I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but this is the best Raw I have seen all year(I've only missed one). I'm usually left disappointed at the end of the night, but on this night, I felt like I actually watched a real Monday Night Raw. Here's why(keep in mind these may not all be in the correct order).
-The very begining:"Welcome to monday night Raw" then Punk's music hit. The crowd got all hyped up and I felt it was a good openner. Much better than a lot of the post Summer Slam episdoes that had the roster on the stage.
-Punk's promo was very short and to the point. They carried the storyline between the Wyatt's and Punk(Which is great because usually it would be random attacks and not much else after).
-They made appropriate use of the duller moments of the Wyatt's entrance to show some brief footage of the attack on Bryan. Instead of showing both.
-The match itself was great. It really showed what Harper is capable of and gave us a chance to see a little more of his character. I loved how his menacing family members sat there at ringside. Reminded me of the attitude era. I also liked how quickly Wyatt was able to roll out of the ring when Punk got the chair.
-Both Divas Matches were decent. The return of Tyson Kidd was pretty cool. It looks like he put on some bulk, which is great for the fans that want a more believable performer, but was still able to move around just as well as before(better IMO). The 6 Diva tag match was good in the sense that it was short and to the point. It gave the divas a solitary segment, we didnt have to waste TV time on their entrances and it further played the the comments the Bellas made about the red haired girl(forget her name) on the Total Divas promos.
- Del Rio vs Kofi was a really good match in my opinion. I love how brutal ADR is. It really tells the story of how pissed he is for losing the belt. He took the aggression out on Kofi.
- The segment in the back with Ryback and the face Job Squad was decent in the fact that Ryback didn't cower from Khali towering over here. i really hate when heels have to be cowardly and run. Even the bad ass heels always run. The match was okay, which is really good for 2 wrestlers who really aren't good at wrestling. Then after Ryback got the pin and rolled out the wing I was disappointed, because it was like typical current day WWE(giving just the bare minimum). Then Ryback turns around and attacks Santino while Hornswaggle fled. I was pleased then. it just makes sense that way. Why would a monster bully just get a quick 3 count and leave. He would want to do some damage.
- The Randy Orton opponent was a pretty obvious choice. He's getting the push so I knew it would be him. This really excited me since Big E is one of my favs. The match itself was really good. Even though you knew Langston couldn't win over the champ. I liked the pace of the match and the back and forth action. Langston's physicality is great and I liked how it wasn't a typical Orton vs Mid Carder match.
- The tag team match with Rhodes vs Americans was good with the addition of Sandow and Cena. Cena brought some more hype to the match. It helped carry the feud between Cena and Sandow without having to have Sandow lose another singles match. Also the Real Americans typically bore me at this point, so the added superstars made this worth watching. I loved the commentary, the whole Mexican/Anti-Immigration guys having some slight banter while bashing common foes. I thought it worked well.
- The Ziggler vs Hennig match was good. If Henning needs an opponent, it's Ziggler. Hennig is a bit dull and Ziggler can carry anyone in the ring. Plus it's better than Henning facing and losing to the top faces.
- I like the dissension between Steph and Hunter. I think it gives more options for future storylines. I'm still hoping the new corporation merges with the new Ministry(Wyatt's). It makes sense storyline wise. They took Bryan out of the title picture after attacking Bryan, which could be booked as retaliation for attacking HBK. Then they attack punk which allows the "Devil" to be Heyman, but also could be tied to the McMahons as punk is the next biggest threat barring Cena. Also Punk holding the belt hostage against McMahon. Also the Wyatt's reformatted Kane for the Corporation. I just love how there are so many possible angles, with clear intent on following through with something.
- The ending segment was great. I loved seeing shages of the old HHH, when he got in Show's face and told him to leave before he leaves him in a pool of his own blood. Even when Show tried to get in his face back, HHH wasn't the one to back down. Then the Shield's music hit. It's ironic that this was a mistake that pissed HHH off. I thought that the fact that their music hit at a point that wasn't an obvious scripted-feeling cue. Reminiscent of Attitude Era again. Giving what I know now I did like how well it was played off after the commercial break. Him leaning on the ropes "You were saying Show?" was priceless. Then not a hadicap match againts not 2, not 3 but 4 opponents. Very heelish move that reminded me of the McMahon Helmsley Era. Then as if that weren't enough...KANE!! I like the new look. I wouldn't think that I would like it but I like it. It fits the storyline. I also like the parallel to the original corporation. Kane was a member because the only other option was being locked up in an insane assylum. This is similar with this being what best for business. Especially when he all of a sudden has a different opinion after being carried away for a lenth of time by The Wyatts. Helps offer the storyline I'm hoping for.
Overall the best Raw I have seen thus far this year. I hope they can keep it up this way, because this was the first time in a while I felt I was watching Monday Night Raw and not watching WWE puts out another show. Anyone else feel this way? Discuss please.
