I have a PHD in Horribleness
In recent memory we have had a no hitter, a one hitter, a perfect game, and a game in which we saw 26 runs scored. What I am asking is simple, do you prefer a pitcher's duel or a slug fest.

I personally enjoy a pitcher's duel over a slug fest as I feel it adds drama to a game. In a slug fest you can leave multiple runners on base and it be fine, whereas in a pitcher's duel every runner matters. A game can be decided by a single run and that is the way I like it. That feeling of urgency that you have to do everything in your power to stop the other team from scoring really drives my love of the game.

I am only a casual baseball fan, so I would rather see long ball if I were in attendance. I get the drama of a pitching duel, it just doesn't do it for me. I enjoy the 11-9 type games more than the 1-0 ones, but that is just my tastes.

Not knocking Davi323, but it does seem to me like the casual fans in general would rather see an offensive explosion. They don't want to see the defense step up when they need to, pitchers throwing lights out all game on both sides. It is all about the offense. Oh well.

For me it is a pitcher's duel, no doubt about it. I love seeing opposing pitchers going out and matching each other pitch for pitch. It builds drama to the game, as one run could turn the momentum of a game. Obviously in pitcher's duels it is not only pitchers striking out every hitter, but the defense needs to be on their toes. (Obviously at all times the defense should be, but it isn't) I do enjoy the occasional offensive outburst, but I prefer having those close games, because when you get down to it, the most important thing in the playoffs is pitching and defense.

When I watch the Yankees, I would prefer to see a 1-sided Slugfest, in which the Yankees win 15-0, this way I don't have to worry about the Yankees losing the game. However, I am definitely going to say Pitchers Duel for this argument (especially when watching a team that isn't my own). Whenever I watch a Slugfest, I can't get that "on the edge of your seat" feeling, because I expect my team to come back. With a Pitchers Duel, every pitch in so intense, because each run is so much more important.

Also, with Pitching Duels comes good defense, and sometimes great plays defensively. I love watching great defense, even more-so then home runs. Home runs take absolutely no skill what-so-ever. Every once in a while you hear about Celebs taking BP, and they hit some out, but you will never hear of celebrities making amazing defensive plays.

There is only one good thing that could come out of a Slugfest (at least 1-sided Slugfests). That is getting to see a position player pitch. 99% of the time they suck, but it's just funny to watch. Last Year for the Yankees, Nick Swisher came in to pitch during a 15-5 blowout loss, and it was hysterical to watch. This year, 2 cardinals came in during the 20 inning loss to the Mets, and again it was funny to watch, because they don't know what they are doing.

Davi has a good point. I would usually love watching a battle between two pitchers who have their stuff on a certain day. Theres nothing like filthy stuff, pitchers making batters look stupid, and of course, some great defense behind the pitchers. But when I actually make my way to the ballpark to see the game in person, I love seeing the longball. Seeing that ball leave and standing up and cheering as the batter rounds the bases is one of the best moments you can have at the game. So I guess it really depends on if I'm at the game or if I'm watching on TV

This might be a suprise to everyone but I love me a good slugfest. Only when it is one of those close, drama filled slugfest when it's tied through most the game and has great pitching outside of a few mistakes that get taken advantage of. Walks are the only thing that I don't like in a slugfest, walks almost made me go pitcher's duel.
