Raw Main Event Prior To Night Of Champions 2014

John McCass

You talkin' to me?
The main event for that episode was set to be Seth Rollins VS Roman Reigns. It happened and Reigns won clean. Strangely, the match was also scheduled for Night of Champions PPV. Thereafter, Reigns got injured and didn't appear at the PPV. In fact, he didn't appear for the better part of that year.

It was one of the times when Reigns wasn't much over. He used to get mostly negative reactions. People had become aware that Reigns was pegged to be the one to dethrone Lesnar at Wrestlemania 31. Ambrose had gone for film shooting and Rollins didn't have any feud. Having beat Orton at Summerslam, Reigns had tons of momentum going along with him. Unfortunately, he got injured.

Then, Ambrose showed up at Night of Champions and it all felt so awkward. So what boggles me is why Reigns won clean at Raw when he was already booked to face Rollins 6 days later? Did they know what was coming? Did they know Reigns was going to disappear after that Raw? Did they think absence of Reigns will help him either way?

I think you are talking about when he went out for harnia surgery?
they just book some matches on raw which are going to be ppv sometimes... and maybe they knew..... They just made him win to start the main event level push for the Wrestlemania

If they knew they wouldnt risk him being hurt more by working. And if they make him work the match he would be protected on RAW and worked PPV match instead and then go thru surgery. Not to mentioned its hernia surgery. Good luck trying to work a match with that.

It was just bad luck. Days before PPV he needed emergency surgery so they canceled PPV match later. And him doing same match on RAW and then on PPV is not uncommon thing for WWE. They are infamous for doing that.

Was the OP paying attention to crowd reactions that summer?

Negative reactions started when the IWC got slapped in the face with the fact that more people than just them vote for Slammy Awards. Then exploded when Daniel Bryan didn't just return from injury and immediately get given a main event spot......wait....isn't that what everyone was pissed off at Reigns for....???

WWE's usual booking method in these things is that the ppv will have the opposite result to the tv match, so the likelihood is that Rollins would have won at NOC, probably controversially.

I'm quite glad plans went awry though as it meant we got a very good, meaningful, Cell match at the very good Hell in a Cell ppv the following month

Exactly! The crowd started booing him out of the Arena only when he returned from his injury at TLC and botch a backstage interview with Renee. The crowd hated the fact that he won the Slammy award. I reckon the OP is a tad confused about the alternate boos and cheers that had flown in Roman Reign's way.
