Roseanne

Am I the only one who likes this show? To me this was the ultimate family television show. It was a more realistic show then say.. Fresh Prince.. or anything else that the market had to offer in those days. Roseanne Barr is a funny woman, just sometimes she annoys more then entertains. Can't go wrong with John Goodman. The kids were good as well. You had Becky, the oldest daughter who seemed to always want alot and complain when she didn't get it, and was always "treated unfairly." Then you have the next daughter, Darlene who everyone considers a tomboy. She's sort of a loner, and real sarcastic and snappy-witted. She doesn't take any junk from either her brother or her sister and is my favorite character after John Goodman. Then you have DJ, the nosy, annoying, stereotypical young brother who loves pestering his two sisters. The show was a huge hit. It won a large amount of awards including the rare Peabody award. I enjoy it everytime I see reruns come on Nick @ Nite.

Freddy....I may love you. Roseanne is absolutely my favorite TV show of all time (Wonder Years runs a close second). I remember watching it as a kid, so I have fond childhood memories associated with this show. I have since watched the entire show on rerun from 1st episode to last on at least 3 occasions. The show was so well done with each character being an important aspect of the show. Each character was so in deep and contributed so much to the story. The show tackled real life issues in a very unique and witty way. I laugh my ass off at every episode. It was and still is a great, great show.

I watched Roseanne casually growing up, but never became a big fan.

Then, I just started watching randomly a couple of years ago, and I did end up digging the show. At least, the early seasons. The last season though really turned me off. I mean, could it have been more horrible once they won the lottery? I don't see how so. They pull you in with this Dan heart attack storline, and then they just rip all that emotion away with a bunch of bullshit. I HATE the last season. And then... the Series Finale, my God... I cannot believe anyone would be ******ed enough to end the show that it was all a book written by Roseanne. I mean, really? Now when you watch, you have to question everything that happens. And they even ruin Darlene/David, which, outside of Dan, was my favorite aspect about the show.

So, yeah... while the last season leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, the early seasons and the stuff that involves Darlene and David are definitely great, great, great stuff. Dan/John Goodman never failed to make me laugh. He was beyond awesome, and still is. And Darlene and David were just one of the best couples in the history of television. That show definitely gave us some great stuff.

Have you seen him lately? I worry about him, he is a heartattack waiting to happen, he has gotten huge.

Yeah, I saw him on Letterman a few months ago, and he has gotten bigger, plus he was bald. However, he was working Broadway and said he had stopped drinking, so while he may look bad.... he might be in better shape then you would believe. Also, he just got a new television program, and I know you have to pass a physical to do a show like that, so if there was something wrong with him, then he wouldn't have been able to pass that physical, so I'm sure he's just fine.

But hopefully he can kick that weight as time goes by.

Yeah, hopefully he is healthier than looks appear. I always thought he was funny and would hate to see him be another funny big guy who died too young.
You would think with the money that he has that he could have a personal trainer and personal chef to keep his health in check.

I gotta admit, when I was growing up and casually catching Roseanne on TV, I didn't much care for her either, I found her annoying and I didn't get the show I guess. Hell, I was a little kid, Power Rangers and Barney was king then. I get the show now, I understand all the meanings, I can relate to being broke and struggling to get bills paid and just the situations that took place during the show. They still go on for me y'know? It's a severely underrated show.

I was a huge fan, and always glued myself to the TV whenit was on. It was funny, and sadly, reminded me a bit of my family. All of the characters were very "real", as were the storylines.

I have trouble watching the re-runs though. They're all still very good, but I'd hate to be watching for fun, and get stuck with Dan's heart attack episode. I cried like a baby when that happened, and it'd kill me to see it again...

Definitely in my top 5 of favorite shows ever! I watch it just about every night to fall asleep either on Nick @ Nite or TV Land. I thought the last season was just dumb then to all unfold as a story written by Roseanne and how she changed the characters around kinda ruined a way to end the series, because if you but Roseanne's twist of swapping people around like David with Becky and Mark with Darlene, and having Jackie be gay, the changes wouldn't work, for example Becky never would've have went for David's type, And as for Jackie being gay, dont think that would've worked because then you wouldn't have a lot of stuff happen like when Fisher beat her, or when she slept with Arnie.
It probably would've been better to cut a lot of that last season out and have Roseanne explain that mid-season so they can use the rest of the season to show what happens to everyone with the reality of what she just dropped upon us

Roseanne was a great show. Since you were a little kid when it was on I could see why you think it's underrated now, but it was not underrated at all at the time. The show was in the top 4 in ratings for it's first six seasons. It was actually #1 in season two. It fell to #10 in season seven. The last two seasons ratings started to really drop. As some people mentioned above the last season was awful. They should have just called it quits after Darlene and David's wedding. No heart attack and no lottery. Roseanne was definiately recognized as the great show it was during it's run.
