Santino Marella

Rabbid Wolverine

Pre-Show Stalwart
hmmm, i didnt see this one coming, but i did have a feeling he was gonna win though, just because they went through all this stuff that he cant sue and then when it turned into a no holds barred match, i had a feeling something was goin down.

the guy looks pretty good, i guess time will tell what he can really do

anyone with anything to say about this guy

WZ is reporting he's from OVW, he was doing a Russian Mobster gimmick.

Great debut, he looked pretty good... I mean as good as you can look when you're debuting against Umaga (and I mean that in the sense that he's an unstoppable powerhouse you can't get too much offense in on). I certainly didn't see that coming and even after everything they were saying I wasn't thinking they would actually give him the title.

Hopefully he can run with it. Who knows? Maybe in 5 years we'll be looking at this as a great moment on RAW. it was certainly an unexpected and very well done angle.

i didnt think he would win it either but it was a good surprise to c umaga lose to a rookie in his debut match against the UNstoppable samoan bulldozer

Well lets see the track record of peopel who have won titles in their debuts with WWE.
Gail Kim won a battle royal, rode the Matrix train but seemingly in the WWE if you dont make Jerry drool you dont have a future. Over all had talent, charisma
Carlito great personality, can wrestle but dosent have passion. He could have been great and WWE was ready to push him but he he screwed the pooch.

Christian won the light heavyweight title. But A when he won the title is was little more than a prop belt (as it has been for most of its tenure in WWE). The fans were making him into a star but WWE never saw it and he went to became champ for another company.

All in all not the gretest group to be grouped with but who knows how things will turn out. All depends on how WWE wants to play it. Im sure this guy will be on McMahons bad side for embarassing him which will lead to matches where you think he will lose but like Mikey Whipwreck will find a way to impossibly win.

I remember talk about this guy last year when ECW was about to come back.. Paul Heyman wanted him in the new ECW, I believe.. They were thinking about having Tazz mentor him to train him to be the next Tazz type or something.

I hated what happened last night. It was another 30 mins of bullshit to me. I'm tired of seeing how far the Intercontinental belt has fallen that now they just give it to someone who hasn't even had 1 real match.

I think this guy has potential to be really good!! He was in OVW as Borix Alexiev, an unstoppable, brutal russian shoot fighter, and hes good in the ring! I recon he can go far is they dont screw him up!

He was damn entertaining last night. He looked like he was destroying umaga before umaga jumped him after the slap attacks. He looked like he knew what was going on for most of the time and when he won i was freakin out. Seriously, some random guy from the crowd comes in and wins the belt, good job for wwe for finally picking someone that has some talent.

what are all you people talking about personally i thought it was a great angle to bring him in to wwe and the only reason he won the belt is to get the fans on his side, wwe is coming to terms with they have to see young talent suceed because if they dont this business is finished!you dont think he will be keeping the belt for weeks to come he is ment to only be a FAN he's hardly going to get into the ring next week and start doing DDT's and suplex's the way i see it they will get some wrestler into the ring next week he will put up a good fight they will steel the victory he will lose the belt but the fans will still love him!

Don't worry, the only reason people are against it is because they can't bring themselves to say somethign positive about WWE.

Finally they do something interesting and unexpected with a talent that looks like he has potential, and still they can't say anything positive about it. It's ludicrous.

I'm just annoyed because of the way they're throwing about the Intercontinental Championship. However it's too early to tell, this guy could be the next big thing...or not

Throwing it around? Umaga had it and he was undefeated for the most part before he won it. Before that Jeff Hardy had it and he most likely deserved it no?

Jeff deserved it, Umaga didn't. Umaga to my recollection defended it twice, one of these he lost. it's lost it's prestige which was starting to build up again with Jeff, but ike I said it's too early to tell.

Yeah other than the belt being tossed around too carelessly I have to agree that the angle was spot on. The Italian guy winning in Italy against the Samoan Bulldozer Uuuumaga! (BTW, why doesn't AAE do all those introduction antics anymore? It was funny and gave him more personality!) The whole thing was just one of those special moments that the WWE decides to give back to the fans without trying to hide the fact that they are. I could have seen it going down over the Crusierweight belt better though (although I doubt it would have been much of a challenge toppling Chavo), so slaying the monster Umaga just went perfectly.

It was good to see Umaga lose the I.C. title b/c it was pointless for him to have it in the first place when he is feuding with Lashley for the ECW title anyway. WWE must have good faith in Santino to just give him the title out of nowhere to surprise the Italian fans. I would have rather see him do debut promos on the last couple of RAWs and then accept the Umaga challenge in his home country of Italy last night b/c fake fan plantings are getting old and lame IMO. I would not be surprised if Great Khali is Santino's opponent next week and he wins the I.C. title from him, that would be another classic RAW.

Good way to have an angle to play off for the fans. Though i think Santino will be ok. The big quesion now is where does WWE take him now as the IC champ. From the looks since he had Bobby's help and defeated the big bad Umaga he will be a face. He did well in OVW and his gimmick is something that you can work with. I can see him feuding with Johnny Nitro over the IC belt that be a damn good program.

This was a good angle because it was WWE's way of making a star. What better way of making some on a star then having him defeat a "monster" and win a tile. They will do the same thing with the Great Khali down the road. Some little guy will beat him and become the next big thing.

ye it was a good angle, especially since the italian fans were into it... i think wwe needs to start doing alot more raws/sd/ppv from other countries, the fans are so much more into the product..

i was wondering who umaga would lose the title to, wwe needs to stop giving the titles to ppl who dont need them...ex=umaga an ic title, rko and cena/hbk tag titles

I was deff. surprised by the whole thing and I really didn't think that guy was gonna win aganist Umaga. I thought it was just gonna turn into a very embarrsing match with a random fan, but hey he won (with the help of Lashley) and thats good for him. We will see what he can do.

Great youtube clip. And if Marella was coming to WWE as Boris Alexiev, I'd be pretty hyped about it...but he isn't. And if he keeps this gimmick as the "lucky fan", I don't know whether we'll actually get to see a lot of wrestling out of him...i hope we do because it looks like he does have some moves..

on a side note, Marella only spoke in Italian last night. Do you think he'll get a manager/valet when he starts out to do his talking for him, or do you think they'll let him speak english when he gets to an english speaking crowd?

I was really excited when this guy won. The angle was interesting and it was even better since it was in his country. I am glad he didnt come as a ethnicity thats not really his. Fricken Muhammed Hussan was ITALIAN and I, being an Arab-American, was offended when i found out he wasnt arabic.

I am glad Santino is champ. I always knew the WWE would have a young superstar defeat Umaga to get a push. I was right! I think if this guy can continue to fight with the technical fighting like Chris Benoit, and the CM Punk kicking skills, he could turn out to be pretty big.

I disagree with anyone who thinks he is a dumb superstar to have as champ, i think when he proves himself more, EVERYONE will love him.

And his Lion tatoo is SWEET!!!

Come on. Are you bashers fucking serious?!? I mean this is the first thing the WWE has done unexpected since Edge won the title from Cena at last years NYR and some people are bashing it. This guy has all the talent in the world and can be a great wrestler unless the WWE cocks it up, which they probably will. That's beside the point. The point is they launched a new face and did it quicker than they ever could have with another gimmick. I've watched him in OVW for awhile and this guy can be the real deal. Give him a chance and stop bashing to be bashing. I hate the WWE at times but my God I have to commend them on this. I didn't see the article on here last night so I was very surprised to see this happen. This guy deserves a nice long title run to build his character and hopefully that's what we'll get.

I mean God forbid we actually have a true wrestler on Raw. Would those of you who are bashing this be happier with Umagga still being IC Champ? Sorry for the language.

Woah. Triple H, Kane, Ric Flair, and Shawn Michaels all job to Umaga...just so some guy from OVW can come out of the crowd and beat Umaga for the IC Title? B.S.

I wouldn't be happy with Umaga as champ, but there are a ton of guys on the Raw roster more worthy of being IC champ then the new guy. He has cheap face heat on him right now, that will be gone by the end of the European trip. Again, this guy is the creative teams new flavor of the month. When creatives attention span goes away, the IC title will go floating to Khali.

Like been said before the IC belt is pointless it holds no meaning anymore. Yet, i wouldnt be suprised if he faces Khali next week and loses the belt next week to him. i still think he can keep his face pop if he gets in a program with Johnny Nitro which i think could happen
