Refund!

An Elite member wrote me to tell me that he called Cox Cable and asked for a refund due to the finish of the Night Of Champions PPV being overturned. He said that Cox eventually gave it to him and the representative told him that other people had asked for a refund for the same reason.
Cox is my cable company as well so I called my representative and was told that indeed other people have already called and gotten refunds, feeling that by invalidating the finish of the show that they paid for, they deserved it. This could become a slippery slope for wrestling companies.
It's a story that while it sounds silly, it's started to gain a bit of traction today. It's petty. Then again, stripping the title was a dumb move anyway.

The funny thing is they have legitimate grounds for refunds given that wrestling is technically construed as fighting in the PPV market and any main event reversal for any fighting event will get a refund (I learned something today!).

I think its ridiculous but hey if you can get away with not paying why not? Also I don't see the big deal with how the story went anyways. I'm curious KJ why do you think the title stripping was dumb?

ummmmm, they never reversed any decision. They just stripped the winner of the match of his title. He still won the match and the championship. Should King of the Ring 1998 be refunded because Kane lost the belt the next night? No.

That cable company is fucking stupid.

I could see if there was a power outage at the building and the lights went out so they couldn't finish the show, I could see if something happened that caused them to lose a signal and again you couldn't see the rest of the show.

But to get a refund over the way the story line played out? That's ridiculous. These people are a bunch of cry babies and the cable company has nothing to do with how story lines play out. Why should they have to refund the money?

Even what Deanerandterry said doesn't make any sense to me at all. If a main event from any fighting event gets reversed the cable companies have to provide refunds and not the company that reversed the decision? The cable company has zero to do with the outcome of a fight and the decision to reverse it.

These people who are demanding refunds are idiots and I don't want to associate with them in any way.

Sorry I meant nullified not reversed. Its ******ed don't get me wrong but that's how it works. Apparently if someone pays to see a fight and there's no outcome (or the outcome gets nullified) you can get a refund and for whatever reason wrestling on PPV is grouped with UFC and boxing.

When the story is that the COO is making decisions that are the "best for business" and those decisions lose money, is that irony?

Or is this just part of the story?

I really find it hard to believe. Hardy/Sting Victory Road (I think) didn't give people squat back. I couldn't get Comcast to at least get me some vaseline or a wad of spit while they fucked me up the ass with their charges.

1. I'm guessing the cable company pays for that returned rental fee, not WWE.

2. Giving the title to DB, this early into the program, wouldn't make any sense. I know DB fanboys struggle with that, just not sure why. You boys realize it's a fake title... right?

It's going to anger people because despite Daniel Bryan winning he was screwed out of the title before even having a single match with it. It would be fine if it was the first time, but it just happened one PPV ago. There's nothing to gain from the title being stripped. It's not making Bryan look any better, he beat Orton. It's not creating sympathy, it's just pissing people off. And this claim of people asking for refunds proves it. Just what was the problem with Bryan holding the title for 3 weeks and giving the fans what they wanted for a little while? It did marvels for Mankind. Why not Bryan?

It prolongs the story. It was way too early for Bryan to win the title anyways and it advances what he's doing with Triple H, not Orton. Thats the thing to remember, although he's feuding with Orton the main guy he's feuding with is Triple H. When it comes to light Trips paid off Scott Armstrong (which is the only logical explanation) it will create more sympathy for Bryan. The idea is to stack the deck as much as possible so when Bryan finally stands tall it will be that much sweeter. Besides it certainly accomplishes getting more heat on Triple H that's for sure.

I agree it would have been fine if they just had him win for a few weeks only to drop it back under shady circumstances but personally I like the approach they took. Sure it pisses fans off but that's the point of doing such a thing. The fact that people are so upset they are demanding refunds shows how emotionally invested they are in Bryan and when he finally stands tall they will be that much more happier, in theory at least.

I agree completely. This win wasn't needed, would have been better off with the screwy finish in Orton's favor . They should have pulled a Steve Austin ECW moment and had Bryan come out Monday and say "I was this close to winning the title and it makes me want it even more" and then proceed to win it at Battleground or Survivor Series. I digress.
