Randy Orton has gone AWOL

Occasional Pre-Show
It's been weeks since we've seen Randy Orton on Smackdown. I know that Smackdown is considered the "B" show but, Randy Orton is the WWEWHC. There is no reason what so ever that I can see that you don't have your champion, your "face of the company" not on your show regardless of its ranking. Does anybody else see this as an issue? Or should it not make a difference?

This is one of the reasons for which I do not like the unification of the title. If there were two different champs, one with the WHC and the other with the WWE, you probably wouldn't have minded if only one of the two were to show up on Smackdown. There could be other reasons as to why he wasn't there. Maybe he is resting up or has other matters to attend to. Can you imagine Orton on the Main Event though? This might be for the better because other wrestlers who won't get time on RAW get to wrestle on Smackdown and have a chance to steal the show. Personally, I would love it if things went back to the heated rivalry between smackdown superstars and raw superstars. If I remember correctly, I believe in alll the Bragging Rights PPVs that happened, the Smackdown team won all of them.

A world champion has not appeared on Smackdown in for fucking ever, way, way before the title got unified. This is not something new, and not something worth making a thread over to complain about the titles getting unified. Smackdown doesn't matter and hasn't mattered in well over a year.

It doesn't bother me that the"A" belt isn't on the "B" show. You wouls think however this would leave plenty of time for your "B" titles. Where the hell is the US title? Does creative even remember who has it?

RAW is three hours long. Smackdown is two hours long.

RAW gets the A material. Smackdown gets the rest of the alphabet.

RAW progresses storylines. Smackdown shows clips of RAW.

I actually sat through Smackdown last time. The most significant development was that Dolph Ziggler is in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

Randy Orton showing up and cutting a promo would have been fun, but I don't look at his absence as a sign that he may be falling out of favor with the higher ups.

Smackdown! starts with a recap of Raw, and shows further recaps all throughout the show. Every week. When was the last time you saw Raw recapping anything that happened on Smackdown! the week before? Other than a passing mention from the announcers.

Raw is the 'A' show. It's the flagship. Smackdown! isn't the 'B' Show, that's Main Event, but it's not the flagship either. It's somewhere in between.

But...again, we need to remember that title belts are props. It's crazy to me that I've had to explain this three times in the last week or so. They're not real things. It's no different than JBL's cowboy hat, or Jerry Lawler's crown, or Damien Sandow's robe. They don't have any actual real meaning or value. And, no, their lack of value isn't because the WWE doesn't care about them...the WWE doesn't care about them because of their lack of value. And, no, there's not anything they can do about that. It's a terminal condition. When WWE stopped being real, so did the title belts.

It doesn't matter if the WWE WHC is on Smackdown!, or if the US or IC champions are on Smackdown!, or if the Diva's or Tag Team Champions are on Smackdown! because none of the championships matter. You need to look at which wrestlers are on the show, independent of what props they have around their waist or over their shoulder. That's all that matters. And the wrestlers that are on Smackdown! every week are consistent with it being an A-/B+ show.

I think people need to get over the idea of Smackdown being anything more than an experimental ground. You don't want anything significant to happen on Smackdown. It's a way for WWE to make more money and guys to get their reps in. Whether or not Orton is on Smackdown, ratings don't change much.

I agree much like Cena.Lesnar, and Triple H as well. You should not use legendary status as an excuse to skip shows mainly when your the world champ unless your name is Hulk Hogan,Undertaker,Ric Flair themselves their or no excuse. If your body is so banged up that you can't work Smackdown it's called retirement. In Orton's case he's not.In Cena's case after WM 31 or 32 he should just go part-time but do Royal Rumble,Wrestlemania,Extreme Rules,MITB,Summerslam,Survivor Series unless he's champ he should do full year.Batista is the only one appearing on all the show's and actually competing every week. But he is the one getting booed.

Smackdown was great from about 2001 to 2007. Since then, and especially since it's not on network TV, it's been garbage...literally. You get to see RAW re-hashes, RAW re-matches, continuations of mid-card storylines that no one cares about, predictable match outcomes...and the occasional upper card storyline, stress on occasional. They might as well stick their Friday show on the Network; it may get more views then.

Other than very rare occasions Cena and Punk never worked Smackdown, but most of the rest of the roster did. This last show had no Orton, no Batista, no Bryan, no Sheamus and of course no Cena, but it did have Triple H and The shield furthering their angles.

To me WWE approach Smackdown on a week to week basis, if there is any storyline stuff they didn't have time for on Raw then it will overflow into SD and you get a bit extra, on other occasions you just get a bunch of good wrestling matches, which suits me.

It's probably not worth it for the WWE. After SummerSlam, Randy and Daniel were on Smackdown every week. There was no increase in viewers, so why keep them working it?
