Do we need an actual contest for this one?
I don't think we do, KB. It completely changed the landscape of professional wrestling this year and ranks as one of the greatest promos ever cut. If CM Punk loses, I riot. Just kidding, but seriously, there isn't a contest here.
Scott Stiener's I AIN'T GOT NO SUGAR.
Just for the LULZ.
But its Punk.
Mark Henry 4 MVP
The Shoot Heard Round the World of Course.
But I did love Cena's first rap on the Rock.
Rock can't win 'em all
Punk's shoot. I don't think it means as much today as I thought it might, but it was pretty fucking epic. I didn't jump on the moron train, believing he went off the reservation, but, finally, WWE let someone off the choke collar. Good stuff.
Yeah, but it seems as if CM Punk can.
I don't even need to explain why Punk should win this by a landslide.
Loved Cena's rap, but Punk's shoot was orgasmic.
As much as I enjoyed Punk's shoot, my emotions were tweaked better by the whole Vince retirement segment - from his anger at Cena to his look of dismay at the insinuation that John might join TNA ("Don't do that to me") to his heartbroken look when Trips broke the news. Proof that VKM can still be the Chairman whenever he sees fit.
CM Punk's shoot lived up the name "shoot heard round' the world" for a reason. It was shocking, we agreed with a lot that he had to say, and made you question mentally wether he flew off the handle or was this all work even if it was a brief moment mentally. These reasons and more make it the 2011 Promo of the Year.
Hot Dang! I forgot about that!
Cena teasing going to TNA was alone epic, and Vince, by god, Vince is so very good in his promos. Blindingly talented on the mic, and he really did come cross as someone on the verge of a breakdown. He was so damn brilliant in that promo, that crowd went from those idiotic 'What' chants to actually cheering him and saying 'Thank You Vince'.
Now that's how you deliver a promo, the quality eclipses reality and makes you believe the emotion being proclaimed in the ring.
Phwoar, why there isn't an option for EVERYTHING R-TRUTH bloods my boil. Yeah, I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't know how either.
If the contract signing was considered to be one promo (which it was), I'd probably go with that. The combination of Punk making McMahon apologise and saying that Cena had become what he hates would warrant me picking it. Punk used baseball references that I didn't - and still don't - understand, and I simply didn't care. It was that good. All three men delivered some of their best mic work (that I've seen) in that promo.
However, in the heat of the moment, Punk's 'shoot' actually made me shiver.
The promo that even Klunderbunker couldn't ignore.
Mark Henry was still right though.
I did it for the Rock...
Most will say Punk's Shoot, but I enjoyed the Contract Signing with Vince equally as much. It was Vince McMahon stepping out and showing just what a prick he is inside the business world facing off against a renegade who had been abused by the system for the last time.
It was almost a public realisation of just what rubbish Punk had been exposed to since coming to WWE. For every Jeff Hardy feud there was a New Nexus. For every Straight Edge Society there was a de-push from the Undertaker. Breaking the fourth wall like no other and trading verbal shots at one-another made for a memorable encounter and follow-up to the shoot.
The Shoot Heard Round the World. End of Story.
I thought Mark Henry sticking it to the smarks who cheered for him when he beat Orton was tremendous as was Punk/Cena/Vince but there is only one winner here.
