Repackages

How come they don't do it much anymore? The only one I can really think of is Jay Lethal. But that's not original. It's not as good as it used to be. Smash to Repo Man, OMG to Akeem, Isaac Yankem to Fake Diesel to Kane, Tugboat to Typhoon and more. Why don't they do it? If a wrestler like Mike Knox for example just isn't working then why don't they give a really outlandish gimmick? People might take the piss out of some of the gimmicks from the early 90's. But y'know what everyone remebers Repo Man, and what did he ever achieve?

Im not sure at all why it doesnt get done much anymore...I mean they dont really need to be an outlandish character, I think repackages could make some guys be taken a lot more seriously if done right. I dont at all know why the majors just seem to want to give up on guys, and then move to the next greenhorn. The only logical explanation I can come up with is that WWE creative is just really THAT bad, to were they cant come up with new characters, and angles. Im not sure why they cant send some of their failures down to OVW or FCW to practice the shit outta their new gimmicks, and let people forget them and come back later...maybe when they create these new international territories (like the brazillian? one they are working on now) itll be easier to do, as ppl in the states wont have any chance of seeing them, itll be easier for them to forget, thus making a repackaging more effective....

I am totally with you on this. Everybody in WWE now has to be real, with real names and gimmicks. Thats no damn fun. Thats the reason no people stoped watching. Don't get me wrong, I still watch raw every monday night. But what i tune in to see is McMahon and Hornswoggle, some Umaga and Hardy Cage Action. We need more over the top zany gimmicks like The Minotaur and Seven! Where would the tag team division be without the bushwackers and The Head Bangers! We will always remember these great men. We would all watch it just a little more...

When someone is stale...a better idea most of the time is a heel or face turn .. eg Hulk in WCW, The Rock, Austin, even Santino

at the end of the day, if you place almost anyone in a good feud with a good story line and good wrestling, i think the characters take a back seat anyway

Never in my life have I seen someone post that the WWE needs more gimmicks like Minotaur. Never.

I think the WWE stopped thinking about repackaging wrestlers when the internet began to take such a large presence in the business and in the world for that matter. Alot of people I think would be pissed if the WWE repackaged a wrestler these days, it would be considered an insult to our knowledge. Not that it is, but thats what people would say.

So unless we're talking about some drastic changes in appearance, like Hardcore Holly in a full body cow suit, then I don't know if it would work.

Pretty much yeah. If the wrestler is going to fail with a straight gimmick. Then why not give him something outlandish? It works for Hornswoggle. And it worked very well for The Undertaker. I don't think for a second that his gimmick was supposed to be a long term thing. It just happened to catch on.
