Legendary pro wrestling manager Captain Lou Albano died this morning, MTV.com is reporting.

Albano, who was sent home from the hospital earlier this week and place under hospice care, was 76 years old.

Albano is best known to non-wrestling fans as the father in Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" video. That helped kick off the Rock 'n Wrestling connection that launched the then-WWF to national prominence in the 1980s.

Man, this is sad, sad news. Captain Lou was an icon of the golden age of wrestling, and arguably the greatest manager of all time (I'm sure some people could make the argument for Jim Cornette or The Grand Wizard). I'll always remember his absolutely insane promos from the 80s, someone should put together a compilation of them all and watch them drunk. I imagine the laughter would be never-ending.

Poor Lou, you'll be missed man. 'Tis what happens to us all though, we grow old and eventually die.

RIP Lou Albano.

I actually had the great fortune of meeting Capt Lou about 6 months ago, because he was close friends with the family that owns the pizzeria near my job. He was very friendly, and could go on for hours with stories about wrestling.

I loved watching him as a manager, and he should go down as one of the greatest ever.

RIP Captain...

This is a real loss...

The guy was the personification of wrestling management in the early 1980's. Whether he was a heel or a babyface, you LOVED seeing Lou on your television. He was the most beloved, ugly man that I had ever heard of. He dressed ridiculously, always had his eyes wide open, but loud and obnoxious promos, and managed some of the craziest looking mother fuckers from the early 80's WWE.

He will forever be associated with Cyndi Lauper, rubber bands, Jews, Hawaiian shirts, and man-boobs.

Captain Lou, you will be missed.

I loved his crazy promos also. You could tell he was really into his promos and the intensity he brought into them made his character: a bad ass, come to life.

My favorite memory of him actually wasn't anything dealing with the ring. While he was a very charismatic performer, I will always remember him for his role in Back to School with Rodney Dangerfield. I remember a scene when Dangerfield was getting into some trouble with some of the college kids and Captain Lou Albano grabbed a metal napkin dispenser a crushed it with one hand. He was so funny in that movie as Rodney's bodyguard and he was a perfect embodiment of his wrestling character: a bad ass with a bad temper.

You're not serious about this, are you? That wasn't Lou Albano... it was Burt Young! The same guy that played Paulie in the Rocky movies.

Wow... that was funny...

Lou Albano's only on-screen roles were as follows:

Capitalizing on his new found celebrity, Albano began appearing in a vast array of television and film projects. Throughout the late eighties, Albano appeared in Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n' Wrestling, 227, Miami Vice, Hey Dude, Brian De Palma's Wiseguys and the 1987 wrestling movie Body Slam. Expanding into music, Albano managed and performed with rockers NRBQ. He was immortalized in the song "Captain Lou" on their Lou and the Q album. Albano also periodically appeared on the John Davidson version of Hollywood Squares.

In March 1989, on Live with Regis and Kathie Lee, Albano had his trademark beard shaved on the air in order to star as the iconic video game character Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!. Along with Danny Wells, he co-starred in live action segments during interludes of the Mario cartoon, as well as providing the voice of his animated counterpart.

In 1993 Albano appeared in the John Ritter film Stay Tuned as the ring announcer for a wrestling match of the "Underworld Wrestling Federation" pitting Ritter and Pam Dawber's characters against two demonic wrestlers.

i don't have that many memories of Captain Lou but whenever i would watch some old tapes from the 80's and saw him come to the ring with whatever team he was managing at the time you could always tell by the look in his eyes that he truly loved pro wrestling and he maybe not the best manger but he is in the top 5 and he will be greatly missed but his memories will live on in his fans
RIP CAPTAIN LOU ALBANO

When I was a kid, I watched the Super Mario show, just because Lou WAS Mario, and I loved him in the WWF cartoon, too. He was my favorite manager, although I never had the opportunity to see him as a heel manager.

Wow, so weird. The other day me and my friend were reminiscing about his days on the Mario Bros Super Show. Him not being a wrestling fan, I had to explain to him that Cpt. Lou was so much more than just Super Mario. He will truly be missed.

I loved his style and his character, neither are unparalleled to this day. Even as the Headshrinkers manager he exuded greatness.

PS- Body Slam is a great movie!

When I was a kid, I absolutely loved this movie called Body Slam starring Roddy Piper, and Captain Lou Albano had a huge role in it as as a heel manager. He basically played himself, but he was still fucking great.

Anyway, unfortunately I missed most of his stuff in his prime. By the time I became a wrestling fan (around Wrestlemania 4), he wasn't really relevant. But still... if you didn't get a kick out of his old segments, then your taste and sense of humor sucks. He was obviously a great, great talent.

But you can't really mourn the death of the man. He had a very nice, long life, unlike many from his era, and I'm sure he accomplished more than anything he could have ever dreamed of. RIP.

Makes me really sad to hear that Lou Albano has moved on. :( I met him many times when I was younger and living in Florida. I use to goto his firework warehouse all the time. He was deffenitly one of the nicest human beings I have ever met.

From giving a little kid (me at the time) advise on how to break into the wrestling business if I really wanted to, to giving a poor family (my family had really bad finical problems for awhile) a few hundred dollars worth of fireworks for free so we could still enjoy our Fourth of July.

R.I.P. Cpt Lou. You will be greatly missed.

Lou was one of the reasons that Managers worked. He is also another reason why I say bring the managers back. Why? Let's face it folks, some of these wrestlers never EVER should be allowed to speak on the Mic. Lou was Charismatic and never afraid to take the lumps for his wrestlers, which is what makes for a good manager. The last I saw of him was at the HoF ceremony and he looked to be in good health so I hope and pray that he passed painlessly. I can't say he was the best manager ever, but he was one of the top five and nobody wore a rubber band quite like him. I have missed personalities like Lou for a long time and now that he's gone, it makes me miss those days even more.:worship:Goodbye Lou, you'll be missed.

capn lou was awesome. beyond all the wrestling accomplishments i grew up in NY in the same town he lived in. his local commercials were always funny. i also used to see him all around town and he couldn't have been any nicer. carmel, ny will definately miss him.

Lou Albano is by far one of the greatest managers of all time. His time with Cyndi Lauper, appearing in The Goonies music video and the "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" video, to the crazy rubber bands sticking to his cheek, to playing Mario in the Super Mario Bros. Super Show. He was awesome. I pulled off a list of everyone he managed and I must say, he should also be known as "The Hall of Fame Manager". There are tons of Hall of Famers that he managed. His promos were gold as well.

Capt Lou was the exact reason I loved Wrestling growing up as a kid, colorful and a hell of a character. Deserving a HOF and maybe 1 of the top 5 managers of all time with
Heenan/Hart/Fuji and Sherri. At least he got to enjoy a long life unlike to many these days that go way to young, RIP Capt Lou!

I will always remember Lou as one of the best managers of all time. My memories of him growing up was the Rock N Wrestling cartoon in the mid 80's, the music video with Cyndi Lauper, then he was Mario on the Super Mario Bros Super Show. I will remember his charisma and huge Impact that he made in this business. Capt. Lou thanks for the memories you will be missed!!

I started watching wrestling in 1984 and never rember The Capt. being heel. I bet he made a hell of a good heel though. I loved his charachter in the RnW cartoon although I am not sure if he actually did the voice or not as i no alot of the wrestlers didnt. The Goonies time has gotta be the greatest time of his career though I rember seeing this guy everywhere he was even on the local news. While Hogan deserves the credit for WM success Capt. Lou is very underated and unrecognized for all the advertisement he did to help build the RnW era. I dont rember if the movie hit before or after the first WM but I rember Lou was everywhere advertising the WWE when it did.

While I do regret I never actually got a chance to met the guy. He still is a icon in the golden ages of wrestling. There is not much to say really he will be missed and i hope his family and close friends and fans or doing well.

I unfortunately never had the pleasure to meet the man; but I can tell you that I respected him. He holds the record for managing the most tag team champions in wrestling history. The man knew wrestling like no other and was a professional inside that ring. From what I've been reading, he was a true gentleman outside the ring as well. He will truly be missed: R.I.P Captain Lou!!

While I never witnessed his glory days as manager, he was a major part of my growing up in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show. I have that show on DVD and still highly enjoy it. He was excellent in that role.

When I did research on stars from the past, I was immediately drawn to Captain Lou. He seemed so entertaining.

I also read The Complete Idiot's Guide to Professional Wrestling, which was co-authored by him. It was this that really taught me all my ancient wrestling history. Sure, it may have had a few mistakes, but it was still a good source of info.

RIP Captain Lou. You will be missed.

...

Do the Mario! Swing your arms from side to side...

I was just a bit young to enjoy the later years of the Albano years, but I did manage to catch a lot of his work on Colosseum Home Video. And I was certainly a fan of his very bizarre but honest representation of "Mario Mario" in none other than 'The Super Mario Brothers Super Show.'

RIP boss man, I'm checking the MTV music video site for your Cyndi Lauper video.

RIP Capt. Lou

I remember seeing him in a 6 man tag match w/ John Stud and Roddy Piper vs Bob Backlund,Andre the giant, and SuperFly Jimmy Snuka. Sunka jumped off Andre's shoulders and superfly splashed Capt.Lou. He hit him so hard Lou vomited in the ring. This was when Prism Cable channel broadcasted WWF events at the old Philly Spectrum. It was the only time I saw Albano actually wrestle.

Another great memory was when Piper beat the shit out of him,Cindi Luaper, and Dave whatever his last name was at MSG. Goodtimes..

Capt. Lou was an awesome manager and a good man. With a quick wit and grating personality he made the perfect manager. his promos sent the roof of the building so to speak. A true wrestling manager should study this man.

R.I.P Captain.

This is truly a sad day for both the wrestling world and the gaming world. I never met the man nor did I ever watch a match of his until today. I went back to Youtube and I can tell that he will be sorely missed. Rest In Piece, Lou.

I started watching wrestling in 85 when i was 3 years old I remember the days of Albano managing I even remember '' The Rock and Wrestling Connection '' Lou Albano I remember when he made his return in the WWF in the 90's as the manager of The Headshrinkers along with Afa Captain Lou Will be surely missed I think Albano put it best when he said Often immitated, but never duplicated and there will never be another Lou Albano R.I.P Lou Albano you will be surely missed by millions of your fans.
