Personal Favorite Feud/Storyline?

The Scarred One

The Greatest of All Time
The subject behind this thread is pretty much in the title: what has been your personal favorite feud/storyline of all time? Not what was the best feud, but rather what was a feud that really enraptured you to the point where you couldn't wait until next week to see what would happen.

I'll give you an example of what I mean in the form of "Y2J" Chris Jericho and "Captain Charisma" Christian.

Back in 2002, these two blond Canadians formed the perfect tag team. They were both equally arrogant, cocky and talented, fitting together like pieces of a puzzle. They earned success as a tag team, winning the World Tag Team Championship at one point and provided great entertainment over the next year. In October 2003, however, Chris Jericho surprisingly came to the aid of Trish Stratus following a post-match attack. At the same time, Christian rescued Lita from losing her job. Many were left to ponder what these two were up to and whether we were seeing face turns for both.

Eventually, it was revealed that the two men had made a bet to see which one would score with their respective diva first. Trish and Lita found out about it and wanted nothing to do with either men. Whereas Christian showed his true colors as an asshole, it turns out Jericho developed real feelings for Trish and tried to convince her it was real. As this was going down, Christian did what he could to drive a wedge between them both. Following an intergender singles match where Christian beat up Trish, stating he did it for Jericho, the friendship between the two men came to an end. The stage was set for both men at the grandest stage of them all: WrestleMania XX.

The match was what you would expect from wrestlers as talented as these two; technically sound with counters and reversals from both men that got the crowd really involved. Combining both technical and high-flying moves with proper storytelling, this was one of the best matches on the card. But it was the ending that was most memorable. Trish came running to ringside and climbed the apron just as Jericho delivered a superplex to Christian, who proceeded to drag her into the ring. After throwing Christian away from Trish, Jericho goes to check on her but she "accidentally" nailed him with an elbow, allowing Christian to sneak the win with a roll-up. Trish attempts to apologize to Chris, only to SWERVE and slap the shit of him, allowing Christian to run in and deliver the Unprettier. The two seal the deal with a kiss on the ramp, rubbing more salt into the wound.

Afterwards, a now-face Chris Jericho now attempted to seek revenge against his former best friend and ex-girlfriend. He did so by defeating Christian in a steel cage match in May and defeating his problem solver, Tyson Tomko, at Badd Blood, officially ending the storyline.

This was my favorite feud because it involved three of my favorite WWE Superstars in Chris Jericho, Christian and Trish Stratus. They all had great chemistry with one another and really made the storyline work. It also solidified Jericho as a sympathetic babyface, Christian as an upper-card heel and Trish as an entertaining (and hot!) bad girl.

I apologize if this was a little long, but I just wanted to give those unfamiliar with the storyline a history lesson to describe what I meant.

But anyway, what is your personal favorite feud/storyline? It can be from any organization at any point time and you can have as many examples as you can think of.

My personal favorite would clearly be Kane/HHH. It showed the fragile, emotional attachment a psycho who thought he burnt his face years earlier could have with a dead carcass. I wonder if he took his mask out on dates or if he got in trouble for wrecking Paul Bearer's Buick (Bearer is still the biological father, right?).

My true favorite storyline (though I can't really pick just one) would probably be Lesnar/Angle, back when Angle still had the Worlds Greatest Tag Team as his protégés. It was a clinic of technical wrestling ability, Brock Lesnar was an unstoppable monster with all the potential and ability to be one of the greatests and he had the attitude that actually sold his feuds. Angle could out wrestle nearly anyone up until that point with one hand behind his back. Through their injuries, they still put on incredible matches every damn night. This one is probably both of them at the peaks of their professional wrestling careers.

My personal favorite was the feud between the Undertaker and Kane before wrestlemania 20...the first time we here the bells at the royal rumble event...and after that every week undertaker tormented Kane eventually making a comeback as the deadman at wrestlemania 20...

Bret Hart Vs Owen Hart and Bret Hart/Austin; them two feuds actually sprawlled out a lot more feuds plus they were long feuds that had you emotionally involved (Brother vs Brother, the cage match and WMX Owen stealing one from his older brother) and Austin/Bret had 2 CLASSICS on PPV at the Survivor Series 96 and WM13 shows, plus their little match at Revenge of the taker with Austin winning via dq, plus the Canadian Stampede match awesome feud.

Hogan vs Andre: The sheer beauty was in the lack of contact between the two. The worked Mania 3, The Main Event and Mania 4. Yes, I know, there were house shows and all the rest if it, but the feud was built on space between matches. The matches ended up meaning something.

Savage vs Steamboat: The start was really Savage vs Steele, which morphed when Savage el Kabonged Steamboat on Superstars. It was the first indication that Savage would do ANYTHING to keep the IC belt. Mania 3's match was a classic. The big thing that I would have done different though is that at Mania 4, I would have had Steamboat go over Valentine and match up with Savage in the second round. I get that we didn't see face vs face matches, but it would have been better booking.

Austin vs Vince: The sheer amount of time we waited for Austin to stun Vince for the first time was painful. We waited and waited and got it. Of course, at that point it became a weekly, or almost, occurence. Honestly, this was the last long term really well developped feud the E has given us. Everything since, IMO, has been shotgunned right into matches because of the sheer amount of television they have to fill.

The Shawn Michaels/ Undertake feud from 1997 going into 1998. One of the most underrated feuds of that year and maybe all time. They had three classic matches in my opinion, the first being the no hold's bard match at IYH:Ground Zero and of course the Hell in A Cell Match at Bad Blood and casket match from Royal Rumble. The great thing about that feud and the WWF at that time is that wrestlers would be in multiple feuds at once. At time HBK was feuding with Bret, Ken Shamrock and The Undertaker all at once and Taker was in the middle of that 5 month feud with Kane. HBK and Taker always had great Matches together.

Roddy Piper and everybody. The man could make any feud that much better he would just push and push the limits of the other people to the point were they really hated him.
Roddy Piper took a real coconut and SMASHED it on someones head, you know how hard you have to hit a coconut just to crack it.
When he painted hi body halk black when he was feuding with Brown. Then the whole Mr. T feud. He was not going to let Mr. T touch him do a move or job himself out to an actor. He just took every feud to awhole new level

I got two.

The first was Austin Vs HHH right before WM18. Austin had figured out that HHH was the one who tried to end his career by hitting him with a car. They attacked eachother several times and costed eachother matches.

Finally, Vince put a no "physical contact" rule for them leading to their match at No Way Out. HHH appeared to sign the contract and handed it to Austin for him to sign. Austin signed and HHH proceeded to beat the hell out of him. Then we found out that HHH had not yet signed the deal.

After the contract signing, both superstars antagonized eachother by attacking eachother's friends or family. One week, HHH would pedigree JR (Austin's best friend). The next week Austin would stun HHH's wife Stephanie. They were even put in a tag team match at one point in the feud which wrenched up the intensity.

Finally, it came down to their match at No Way Out. I can't remember how but HHH got to pick the stipulations of the match. He chose a 3 falls match; the first fall being a straight up match, the second being a street fight and the third being a cage match. Surprisingly Austin won the first match which favored HHH because he was supposedly a better technical wrestler while Austin was supposed to be a brawler. Of course HHH won the next two falls but they both put eachother over very well.

The reason this was one of my favorite storylines is mainly because it involve two of my favorite wrestlers in HHH and Austin. It was also because of the intensity of the "no physical contact rule". They did so well selling their hate for one another that nobody could believe that they would team up after WM18 but they did. Too bad HHH tore his quad because I really would have liked to have seen what would happen with that.

My second favorite storyline was Undertaker vs HBK at WM25. HBK had just finished his fued with JBL and then had another match to decide who would fave Taker to end "the streak" at WM25. HBK won and began his campaign to get inside takers head through Vignettes and promos. These were classic promos that HBK was cutting. My favorite was his promo with him dressed like taker except in all white. Then whenever Taker would attempt a promo, HBK would usually show up to ruin it. Going into WM, it appeared that HBK had truly gotten into Taker's head.

The reason this was such a great storyline was because of what was at stake: the Taker's streak. The Match was one of the greatest matches of all time. The two told a story in the ring. The match truly looked to be up in the air and "the streak" looked to be truly in danger.

Stone Cold vs. Vince but that's already been said, so I'll be original and pick one that hasn't been said.

DDP vs. Savage: Savage was just messing with DDP at first like he was another jobber. It was make or break at Spring Stampede 97 for DDP and in one of my favourite upset victories of all time, DDP showed Savage that he wasn't just another stepover and then the feud became about both guys trying to one up each other, about both men trying to prove who's the best. Both guys ended up tying in singles matches when Savage beat DDP in their rematch at Great American Bash with help from Hall then they moved onto tag matches and ended up tying there aswell until they had their feud ending rubber match at Halloween Havoc which Savage ended up winning. Savage may have won the feud but the real winner of the feud was DDP. Savage put him over like a star, losing cleanly to DDP in one half of their singles & tag matches but cheating to beat him in the other half of their single & tag matches. This feud had everything, good matches, good storyline and both men coming out looking good.

I thought of a few more that were faves:

I know he's a taboo subject but Benoit vs Kevin Sullivan and Benoit vs Raven from the WCW days were a couple of great feuds. The matches that were had by these 2 with Benoit were incredibly entertaining. I never really thought much of Kevin before these matches. Raven was always a favorite of mine, but this was really his first big feud in WCW.

Savage vs Flair was one that transcended the 2 companies and will always be a classic because of that. I think that this was the first time that a feud continued in WCW that started in WWF, and they didn't pretend that the 2 had never met before.

HBK vs Bret buildup for the Iron Man match at WM XII. It was all about respect, and the World Heavyweight Championship. That was what was so awesome about it. Nobody stole anything from anybody, nobody cheated anybody, nobody wanted revenge, they both just really, really wanted the WWF title around their waist, and the other guy was just standing in the way.

I remember there was a bunch of training montages showing both of them getting ready for the match like it was a UFC fight, or a boxing match. It was great. My personal favorite fued/angle/storyline just becuase of how down to earth it was, and the men involved. I just wish Bret would have won. To this day I'm still upset about him losing that match. I remember being just heartbroken about it when I was a kid. Hated to see the Hitman drop the title.

lol the feud that I loved as a kid is a feud that really didn't last long. I found the "The Narcissist" Lex Luger to be one of the most entertaining and funny wrestlers ever. The guy was so arrogant and so cocky and his feud with Mr. Perfect heading into Wrestlemania IX was great. You had these two overly arrogant guys going at each other and something had to give. Mr. Perfect, he was perfect, that's what he'd say and you can't beat perfect right? Narcassist would come out and say "Look at these pecks I am beyond perfect." lol I found that so funny even as a kid. How can you be beyond perfect? But that was the character.

The feud was short lived. After their Wrestlemania match the two battled backstage as Perfect was hit by a young Shawn Micheals in jeans lol with a garbage can, as Luger cowardly ran away.

There was a lot of cool ways I think that character could have went. But later that calender year WWF decided to morph Luger in the "All American USA" with Hogan departing the company. And USA Luger wasn't bad but my favourite incarnation of Luger will always be the arrogant Narcassist highlighted by the feud with late great Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig.

#1) HBK vs. Bret. I got into wrestling to watch Hulk Hogan. Soon after Bret became my favorite. He got my attention with the matches against Roddy/Davey on ppv, they were some of the best I ever saw. Shawn was the first heel I liked. His matches always interested me as well. I really enjoyed there program together in late 92 through 93. They feuded intermittenly through the mid 90s. The buildup for the Iron Man Match had me so pumped for that match. My favorite part of the feud was USA vs Canada with HBK/Austin vs. Hart Foundation. I really enjoyed their promos, I guess the real life hatred really made them special. Didnt something happen to end of the feud at Survivor Series 1997? Amazing they could still draw interest over 10 years later when the finally met in the ring to burry the hatchet.

2)Savage vs. Roberts: Truly hated Jake for having his snake attack Randy. Being very young I was legit scared when that happened. Wished they had a cage match or wm8 match to end the feud.

3)WWF vs The Alliance Am I the only one who liked the Invasion angle? Yes it could have been so much better but the summer of 2001 was awesome tv. This is the last time I can remember being very excited to watch wrestling.

nWo vs WCW... my favourite storyline hands down, what an awesome concept, what an awesome build, too bad starrcade 97 didnt deliver but thennWo was so exciting to watch, just to see whod show up next, who would turn and waiting for Sting to descend from the rafters to fight the almost unstoppable force.

Actually I kinda dug it too.

Anyway here's some of my favorites over the years.

Hulk Hogan VS Ultimate Warrior in WCW... Yes in WCW. I know a lot of people crap on this one, and as a much more mature adult I can see why, but at the time I was a HUGE Warrior mark and seeing him return to destroy Hogan was the biggest thing in my life! Haha. Of course it didn't quite pan out or last, but man was I hyped for it while it was going on.

Ric Flair VS Macho Man WM 8... Loved it. I was so intrigued to see what was going to happen next the entire time and I absolutely love their match at Mania. Great stuff!

HBK VS Flair WM 24... What a great storyline and way to end Ric's career... Well sordof anyway, haha.

Steve Austin VS Vince McMahon (The storyline basically represented what we all wanted to do to authority figures who abuse their power. It had so many great moments, and years of a buildup. It was awesome from start to finish! The beer truck, the zamboni, the first stunner to McMahon, the Corporation, etc etc.)

Jake Roberts VS Ricky Steamboat (When he DDT'ed Steamboat on the floor at SNME I was in awe as a kid. I had never seen anything like it and couldn't wait to see what would happen next. One of my personal favorites!)

Curt Hennig VS Nick Bockwinkel (The fued that put Hennig on the map. The matches were so far ahead of their time and were great from start to finish. AWA was always hit or miss but this was a homerun. It's one of the gems of AWA that doesn't get nearly enough credit.)

Ric Flair VS Macho Man WM 8... Loved it. I was so intrigued to see what was going to happen next the entire time and I absolutely love their match at Mania. Great stuff!

One of the best feuds/matchs ever. I cant fully get behind it simply because I wanted Hogan/Flair and Savage/Roberts so bad. But cant deny how great the match and feud was. What a great year Macho Man had in 1992.

The Randy Savage-Elizabeth continuing saga...... I'm talking about the time they spent separated 20 years ago. Knowing they were married in real life indicated pretty clearly that the breach was going to be healed in time. But while the whole thing was going on, Macho Man allied himself with Sensational Sherry while Liz joined forces with Dusty Rhodes (The Plumber's Son!) and Sweet Sapphire. It was torture for me!

I was 12 years old when all this was going on, and Elizabeth was my idol.:) I wanted her to be with Randy even as I wanted her to rebel against him and somehow take the upper hand in their relationship. When the reconciliation occurred (the night Ultimate Warrior "ended" Savage's career), all I cared about was seeing the two of them in the center of the ring, which had the side benefit of turning Macho Man into a good guy......although he remained the baddest good guy I've ever seen. At least he treated Liz better from that point on.

Their split provided great anticipation week after week, and it was my favorite WWE storyline of all time.

Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho's feud in 2008 is probably my all time favourite. It was a classic feud that progressed perfectly, had amazing promos (The contract signing for the unsanctioned match being perhaps my favourite promo ever), felt real and was full of emotion, then there were the matches! So varied and like the action sequence chapters of the saga these two were playing out.

It really was wrestling storytelling at it's very best, with two guys who were great at every aspect of the art form pulling all their experience together to use on this feud, nothing was wasted, every promo, angle and match added a layer to the overall story and unlike many angles BOTH men got even more over due to it as they worked as equals telling a story that was about more than good guy vs bad guy.

Long feuds with that quality of progression and all round work are rare but they used to be a more regular thing in the old days, to pull one off in 2008 was a near miracle, and the best feud I've ever seen.

I think you have to look at Undertaker and Kane as one of wrestling's all-time classic feuds and storylines.

Kane debuting as the long-lost brother of Undertaker, who was supposed to have died in the fire that 'Taker started, and standing face to face with The Dead Man inside the Hell In A Cell is a classic WWE image. The look of shock on Undertaker's face was brilliantly done. Kane was an absolute monster after his initial debut.

I loved how 'Taker refused to fight his brother, and then eventually ended up facing him at WM, and it took 3 Tombstones to put Kane down. The storyline has basically been ongoing for nearly 15 years, with the brothers eventually teaming up to become tag-team champions as "The Brothers Of Destruction", but have feuded several times since including another WrestleMania match, which Undertaker won.

The storyline is still so over with fans, both wrestlers will always remain popular and its something that WWE can go back to at any time. With such unrealistic characters, and cheesy special effects like Undertaker rising from the dead and lightning bolts shooting from his hands etc, its surprising that the feud has been so successful, but its a credit to both Mark Calloway and Glen Jacobs that is has. They are two fantastic performers.

HHH vs. HBK has always been a favorite of mine. I was there at the Raw where the feud got started, the one where HHH tried to trick HBK in reforming DX but at the end pedigrees him. So I guess it always has that special spot in my heart. It also was freaking awesome too though. So personal and intense, and the matches were always off the charts. I know some people got tired of this feud, but I always enjoyed it and every match they ever had.

Besides the obvious like Sting vs. Hogan, Bret vs. Austin etc. one feud/buildup that I always enjoyed that kinda flew under the radar was Crush vs. Savage. I've always been a huge Savage fan so naturally I always had a biased towards him, but at the time I really liked the whole Hawaiin Crush gimmick they had. I never would've pictured him being a heel(at the time I didn't know he was the same guy in the heel Demolition team). So when he turned on Savage and sided with Mr. Fuji, as a kid I was both shocked and devastated. That whole buildup to their match at WMX I loved, and even though most thought that match was forgetful I actually enjoyed it. I thought it was unique and innovating and to this day I don't think they've ever had a match with that stipulation before. So anyway like I said this wouldn't be my favorite but it was one that I really liked that I think got forgotten about by most people.

That is another one that is very high up on my list of all time favorite fueds/angles.

I grew up addicted to horror movies, especially the Friday the 13th series. I remember I was 14 years old the night that the Undertaker "Came back to life" on Raw after his hiatus following the Royal Rumble, and I was literally jumping up, and down in excitement. Looking back now it was indeed a very dramatic saga where the performers really did a great job of pulling it off.

....And, Savage vs Crush at WM X was a match that I enjoyed as well. Kind of like a hardcore match before hardcore matches were cool. I remember liking Crush a lot when I was a wee little lad. Crush vs the Repo Man fued was solid gold for a 7 year old boy like me.

My favourites would pretty much involve Rick Rude. Rick vs Jake Roberts was pure gold, one of the first segments I saw was Mrs Roberts' face on Rick's crotch... the buildup to the matches was impeccable. Also Rude v Warrior for the IC title and then how it seuged straight into the Piper fued was also a masterclass of how to do a proper storyline. When he went to WCW he walked straight into an epic year long feud with Sting, and let's not forget him being on WWE and WCW on the same night.

One I did like that is very underrated was the original Doink feud with Crush, hitting him with the loaded cast and the Double Vision moment at Wrestlemania was innovative and pretty hardcore for the time. It was such a shame that Matt Borne got canned, cos that character had massive potential before it became the kiddies fave.

I actually loved that Jericho/Christian storyline too.

One of my favourites is Jericho/Michaels leading up to Mania 19 with the video packages and the talk of Jericho trying to be just like Shawn and then trying to move past him. It culminated in an amazing match as well.

One of my favourites feuds was Bret Hart vs Diesel during 1994-1996,their first match in King of the Ring when Jim Anvil disqualified Bret for Owen.
After the match in RR 1995 in a good moment and the victory of Diesel marks by intervention of Owen and Bob backlundSurvivor Serties when Diesel returned as Bad guy when he explosed Bret in a commentator tabbles the first in WWF history.
And for finish his cage match for the WWF tittle with the intervention of Taker up in the ring.
4 memorabilia matchs for an wonderful battle.
