$40 million is guaranteed, but, taken as a whole, this comes out to McNabb receiving $15.6 million a year. As a Redskins fan, I see this as one big gamble with an unknown outcome (for the time being anyway). I know it's not going to hurt Danny Boy's pockets one bit, but will it hurt our chances of becoming a viable contender once again? Or will this give McNabb the motivation to match the love and zeal 'Skins fans feel for their team?

I'm only sure of one thing right now: I will be calling McNabb an abject failure if his payday doesn't result in him giving his best performance ever on the field tonight.

This seems like a lot of money for a 34 year old quarterback and that is coming from a Donovann Mcnabb fan. It's especially odd considering what just happened a couple weeks ago with McNabb being pulled against Detroit. It seems as if Shanahan and McNabb have now come to an understanding about the incident but this still seems a little weird.

McNabb is easily the best qb the Redskins have had in recent history so it makes sense they want to hold on to him but the price does seem a little high. If the Skins make a couple playoff runs then it will be worth it, we will just have to wait and see how things unfold.

I mentioned this in the NFL thread and I will say it here. I'm not sure I understand this move. It seemed as though Shanahan didn't care for McNabb and didn't see him as the future of this team. At least, that's what I felt.

15 million a year is a lot of money to pay for an aging QB. McNabb will need some playoffs runs here to make that extension worth it. Expectations will be high starting tonight.

Seems really risky. McNabb has looked like shit this year for the most part. Maybe Andy Reid knew what he was doing when he traded him, that he's almost washed up at this point. He'll be 39 in five more years. That's pretty old. Plus, he just got benched for Rex Grossman a few weeks back. The Shanahan/McNabb relationship can't be that strong.

This may just be the Skins overreacting because he's the first decent QB they've had in basically forever.

This deal was pretty much a sexy one year deal. If the Skins cut him after this season it is only gonna cost them something like 3.5 million dollars. This is a safe move for the Skins and McNabb. With the potential lockout looming the Skins are now guaranteed a QB and McNabb is now guaranteed a job if there is a lockout. It is a safe move that is protecting them in case there is a lockout and if they don't want McNabb if they play next season it won't cost them too much and they both can move on. A win-win if you ask me.
