Heavy D was a rapper who had success in the early 90's during the club music/ new jack swing/b-boy era with his hit "Now that we found Love". He was also featured in the Michael Jackson hit "Black or White" where he performs the rap solo. He was apart of the early rap scene that originated in the 80's b-boy scene during the golden age of rap and he carried that into the 90's. It stood outside of gangster rap which was becoming popular at the time, standing more in the style of earlier groups like Run DMC, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, Digital Underground, Kid N Play, Doug E Fresh, Slick Rick, Jurassic Five, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, LL Cool J, Afrika Bambaataa, M.C. Hammer, De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, and other rap acts of that time that were centered more around girls, parties, dancing, and fun in general. It was rap that had a different attitude than what came after it and was rising at the time. This was the stuff that actually made rap popular and didn't take away from it's legitimacy. It should also be noted that he was a big man who could not only rap but dance well too.
