Rate a Superstar #1 - John Cena

FutureChamp328

King of the Spear
I have been toying with this idea for some time so here goes nothing. Anybody who plays the Smackdown vs Raw games knows that each superstar in the game is given a skill rating based on several attributes. What I want is to take this to the next level and have you all put in you're own ratings on the real superstars and then give an overall based on those ratings. Now to do this you will need to do it from a point of view that kayfabe is reality so just suspend belief for a few minutes and pretend it's all real again. There are 8 categories and they are:

  • Strength
  • Durability
  • Speed
  • Hardcore
  • Submission
  • Technical
  • Charisma
  • Stamina

Ok now here is how this actually works. You give every attribute a rating from 1 to 10 with 10 being the best. When you rate them all you add the numbers together and divide by 8. That number is your overall rating. After you are finished just give a brief explanation as to why you rated the way you did. Happy posting. You're first superstar is the face of the WWE himself John Cena. And.... GO!

Strength 10 - See his match at WM25, nuff said

Durability 10 - His ability to withstand every move in his opponents' arsenal and still come out on top is something of legend (for better or worse)

Speed 8 - Not blindingly quick, but moves very well for a 250+ pounder

Hardcore 8 - One of the best brawlers since Stone Cold Steve Austin, although the current style of WWE programming will help you forget that. I think his feuds with Edge and Batsta prove my point though

Submission 6 - Only does one submission hold, but it's a finisher that has made the likes of HHH tap out

Technical 6 - He performs his moves well, but his main offense is brawling and his counters don't wow me.

Charisma 10 - Love him or hate him, no one draws more attention

Stamina 10 - This ties in with his durability, as he can take all kinds of punishment for any period of time and still have the energy to pick up the win

Overall (Avg) - 8.5

Strength
10 - Like Mantis pointed out, Cena at WrestleMania 25 lifting both Edge and Big Show at the same time. Also lifted the likes of Henry, Umaga and I believe Viscera at some point.

Durability
Again, it receives a 10, whether you see it as a positive or negative he always seems to muster up the strength to make a comeback before landing the AA

Speed
I'll give this one an 8.5, for a heavyweight he's pretty quick

Hardcore
I'm going to say 9, has took the likes of Edge, in his specialty match, TLC, to the limit, the I Quit Matches with JBL, Orton and Batista have shown how far he's willing to go to win, as well as using a steel chain to choke out JBL at ONS: Extreme Rules '08.

Submission
6.5 for this one, clearly not the greatest of submission wrestlers but has made the likes of Triple H and Batista amongst others tap out.
Technical

5, basic with his counters but he's more of the brawler type.

Charisma
10, whether you're a Cena hater or Cena lover he oozes charisma, one of the best mic workers in the business

Stamina
Don't know how he does it, but he does, 10, can wrestle a long match, just go back to the first Bragging Rigths event when he wrestled Orton for an hour when they just kept on going.

8.625 (Average)

Strength ill give him 10... anybody able to lift Big Show and Edge at the same time must be strong.

Stamina yeah ok 10... 60 minute match vs HBK in England was proof.

Durability 10 again for the same reason as above as well as the points below.

His submission move wouldnt even make a child tap out so he gets a 1 for submission.

Charisma... meh, 3. Same old shouty promos week in week out making crappy jokes.

The rest are 1's and 2's...

Strength= 10 Wrestlemania 20 FU's the Big Show nuff said

Durability= 10 Cena for years now continues to work with injuries without seriously breaking down

Speed = 7.5 Not the fastest or slowest in certain matches he does move better than his lighter opponents

Hardcore = 10 Getting thrown into a spotlight by Big Show and showing up on RAW and competing 24 hrs later is hardcore

Submission = 7 HHH, HBK tap out at back to back WM's plus he has intensity when he applies the STFU

Technical = 5.5 Hogan didn't know the difference between a wristlock and a wristwatch - Gorilla Monsoon but Cena knows the difference and is better than Hogan & Warrior combined

Charisma = 11 yes I just went to Spinal Tap simply because I've seen grown ass men yell some vulgar things at him then when the shows over BEG for his autograph. Cena just laughs it off and jokes with the haters and signs the autographs

Stamina = 8 I give him an 8 because it depends on his opponent you'll never see him in a 20 minute match with Mark Henry but you will see him in one with Punk or Orton

Strength: 10
For obvious reasons. He's had almost literally the weight of the world on his shoulders, and there's no denying his brute strength. As the ones above me said, WM 25 should be all the proof you need, but it seems like he can put anyone or anything up there.

Durability: 10
He takes a lot of punishment most of the time, but is always right in any match until the end. Rarely injured, or fights through it if he is. Can take just about anything that anyone can dish out, including the biggest guys in the business.

Speed: 7.5
He's no cruiserweight or high flyer, but he moves pretty fast for his height/weight/build.

Hardcore: 8.5
At first I thought this rating might be a little too high, but he unquestionably one of the best brawlers in the biz, and he can get pretty hardcore whe he needs to. His feuds with Edge and JBL were pretty rough in my opinion.

Submission: 6
Toughest category to rate for him in my opinion. He's definitely not your standard submission wrestler, yet one of his finishers is a submission move. It's pretty lethal when he locks it in. Just about anyone will tap out, sometimes more than once (Batista).

Technical: 7
I'm admittedly a big Cena fan, so I may give him too much credit here, but I think people are a little too tough on him in this department. He throws in the occasional technical move with his brawling style, although Mantis is correct about his counters.

Charisma: 10
Again, a no-brainer. One of the best in the biz cuurently (if not THE best), on the mic. Has charisma to spare.

Stamina: 10
Ties in with durability, has shown the ability to always make a comeback, always have something left, always be able to get into a position to win at the end. Always something left in the tank no matter how much of a beating he's taken.

Average: 8.625

Strength 10 - He's lifted Big Sow and Edge at the same time, he's flipped Great Khali also.

Durability 10 - He's impressed me a lot with his long matches, usually in every PPV he's in, even in main events on tv shows.

Speed 7 - He looks fast at times, but in all honestly, he's not that fast, though he does moves quickly.

Hardcore 7 - Nobody should argue with this, before the PG Era, Cena was very extreme in his matches, especially against HHH, JBL, Edge, RVD, and even Randy Orton at times.

Submission 4 - He does one good submission to perfection, but he's not anywhere near at a perfect level of submission.

Technical 4 - He fails a lot when trying chain grapple, his jean shorts won't allow it and he's just overall not a technical wrestler, despite his fisherman's suplex and gutwrench suplex.

Charisma 10 - Arguably the most charismatic wrestler in all of professional wrestling today. He's know for his charisma more than his wrestling.

Stamina 9.5 - He doesn't tire out easily like most wrestlers, but he's not perfect at keeping his stamina up in matches.

Strength- 10, hes lifted Edge and the Big Show at the same time and even the mountain that is big daddy viscera

Durability- 10, hes hardly ever taken a serious injury despite all of the rough matches he worked with people like Batista, HHH etc

Speed- 8 for a 200+ pounder he moves fairly fast

Hardcore- 8 same as above before things went PG Cena was very extreme, he took a dive through a spotlight, hit the AA on Batista through a car and so on

Submission-6 he does 1 submission move but when he locks it in it barely ever fails and hes locked it in on some fairly huge guys

Technical-5 hes a brawler not a wrestler, focuses mainly on brute strength and huge impact moves

Charisma- 10 love him or hate him he still gets you to talk about him doesn't he? Hes the best on the mic and is actually kinda funny while stayiing within the pg border

Stamina- 9 barely ever gets tired and can go through really long matches

Strength- 10 I don't think there can be any argument over this, the guy has been built on his feats of strength.

Durability- 8 Difficult to say really, he's booked to be durable but always managed to get injured during a match, before the ridiculous recovery.

Speed- 7 Reasonably quick but compared to most other faces he looks a bit sluggish.

Hardcore- 7 Dishes it out more than he gets it

Submission-3 Terrible. He's got only 1 submission move, it looks weak and consequently makes everyone who taps out to it look bad.

Technical-5 I've seen him try to show he properly "wrestle" and it's not convincing. He still can't transition from move to move smoothly after all this time.

Charisma- 6 Massively overrated on the mic by people who've forgotten what good mic work sounds like. Quiet voice/Bad joke/loud voice/intensity * Yawn *

Stamina- 9 Seems pretty solid but then he hardly does a lot to tire himself out.

55/80

6.875/10

Strength 10 Easy one. He's AA the Big Show and lifted both Show and Edge simultaneously.

Durability 10 The Superman gimmick he does works well. He looks pretty much fine after his matches.

Speed 7 I would say he's about average or slightly above for a guy with his build.

Hardcore 8 He can go hardcore when he needs to and does it well.

Submission 6 He's not a submission specialist but he has one that works.

Technical 5 Cena is not a technician. But his wrestling style is still superb.

Charisma 10 One of the most charismatic wrestlers of all time.

Stamina 10 He's had hour long matches (HBK, Orton) and he's kept up in them.

Total: 8.25

  • Strength He's a 10 as others have stated.... He is crazy strong...
  • Durability Sadly this is a 10 as well, as he magically transforms to "super cena" at times... It's annoying, but its apparently what the WWE wants him to do..
  • Speed He's a 5 at speed... Hes average at best... He's faster than the kane's/Mark Henry's of the world... but hes slower than the Chavo's/Sin Cara's as well... He's about in the middle..
  • Hardcore I'll give him a 6 or a 7 on this one... He can get hardcore if needed, but as the face it's very rare for him to initiate it...
  • Submission I'll give him a 6 on this as well... He's got the STF(U) but that's about it... I'm not going to give him higher based on the fact that he has one submission move he uses...
  • Technical He's a 6 again on the technical skill... Yes he has the "5 moves of doom" but if you go back to his early matches, he has done well before without them... He's a pretty good technical wrestler if he wants to be with good timing...
  • Charisma Needless to say it's a 10.. Whether he's booed or cheered he gets A reaction regardless... The crowd is always doing something when he's entering/in the ring.. There are few that get the reaction he does currently in the wwe..
  • Stamina Does this really need to be here??? Well it's a 10 based on how he's booked because he does not EVER give up/get tired... this is just booking though...

Strength: 10
Obviously, a guy who can lift Show and Edge together, Mark Henry, Viscera, Batista (seriously, he's big) has to get a 10. Plus, he has thrown Khali off a bulldozer (if I'm not mistaken). Imagine that.

Durability: 10
He's wrestled in the WWE for 9 years now with only 2 injuries that kept him out. Once, he came out way too early (Royal Rumble) and the second, was out for just 4 months. Other than that, he's got no injury or as someone said, has worked through it.

Speed: 8
He's pretty quick for a 240 pound guy. He's faster than most of his 240- opponents. If you have any doubts, look at when he hits the shoulder blocks.

Hardcore: 9
He's no Mick Foley nor is he a Steve Austin. But that guy can be hardcore at times. Well, most of his matches are PG-rated hardcore stuff. His entire fued with Batista and Edge, I Quit matches with Orton and Miz, Parking Lot Brawl with JBL and WM 22 and 23 with HHH and HBK respectively are examples.

Submission: 7
People giving him 6 are being far too rude to him. I know he ain't a submission specialist, but the guy has one of the meanest and painful submission manuevers in the WWE. When he gets into full intensity, it looks as if he's going to snap his opponent's head from his body.

Technical: 6
Again, he's no Chris Benoit or Shawn Michaels but he has some good moves in his arsenal.

Charisma: 10
Love him or hate him, he's the one who gets a reaction even if nobody on the show does. Heat or pop, he gets it.

Stamina: 10
It ain't easy to hang out with a 40+ guy for an hour. Nuff said.

Average: 8.75

Strength 10
Durability 10
Speed 7
Hardcore 7
Submission 9
Technical 7
Charisma 9
Stamina 10

I rated Cena's strength and durability as his highest stats because his strength legitimately is through the roof and his moments of coming back after a beatdown in virtually every match show how much he can endure, same goes for stamina. He's not the fastest or the more technical, but he (kayfabe) can keep up with those who are better in those areas.

Overall: 8.625

Sir John Cena. My ratings are as such.

•Strength- I'd have to give him a 10 in this department. He lifts huge opponents on his shoulder and throws them down, and some of those F-Us that he did on two opponents at one time is straight crazy.

•Durability- I will not include "SuperCena" in this because that is storyline. His durability as far as real life injuries has to be high because he isn't injury often. I'd give him an 8 because he has had some injuries, just not that many when you think of how long he has been in the main event picture.

•Speed- Considering his size, his speed is great, but on a scale of 1-10 when compared to the entire WWE landscape, it would merit a 7 in my book.

•Hardcore- This is another rating that is hard for me to rate because of "SuperCena" but with that aside, he can take an incredible amount of pain, I just don't see him as that hardcore because in this day in age, guys who would get a 10 in my book, guys like Mankind, Sabu, a lot of those ECW originals, Cena doesn't stand a chance. So I'd say 6

•Submission- Seeing how one of his moves is a submission move, he deserves a decent score but he doesn't have a very complex submission moveset nor does he face opponents who specialize in submissions, so it's hard to see him as a top submission guy without him facing top guys. I say 7.

•Technical- His lowest grade yet. I'm including selling in technical because it's a great part of the overall performance, and Cena struggles in this department. He doesn't do moves as crisp as they should be, and neither are his reversals. His score here is 4.

•Charisma- John Cena is very charismatic, if you like him or not. He has great mic skills, and he is great with the WWE fans, even if you just count the women and children. This has got to be a high 9.

•Stamina- Yet another stat altered by "SuperCena" but still, he isn't burnt out during any match as far as I've seen, and he always has the stamina to FU his opponent to end the match, so I say 8.

Total score: 59

Grade: 7.375

I feel like 10s should only be given to the top of the top in each category, and Cena deserves to be at the top in strength, and he is very close to top in other categories like Charisma. I don't think anyone active in the WWE right now will score a 7.375 like Cena, but considering the entire history of the WWE, I think that's about where I personally picture Cena. I look at it like this, if I were making a realistic rating system for the entire WWE history in it's prime, The highest would possibly be between 89-91, and Cena would be a 74. Just my personal opinion.
