At this year's Royal Rumble, we witnessed the WWE revising footnotes in their history once again.
Beth Phoenix becomes the 2nd female to ever enter the Royal Rumble.
Prior to last night, the only woman to have ever participated in the Royal Rumble was Chyna. Naturally, it's a well-known fact that Chyna's departure from the WWE was (shall we say) less than stellar. She's become an embarrassment to the WWE in recent years, and having her in the record books must have been taxing on their legacy. After all, legacy (not the tag team) means more to a promotion and its individual wrestlers than just about any other aspect of the business.
Chyna's embarrassment and the memory of her Rumble entrance had to be strickened from the record, so Beth Phoenix now holds the footnote.
I'll mention one other footnote: The youngest WWE champion in history.
The Rock took this footnote back in 1998 when he won the Deadly Games Tournament during Survivor Series at 26 years old. Because of his inevitable departure from the WWE to pursue acting, it was decided that the footnote needed to be rewritten, and Brock Lesnar was chosen to carry the torch. He won the WWE Championship at Summerslam 2002 at 25 years old. But we all know what happened to him...
So the WWE needed to rewrite the footnote once again, so this time they chose Randy Orton. At Summerslam 2004, Randy Orton won the World Heavyweight Championship from Chris Benoit and became the youngest WWE champion in history at age 24. That record still stands to this day.
I'd like all of you to think of other ways where the WWE has done this. How has the WWE "revised" their mistaken "footnotes" of the past?
