Phone Hacking: What Happens Next?

As possibly everyone whos British and posts here knows; unless you've been in a coma for the last week, the whole phone hacking shenanigans have been at least partly exposed. With the closure of the News of the World, there has been at least a cynical attempt to stop the emergence of new material that would further condemn those at the top, and with the arrest of Andy Coulsen, the future of David Cameron has, in some very small circle, been thrown into doubt.

So what happens now? Well, the very nature of what has been exposed in respect to the culture of the NOTW when Rebekah Brooks was in charge suggests that those implicated in the revelations will take anyone and everyone down with them. Personally, a number of questions have to be asked by both a police and a public inquiry:

1. Was/is it just the NOTW participating in the hacking of phones?
2. Why was Rebekah Brooks not prosecuted for admitting in a House Of Commons Select Committee that she oversaw the payment to police officers for information?
3. Why, when the Met had all this 11,000 pages worth of information about hacking in 2006, did they do nothing about it whatsoever?
4. More pertinently, why did the NOTW feel it was acceptable to keep hacking phones when they knew that the Met had all this information?
5. How many police officers received payment for inside information?
6. Should there be a regulatory body for the press?

Finally, I'll just mention this. How Brooks is still in a job is beyond belief. If noone goes to prison for this who was directly involved, I will have completely lost faith in the justice system. Feel free to add more questions that you feel should be asked by a public and/or a police inquiry, in addition to what you think should happen next.
