Quantum Of Solace

Uncle Sam

Rear Naked Bloke
More of a letdown than The Dark Knight. Now I've got to wait two more years for another potentially shit sequel? Lame. The franchise has peaked too early - at the start.

The entire point of this movie was to see Craig as a more traditional Bond but he doesn't stop doing a Jeff Hardy (i.e. falling from tall objects) long enough for him to have more than, like, twelve lines of dialogue. Massive fuck up. The one scene where he wore a tux was fucking awesome too.

Not a bad film. Just decidedly average.

No offense Sam but what did you expect? Second time this year u go into a theatre thinking the movie was gonna be the greatest thing ever. Here is the point of the Dark Knight, to make a good story about Batman and the Joker. Here is the point of the James Bond movies, to show that the man can be witty and get out of unbelievable situations and almost get blown to bits mutliple times...now I have not seen Quantam of Solance yet (American) but Im pretty sure it fullfills its point with the whole James Bond saga. You cant go into a movie thinking it will be perfect or you will never enjoy it. Unless its Citizen Kane.

Man....I've been worried about Quantum of Solace for a while now.

I was so happy when they picked that title, cause I've been waiting for them to use it for a while. I think its incredibly classy - even though most people out there have no clue what it means.

But when I keep hearing all this stuff, like "its the shortest Bond film", "he doesn't say 'shaken, not stirred', nor does he say 'Bond, James Bond' in the film", "the Bond theme isn't used often", no Q, no Moneypenny.....basically, what's the point? They're trying to make it so Bond isn't Bond anymore. You might as well make it so he doesn't wear a suit and isn't British anymore - that way you might get the shitty audience that only cares about explosions and rock music. Cause really, what we need is for Bond to turn into Transporter or Bad Boys or whatever, right? Give me a break.

And come on...."Another Way to Die" is an ok song to listen to, but as a Bond theme, it ranks pretty damn low. They had the perfect opportunity to go with a jazzy romantic theme - you know, seeing as how "Quantum of Solace" is a title about romance, and the film is a continuing story about a romance, and how the last Bond film had a rock theme......but no, they do another generic rock theme with two people that sound like the same person and write lyrics like "a phone on the table/a door left open". Remember when Bond songs used to have an eloquence to them and talk about stuff like a lover's quarrel, or betrayal, destiny, eternity.......now its about "sayin do ya watcha wanna".

Casino Royale was fantastic, but the more I hear about QOS, the less I think I'm going to be impressed. I'm actually going to go into it (when it comes out in the US) thinking that it probably won't even be as good as Die Another Day.....which is sad, seeing as 3/4 of that film was a bad idea and the other 1/4 kicked ass.

I never seen a James Bond movie I enjoyed, except for Goldeneye, and the only reason I liked that was because the game was so fucking spectactular. Perhaps the greatest video game of all time.

I didn't expect it to be perfect. I thought it would have noticeable many faults and wouldn't be anywhere nearly as good as Casino Royale. I still thought it would be half way decent though. Stylistically, it's just too different from its predecessor - sure, we've still got no Q or Moneypenny but neither do we have any of the dry puns that Craig seemed so great at in Casino Royale. It might seem trivial but a different font popping up every time Bond goes somewhere new is extremely jarring - it feels like watching an episode of Heroes. Nor do we go about five seconds without something blowing up. There was more action than Die Another Day.

Just because I'm disappointed by a movie it doesn't mean I expect it to be perfect. Normally, I'm disappointed because a movie promised to be a different type of movie than it actually turned out to be. Same sort of thing here. Casino Royale redefined what a James Bond movie should be. No idea why the sequel is Bourne 4.

Edit: And what NoFate said. None of the traditional Bond stuff creeping in. If Casino Royale is Bond becoming Bond, QOS is Bond getting amnesia and thinking he's Jason Bourne. Like I said, the scene when he does don a tux and gets all "clever" is fantastic. He's just too eager to get it off.

To be honest, I think it's a good film.

You guys gotta remember that it's continued on from Casino Royale, so some of the stuff may be missing, because it's basically going to be one long film. Thats if, the next one is the culmination of the previous 2.

So what you're saying is... the ending of Casino Royale really drags?

Stylistically, the films clash fantastically.

Sam I have never said that you are not allowed to be disapointed....I personally have not seen the movie yet nor will I probably have time to see it. It seems tho these days Hollywood likes making movies with multiple things blowing up. Bond has turned into the stereotypical action thriller. I dont think you will ever see perfect dialouge or acting from a Bond movie. Its not meant to have that. Maybe the storyline is not right but if thats all then its cool. But action and buildings blowing up is what you get from a Bond movie. He does not have an actual antagonist that is known to people. He always has a different one so yeah.

Anywho, I have no problems with explosions. Though I don't think they're really the trademark of Hollywood movies. It's that there was nothing but action. Casino Royale had lots of action, yes, but it balanced it out with Bond being witty, classy and humorous. The torture scene and the card game were just plain awesome. There's only one scene in this entire movie that revisits that. The rest of the movie is just him running across rooftops.
