moore a secret. RVD isn't that big of a draw, he has been out of the spot light for too long. Hell even when he was in the spot light he wasn't that great.

This is what ruins pro wrestling, no shockers. They should have kept it secret and let RVD make his appearance at the end of Monday's show - that would have garnered some publicity for the FOLLOWING WEEK.

Wrestling is supposed to be a cliffhanger, not telegraphed.

I think they should have promoted it similar to how Jericho returned, with really clever promo's that don't give anything away, but intrigue you. That way, people would be interested without the shock bein thrown away. Then, once he'd debuted on screen, they should promote the holy living hell out of his debut match. Have it at the next PPV and promote it up to high heaven. Thats what I'd do anyway. Only my opinion.

I think it's good to know in advance that RVD is coming to Impact. Now that you know that at least one thing is going to happen on Monday, you tune in to see how RVD does. Monday's show needs a good balance of the expected and the unexpected. Like the 1/4 show. It would've been crazy if we knew in advance that Jeff Hardy was gonna be on the show that day. I know a bunch of WWE viewers would've tuned in to see him.

I think keeping it a secret would have been a gift for the regulars but if they're worried about ratings it would have been a mistake.

I generally watch WWE because I think it's a better program. That being said there aren't any wrestlers there I LOVE besides Undertaker and I don't even LOVE watching his matches. I've always really enjoyed RVD's matches and the news of him signing has encouraged me to watch. I watched TNA this past Thursday and it was ONLY because of the RVD news. Without it, I don't have enough interest in the product. I'll be watching both on Monday but the second RVD shows up; nothing on RAW will keep me there. So ... I think it's a good thing the news got out.

I think TNA wanted RVD to play the role of Lex Luger. Guess it backfired. It could've gone both ways. If it'd been kept a secret, the following Monday would've been why to catch
TNA.

"What!? RVD was on iMPACT! Monday!? And I missed it!? I can't miss it this week!"

I think it was what they were going for. They already had Flair/AJ vs Hogan/Abyss promoted, they may have been aiming to use RVD's debut to attract those that wouldn't watch.

No I don't think the signing should've been kept a secret. TNA doesn't have too many big guns left to fire. Hogan has already debuted, so has Flair, AJ Styles and Kurt Angle have already had a couple of 5 star matches on free TV, and Jeff Hardy has already made an appearance. One of the only surprise cards they have left is the return of Sting. How will he come back? Why did he come back? What are his intentions?

RVD's signing should be known because that could be another reason for people who still aren't sold on TNA to tune into Impact on Monday. I doubt a tag match featuring Hogan and Flair wrestling will have people flocking to watch Impact on Monday. 15 or 20 years ago, the idea of Hogan and Flair wrestling on free tv would've been exciting, but now both men are up their in age, and wrestling fans have seen already seen these two go at it before. So why not make RVD's signing public? TNA might get some extra viewers because of this.

I think RVD is actually one of the few big names that could debut as a suprise. Sure, the devoted wrestling audience like him, but the majority of them will be watching TNA anyway, to try and boost the ratings, and for other reasons. RVD won't draw in any casual fans, because people just aren't really that arsed about him. As a result, keeping it a secret would have meant that he makes the show look shocking for those that have tuned in.

Actually, I think what has happened is probably the best thing that could have. This way, it is a crap secret, so the IWC, who love RVD, will tune in knowinghe's on, but the casual audience, who probably don't visit these websites will still be suprised by it as it wouldn't have been announced publically. If this was marketing, TNA played it well.

I think it should've been kept a secret.

Seriously, I watch TNA anyway, never watched WWE since the original DX era when I was younger, and my parents wouldn't let me watch it because of the whole "SUCK IT" thing.

I would have loved not knowing RVD signed, then watching TNA tomorrow night and seeing RVD come out of nowhere.

But again, the IWC and dirt sheets ruin the fun. And Hogan too....stupid dinosaur.
