Photoshop (tech) question

If you have a previously "unofficial" version of Photoshop, can you actually purchase a proper upgrade to the next version without any side effects?

Reason being is I'm considering to CS5 which on upgrade is at a pretty nifty price (about 60% off the price of the actual program). I have CS3 which works fine which I got from a Uni friend, would upgrading it to CS5 make it not work or would it work fine?

Sly? Ty? Tech Man #20? Doc? Anybody?

Well I can tell you that here in my office we ended up getting two full versions to replace the CS2 copy we had here. Originally we were going a full and an upgrade, but the cost difference was $50 from where we purchased it. So upgrading from CS2 to CS5 was no issue. I"m assuming CS3 to CS5 would be no problem. Now as far as it being an "unofficial", I'm not entirely sure.

Yeah the upgrade version if for CS2, CS3 & CS4. I wouldn't get the Extended version tbh (don't need the 3D bits, as tempting as it is), but as the CS5 Upgrade is less than £200, it's definitely worth it.
