Ranking the Current PPVs

I'm neat.
Read: This is Non Spam. Don't include just lists.

I have decided that my next project for my WWE threads would be to rank each current PPV by firstly its importance as well as the overall action that you see in the PPVs. Feel free to comment, to argue, and create your own lists. So without further ado...

1) Wrestlemania

Wrestlemania is and will always be that top PPV. It has the history, the magic, and the special atmosphere that makes it to the top of the list. The feuds that are in this PPV are reserved for the PPV because of the star power and quality of the matches. The show is always something to see and it usually has the best build-up to any PPV. I think that it is what defines the WWE and it is the thing that people look forward to each year. It is quality wrestling to see, and is something everyone should see once in their life.

2)SummerSlam
Although recently I have found that Summerslam has taken a dip when it comes to quality it still makes it as number two on my list. I think that this is because of how hyped it is, as well as the general effort they put into it. It being about 6 months after Wrestlemania also allows it to be something people can look forward. It also marks the end of Summer and it to me is as part of Summer as the Fourth of July. I think that it is a fun spectacle and it is always something to look forward to at the end of the summer PPV schedule.

3) Royal Rumble

I think in most people's mind that this is exactly where Royal Rumble should be. The Royal Rumble is a very prestigious thing and it allows for the Mania season to officially kick off. I think that the history that has been put into the Rumble has allowed it to become an interesting staple in the wrestling fans mind. I personally very much enjoy it and it is the one event that always seems fresh. It is a once in a year experience and the freshness of the PPV hlps make it number three. Also, you can always expect two pretty good title matches, as well as a glorified divas match. It simply does not have the draw that the other two have, however it is still a very fun PPV to watch.

4)Money In the Bank

So now is where I think there is room for debate. Money in the Bank to me deserves the number four spot. Why? Because of its interesting concept as well as its overall impact on wrestling. You have two ladder matches for the contract to a title match whenever you want. The winners of this match have the BEST on-screen time after the PPV. This is because they have the key to change in their briefcase. The matches held at this PPV are generally very well done as well as you having the dangerous yet thrilling MITB matches. I personally love this PPV for its unpredicatability as well as its overall awesomeness in the middle of summer. This is the PPV that I have been looking forward to. I think that it doesn't have the importance as the previous three however it beats out Elimination by a tad.

5) Elimination Chamber

This is one scary match. An elimination chaber match may be the most volatile match in the entire WWE. You have people get smashed on the chains of the chamber. You have people go through the "glass" of the pods. There is chaos and it makes for some sweet matches. This PPV helps set up Wrestlemania as it is the go home PPV to the big one. You always have interesting storylines that are devolped throgh this PPV as well as the arrival of new storylines that emerge inside the chamber. It is generally an important PPV because of its intersting storylines as well as its connection to Mania. This PPV is very intriguing to watch as well it also shows the violence and the madness that appear throghout the WWE. The reaosn why it is not higher as its overall importance is slightly less then the ones above it.

6) Survivor Series

This was a tough one to put right here considering that it is now at the point where all the PPVs are pretty even. Survivor Series is in this position because of its historical importance. This was one of the Big 4 PPVs, but due to recent booking of this PPV it has dropped in my eyes out of the Big 4. This PPV has decent matches with the idea of having Elimination Tag Matches being featured. This PPV has decent action as wll as decent build-up however it itself is nothing that spectacular. However it does have some better build-up and draws then the following PPVs so that is why it is placed at sixth. It doesn't have the interest nor the importance in today's WWE world to be placed any higher.

7) Extreme Rules

I absolutely love Extreme Rules. Some have said that it is Wrestlemania with weapons. The matches are all very well done. The extremeness of it is well lacking these days however it is an interesting watch. I think that this PPV gets overshadowed by the Wrestlemania and the recycled storylines make this PPV suffer a bit. This PPV however is very fun to watch and also sets the tone for the summer. This PPV has been used as th last PPV before the draft so it also adds to the fact that this is the last time you will see these people on this draft. Possibly. I think that this PPV has lots of viewing fun, however its importance is lacking, and it being after Mania makes it at number seven.

8) Night of Champions

Historically speaking this PPV should be higher then what I have it at. However since it is current this PPV is where it is. The concept of every title on the line works except now that would be only a six match card, which is why they included last year, a non title match. I think people have generally lost interest in this concept because of the lack of titles. However, still there is always the possibily of a change in the titles which adds to the interest. WWe always has a decent build-up to this PPV however it just is lacking the firepower it once had. It is one of those PPVs which you watch but you don't always enjoy now a days. However it has history and is more fun and has some importance which has it sitting pretty at eight.

9) TLC

So now we are at the point where I am really deliberating what goes where. I think that TLC is number nine because it ends the PPV season and instead transfers us into the Mania season. The concept of tables ladders and chairs is something that people enjoy watching and the added bonus of having violent matches attracts people. With that being said this PPV almost seems forced. The concept of having to have TLC or a component of it matches makes me lose interest in the overall concept. It also has been a somewhat predicatable PPV for me and has never really had much importance in the grand scheme of things. However because it is fun to watch and not totally ruining a concept I think it is safe at number nine.

10) Over the Limit

This is just one one of those PPV's that nobody really cares to much about, and its sole purpose is to be a filler PPV to continue with the trend. It has very little importance, little build-up. However what does it have, goodquality matches. I have always been happy with Over the Limit because of its good matches. Also it has an interesting flow to it. This PPV ends the Mania season and begins the Road to Sumemrslam. I think overall it is just kind of there. It's not bad, however nothing special. Personally I thougt this year's PPV was good however is it something I see WWE keeping for a while no. Especially considering its piss poor buyrates.

11) Hell in a Cell

This PPV has no real reason except to tarnish what was once a gruesome and violent match. It also starts the slow and tiredsome winter Fall-Winter PPVs. I honestly find no interst now in this PPV because of how bad the Hell in a Cell aspect of this PPV is. It is something that I have lost interest in, and always seems to be lackluster. I don't like this PPV and I don't enjoy it at all.

New PPVs which haven't Happened Predicitions

Capitol Punishment and Vengeance are the two scheduled PPVs which have never happened before. I have very low expectations for them both considering the matches/build-up to this years is just decent. I hope to be greatly changed in my thoughts however I just don't see these being special.

Vengeance has happened before.

Yes it has however that was simply to replace the name Armeggedon. This was due to the fact that after the 9/11 bombings the WWE thought that it would be inappropriate to have the name Armeggedon. Later on, Vengeance became connected to Night of Champions then later dropped from the name. The reason why I included it in the not happened section is that the WWE have called it several things leading up to it being callled Vengeance which leads me to believe it will not necessarily be a rehash of what it already was.

I agree with your top 3.

But the rest of them straight up suck and arent memorable. Sure survivor series was great years ago but it sucks now. Theres no hype for it. Elimination Chamber only gets hype because its a No Way Out rip off.....which is a good thing but i still dont want to pay for it anymore.

Everything else can go die. I honestly dont understand why people pay for that shit. (I actually do know why/little kids/adults buying it for them). But whatever.

I'm glad you agree with something. Now to address your points/Complaints.

Here's my question to you, do you actually watch them?

Elimination Chamber is No Way Out, it's not a rip-off it just what it is. They simply renamed it. Survivor Series is not what it once was however it still is an interesting PPV.

And your final point, is everything else can disappear. Hmm so that would be 5 PPV per year. I guess that is doable but your reason is because their shit. I disagree with that entirely. There are several great matches that happen. However saying everything is dumb just shows that you're just another smarky complainer.

You do know that there were 7 Armageddon PPV's after 2001, right?

Totally disagree with your assessment of EC. The winner of the chamber has the key to change as well. Who saw Edge losing a title and winning another in the same night? The MITB PPV, to me, is unnecessary and should have stayed at WM.

I agree that they have the key to change however, they don't have the unpredictability factor that the MITB holders have. I think that the WWE audience would rather see Raw and Smackdown much more when the MITB briefcases are in play which adds to its importance. I agree with you that Elimination Chamber has had some shocking moments: Edge losing then winning, Michaels costing Taker title however these moments aren't as cool as MITB's unpredictable style.

I guess it's just a matter of personal prefrence though. I prefer ladder matches which enhances MITB. EC was close for me but I enjoyed watching MITB better,

1. Wrestlemania
Obviously this is the best, it always has the biggest feuds and matchups.

2. Summerslam
Wrestlemania on a smaller scale during summer.

3. Royal Rumble
It kicks off the year as well as the road to Wrestlemania, and an annual tradition few want to miss out on.

4. Survivor Series
It has lost prestige, but it is still considered one of the Big 4.

5. Night of Champions
Every title on the line at once. This is on track to becoming the biggest show out of ones that aren't in the Big 4.

6. Elimination Chamber
It helps set up the Wrestlemania main events and the chamber is always a chance for a great swerve.

7. TLC
Four interesting gimmicks in one, makes for a show I'll always look forward to.

8. Money In the Bank
I'd still prefer that it goes on as a Wrestlemania match, but it will quickly gain some prestige as its own PPV.

9. Over the Limit
It's had some good cards, compared to most of the new and themed PPV's. The good cards it's hard earns it this ranking for me.

10. Hell In a Cell
This show takes away from the special feeling and importance these matches once had, but it is interesting enough to keep around.

I did not include the other 2 or 3 because not only do they not matter in comparison but they are not necessary either. This is how the PPV's rank in importance at this moment to me. It is always subject to change, although I don't think my mind will change all that much on this topic.

1) Wrestlemania - Grandaddy of em all

2) Royal Rumble - Decides who goes to WM and the fact that it's been unpredictable for the last few years makes it more exciting

3) Summerslam - Considered the WM of the summer but the main events of the show have really been lacking credibility for the last few years. Back in the day the main events had meaning. They just seem to throw anybody against each other now.

4) Survivor Series - Lost prestige but still one of the big 4

5) Money In The Bank - The WWE's next big star comes out of this one and the fact you don't know when & where the winner will cash in makes it exciting

6) Elimination Chamber - To determine who goes onto WM and even though the match has been lackluster the last few years, still an awesome concept

7) Extreme Rules - Wrestlemania Revenge show and unlike the other PPV's, has different hardcore stips for every match on the card

8) Over The Limit - It only has I Quit matches for it's main events but it seems to be the only PPV to end feuds that start off at Mania ala Cena vs. Batista, Miz vs. Cena. Hopefully they have someone other than Cena in the main event next year cause with Cena there, you're guranteed that he will win and it will just get boring that way.

9) TLC - Like the fact they use a Chair, Table, Ladder & TLC matches to make up 4 completely different matches and it's there to end the year on a high note before Mania season kicks off again.

10) Night Of Champions - Every title on the line, big woop but nothing to really fret over. It's just a normal show really just with every title on the line.

11) Hell in a Cell - Lost so much prestige, no one cares anymore and they don't deliver good HIAC matches anymore.

I'll be honest, I only purchase 2...maybe 3 PPVs during a year: Royal Rumble and Night of Champions. Occasionally wrestlemania or less often summerslam, if the card looks good. Outside of night of champions and what are considered the "big 4", the rest of the regular monthly pay per views are all interchangeable filler to me, so to be fair I can't really rank any of them.

I do have to say though that night of champions is really high on my list. I have not yet purchased a night of champions and then been disappointed afterwards, like I have with wrestlemania. I'd even go so far as to say that the 2010 night of champions was certainly better than the 2010 wrestlemania. I would also say that the 2010 night of champions was better than the 2011 wrestlemania (which I didn't purchase but read about afterwards).

So if I were to rank, based on interest I have going into the event, and how often afterwards that I've felt like the purchase was worth it, I'd have to probably say:

1. Royal Rumble (despite usual predictability in the winners, still fun to watch).
2. Night of Champions (consistently quality matches, and usually at least a few titles change hands but not always easy to predict which ahead of time).
3. Wrestlemania (been pretty lackluster lately but before that has been decent).
4. Summerslam (don't usually purchase but often have had mild interest in a match or two ahead of time).

Then probably a two mile gap between #4 and #5:

5. Everything else.

And yes, I lump survivor series in with everything else. I can't remember the last time I was interested in an actual survivor series PPV. Even though it's a big 4, the card is usually nothing better than one of the miscellaneous monthly filler PPVs.

1. Wrestlemania - the grand daddy of them all. Although some Wrestlemania cards have been not as good as others, EVERY Wrestlemania has at least 1 match that makes it worth the money to buy. WM27 was pretty good and HHH vs Taker was EPIC. And all the other Wrestlemania's have that one match that makes its mark. WM10 has Razor Ramon and HBK, WM3 has Ricky Steamboat and Randy Savage (God rest his soul), WM25 has Undertaker and HBK, and so on. Wrestlemania just has that epic feel to it, that no other WWE ppv delivers.

2. Summerslam - Summerslam is basically a watered down version of WM in the summer. Most Summerslam's have had good cards. Although last years was just meh. But Summerslam has delivered some great matches over the years: my faves being British Bulldog vs Bret Hart 92', HBK vs HHH 02', and TLC 2 at 00'. Summerslam is a very good summer tradition for me every summer.

3. Royal Rumble - The thing that is great about the royal rumble is that, it is basically the starting point of the WM season. And the royal rumble match is awesome every year. I really cant think of a single bad rumble match. My all time favorite is Royal Rumble 2002. Don't know why, I just love it. Royal Rumble is a great ppv every year.

4. TLC - I know it's a little bit high on the list, but I just LOVE TLC matches, ladder matches, and table matches. I think that the TLC match is my favorite WWE match. I like how on the ppv's the have table, ladder, chair, and of course TLC matches. Its a little higher than other ppl put it. But hey, everyone has their own opinion.

5. Money in the Bank - I love the MITB ladder match. But I think im also the only person that thought the ppv was better idea than just having it at Mania every year. Now don't get me wrong, I loved ALL the MITB matches at Mania's 21-26. But I like the idea of having 2 MITB matches. One from Raw and one from Smackdown. I love the match and I love the ppv.

6. Survivor Series - - I think the concept is getting stale. Rant if you will, but I think Survivor Series is kind of over rated. I love the ppv don't get me wrong, but seriously, who wants 3 to 4 elimination tag matches being the focus of the ppv? It just doesn't make much since. Anyway, I do like Survivor Series. It has had some excellent matches such as: the very first elimination chamber match. I think SS is good.

7.Elimination Chamber - - I don't like this one being a ppv. I LOVE the match but I just don't think it should be a ppv. Besides that, it does make a good set up for feuds for Mania. And the Raw one this year was really good. So good ppv. Not bad. But not great

8.Extreme Rules - I like the concept. But it never lives up to what it says it is....Extreme. When I think of Extreme I think of the ORIGINAL ECW with Sabu, RVD, and good ol Cactus Jack. But it's never that type of Extreme. Its PG extreme.....thats bout it. Quality of the matches are ok. But the title is mis leading

9.Night of Champions - Am I the only one that thinks this pp concept is kind of lame? I mean. PPV's always have the big championship matches. And I like to have non title matches as well. So having a ppv with only title matches just doesnt click for me.

10.Over the Limit - FILLER....nuff said

11.Hell in a Cell - this ppv has completely destroyed one of my favorite matches. Thats why its at the bottom.

I may be alone in this but here's my personal rankings:

1) Royal Rumble... it's my favorite every year, more or less. I often look forward to this much more than any other show.

2) Wrestlemania... in the second position because of it's prestige, but ultimately, I find it personally to be second behind the Rumble in terms of what I, myself want to see.

3) Summerslam... the Summer's Wrestlemania and honestly, aside from the fact that it's not held in front of huge 70,000 seat stadiums, it's more or less the same type of show, just an hour shorter and without the celebrity involvement.

4) Survivor Series... will always manage to be a part of the "Big 4" for me. It may not be what it once was, but at least when I watch it, I feel there's potential for a "big 4" moment that you just don't feel when watching other shows. Still amazed at how Vince wanted to can this back to back years instead of just doing a better job booking it. Hopefully with Bragging Rights gone, Raw vs. Smackdown! will give Survivor Series a reason for still happening. And with it 5th in buys for the year in 2010, they'd be insane to get rid of it.

5) TLC... always kind of interesting because I'm a sucker for ladder matches and it's one of the few gimmick PPV's that's seemed to deliver as of late.

6) Money in the Bank... see above for the ladder match and last years Money in the Bank was easily one of the most unpredictable, entertaining events of the year. I see this becoming a favorite.

7) Elimination Chamber... the chamber doesn't have the interest it once did, but I still think the Chamber is one of the "hardcore" style matches that still works brutally well in the PG Era because you can have innovative offense and high-flying (see John Morrison) or straight up brutality (Kane, McIntyre) and a mix of good wrestling all in the middle of it.

Everything else is hit or miss, depending on the card.

Hell in A Cell doesn't work for me anymore. Hell in a Cell doesn't feel "special" anymore. It's a standard NO DQ match inside a Cell that is very rarely used as a weapon. Should probably be dropped.

Night of Champions is a crock. With just 6 titles, they had to resort to having a non-title match at Night of Champions last year. In addition, shortly after Night of Champions which is billed as the only night of the year when all WWE titles are on the line, all 6 titles were defended in one night at the Survivor Series. This is another PPV that should be canned.

Extreme Rules has a title that's living in the past and with nothing extreme about it, it's just a disappointment. I prefer the Backlash theme after Wrestlemania which worked fine.
