Should Reigns do a Ryback like promo

That N Word

Actively evolving
Basically I was thinking if WWE were to have Reigns tell his story on Raw and be his self it would take some heat away from him. Maybe even have The Authority jump him after as well to bring some sentiment to Reigns. He would also have the fans respect. It worked for Ryback...so why not try it with Reigns. It could also bring some emotion in to him that makes him be more serious. A serious Reigns could be a better promo possibly. If he does good at it let him always be his self and stay away from scripted promos. If he fails then give his push to Bryan,Ambrose, or Ziggler.

The thing that made Ryback's promo work is because it's true. It wasn't the most eloquent, he seemed a little uncomfortable at times, though I don't know if it's because he's not hugely comfortable on the mic yet or because it's something that was difficult for him to talk about. At the same time, however, that made it seem more realistic. It was fairly common knowledge that he suffered a severe ankle injury that kept him out of action for the better part of 2 years. Regardless of from what walk of life you're from, just about everyone likes hearing a story of determination and heart. Ryback was told by several doctors that his career was over and he'd had to overcome a lot of adversity, probably even a good degree of self-doubt, in order to get his career back on track. That's part of why people responded so strongly to Daniel Bryan's promo this past Monday. Fans knew that their support of Bryan genuinely played a big role in his success in 2014, they know he married the gal of his dreams, they know that his dad died suddenly and saw the barely contained emotion that merely mentioning that fact drew out of Bryan. Bryan never even got the chance to say goodbye to his old man, didn't get a chance to be at his side as he just died so suddenly and I think that's something that everyone can relate to in some way. Plus, they knew the issue with his neck was serious and most of them had probably read the same reports over the past 6 months we had concerning the roller coaster ride of different medical information released.

Roman Reigns, to my knowledge, hasn't had to overcome any major adversity. Sure, he had a hernia that kept him out for a few months, I'm not trying to belittle how painful a hernia is, but there was no doubt that Reigns would be back. It's not like he had one doctor after another telling him that he needed to hang up his boots. WWE trying to artificially manufacture some sort of sympathy by having Reigns cut some sort of promo as to how he was uncertain about his career future would probably do more harm than good.

If you don't have something genuinely heart-wrenching to say in order to generate sentiment, it's probably best to not go down that road. I just don't think it's Reigns' time right now, he just hasn't progressed far enough and if Vince believes that most fans want another Superman character, then he's most definitely out of touch.

I have to agree with JH. Ryback has had a tough row to hoe on his way to where he is now compared to Roman Reigns. It is only if you have lived through adversity in your life should you even attempt it. True hardship is something you never forget, and when you speak about it, it comes out in your voice and facial expressions. It is then believable and even the most hardened cynic in crowd can find something to relate too.

Reigns has had no such hardship. He was an all star defensive tackle at Georgia Tech. Went on to have an NFL/CFL career and signed with the WWE. How did he get in the door, probably due to the fact that his family has produced a huge wrestling dynasty.

His father was one half of the Wild Samoan's, his uncle's include Yokozuma and Rikiski, cousin's The Rock and the Uso's. I'm sure I've missed a few there. So is it any wonder that the WWE didn't say no when he wanted to sign up. His looks and physique haven't hurt him either.

He might not have the charisma of The Rock or the wrestling skills of the Uso's twins, but he has something special, and will one day be the face of the WWE. There is absolutely nothing he can say to the crowd to make people feel sorry for him.

If he got up and told his story, he would be even more disliked. Fans would then say that he got where he was because of family connections, and they might be right in a way. Roman Reigns has had a pretty good life so far, and rubbing it in the faces of the fans wouldn't get him any sympathy at all.

One can appreciate this sentiment, and it makes me wonder how the rest of the locker room feels about Roman Reigns' good fortune. Due to the factors quoted above.....plus his look, which is amazing....he's had every door open to him since he came aboard. If he's a good guy, it could be that everyone is happy for him. If he isn't.....or if his push has led him to believe he's as remarkable a performer as presented, it will be harder for him to adjust to full stardom, if that's what's in store for Roman.

One might sense it's been a harder road for Ryback, and that promo, which seemed to come out of left field, sort of points that way, doesn't it? One of the best things in WWE is that many promos have elements of shoot and kayfabe....and we're never completely sure how much of each a speech contains.

But I'm willing to take Ryback at face value; presuming they let someone like him have mic time like that is because much of what he said is completely true.....and if it is, it fortifies his face status and makes him a bit more sympathetic as a character (and less of a monster), which will hopefully serve to take the bad taste out of our mouths that was left during his first go-around with the company.

Should Reigns do a similar promo? I don't know what purpose it will serve, although if he has a compelling a story to tell, it could be useful to his career. On the other hand, if his months away from action did nothing to slow his progress.....which is starting to appear likely....I don't know what he could tell us about personal adversity in his life that will do anything positive for him at this juncture.

Sometimes the best things are the ones left unsaid.

I think if Roman were to do a promo like the Big Guy did it would hurt him. I dont know Roman personally but it seems like Roman has had the sunshine on him since day one.. He has at least it seems the door has always been open for him.

To my knowledge he hasn't had really any hardships or setbacks in life.. He hasnt had any serious injury to which the doctor would advise him to hang up the boots. Roman comes from a long line of family history.

The audience and people in general like stories like Rybacks. Im glad Ryback said what he did, although it appeared he felt a little uncomfortable at times,it rang true and gave us a glimpse into Ryan Reeves. The crowd might turn on Roman if he were to do a promo like that. Not a good idea at all I know i would

I don't think that promos like Rybacks should be done on a frequent basis. This promo was done to get the crowd behind Ryback as a human and not just a beast. Although not eloquent this promo did exactly what it needed to do. Make Ryback a human.

Even though Reigns does need a good promo to get him over this is not the route to go. For one, I don't know if he has suffered any real hardships. For two, as has been mentioned he has the look and will be pushed to the moon regardless of whether or not the fans get behind him.

I think if Roman Reigns' character and his feelings about the SHIELD breaking up when it did were more explored in terms of detail, then and only then, will fans feel that they can understand why they should get behind Roman Reigns.
Roman Reigns doesn't need to do a Ryback promo in terms of going into any Real-life stuff, since as pointed out, he doesn't really have any to truly help him get some 'sympathy'.

However, if we go back to the SHIELD, when they were a group, they moved around as a pack, as close knit, one for all, all for one.
However, when the SHIELD broke up, we saw Dean Ambrose's character explored and got some depth on him and why he was hurt from what Seth Rollins did, alongwith his craziness.
We also got a lowdown on how much of a scumbag Seth Rollins was, and how he truly is a self-serving sell out.

What have we got about the Roman Reigns character exactly?
He went after the Authority, whilst Ambrose went after Rollins in the personal feud which got the fans behind Dean Ambrose big time.

So, we understood that Roman blamed HHH and the other cronies... and up until SummerSlam, the entire angle made sense, and there was some continuity to it, but it all got scrambled thereafter, as Ambrose got written off of TV due to Cinder blocks, with Kane helping Rollins, whilst Reigns was MIA... just imagine if Reigns attempted to at least help Dean Ambrose when he was being brutalised, wouldn't fans have gotten behind him?
For some reason, WWE Creative thought it sensible to have him MIA at times. when instead, acknowledging the Ambreigns alliance would have made sense, they ended up giving the crowd the idea that Roman Reigns was a self-serving guy who forgot his 'brother'.
Yes, he went after Rollins the next week, and beat him cleanly 1 on 1 shortly thereafter, before his injury.

Fast forward to now, and Roman Reigns is now a guy who randomly attacked the Big Slow and is now feuding with him...and has basically forgot what he promised to do in his promo after the SHIELD broke up.
Even in his satellite interviews, he was supposed to go after Seth Rollins, but he comes out to attack the Big Slow? Did that even make sense?

To sum it up;
Roman Reigns has been booked to be the Unstoppable Force in a possible match against the Immovable Object called Brock Lesnar.
But beyond strong booking(Results-wise), there has been a distinct lack of continuity in his storylines/feuds thus far, and especially since he returned from injury, which would have helped tell the fans, he is our guy, get behind him because this is his plight...

They have basically written Roman Reigns in such a way as though he has Amnesia :banghead: in order to fast-track him into a match he doesn't have the required momentum for.

Ideally, I assume, had he Not gotten injured, he would have faced HHH at TLC or the Royal Rumble, before winning the Rumble and moving onto Brock Lesnar.

But with injury, instead of applying the brakes, and having him go at HHH like he promised post-SHIELD, they are having him skip that 'blood feud' entirely, to go straight to Lesnar with practically no build and forced booking.

Hopefully, with the Authority back, they will retrace their steps or Reigns' career might end up in reverse gear when it has loads potential provided some patience is shown.

I either hated Ryback's promo or I was just in the mood for something completely different, but I hope I don't see another "please like me" speech for a long time. We get it, life is hard; why don't you write all that down in a shitty biography, Cryback?

I don't think Reigns needs sympathy to get over with the crowd, I think they need to start again with the basic stuff. I think he needs more time to learn how to sell a match, he needs a helluva lot more acting classes, and he needs to change his goofy ass ring attire. Hey Reigns, news flash: The Shield is finished.

It's pretty clear from watching Reigns that putting him in the main event at Mania 31 would be a fuckin disaster and I would be genuinely shocked if Roman wins the Rumble. Give the guy a chance, WWE.

I don't think that would help Reigns. If anything, I think it'd hurt him because one of his weaknesses is talking on the mic.

WWE just need to get back to him doing what made fans love him in the first place when he was in The Shield, kick ass ask questions later.

I think Reigns is likeable but having him face Big Show doesn't help. They're dragging this feud out, if anything him feuding with Rollins would have made much more sense and fans would have connected to him more.
