If you DVRed a baseball game, and don't want to read who did it, DON'T click the spoiler.

Mark Buehrle of the Chicago White Sox threw the 18th perfect game in MLB history today, shutting out the Tampa Bay Rays 5-0.

with 0 out in the 9th inning, Tampa Bay's Game Kapler hit a long drive to Left Center, and Chicago centerfielder Dewayne Wise (a late inning defensive replacement) was able to leap and rob Kapler of a Home Run, preserving the Perfect Game. The final out was a groundout to Shortstop Alexei Ramirez.

Congratulations to Mark Buehrle for putting himself among one of baseballs most elite groups.

Everytime someone throws a perfect game I think that's it just incredible. Definetly one of the toughest things to do in all of sports. Being able to keep your concentration for 27 straight batters without making any mistakes is near impossible. Even if you pitch your absolute best you still need a ton of luck to throw a perfect game. Congrats to Bueherle, it's not like the Rays are a bad team either.

Not to mention you have to have the luck of 8 other fielders who are under a shitload of pressure to avoid any errors and keep it going. That catch by Wise was fantastic, will probably be the play of the year when all is said and done. Truly is a remarkable thing any time it's accomplished. This is his 2nd career no hitter as well. Beast.

Bueherle is one of the most composed pitchers in all of the game. To be able to pitch to 9 of the world's elite hitters and put them each down three times in a game is absolutely the single hardest feat to accomplish in all of sports. My hat goes off to him, and to his defense. The catch by Wise was amazing and gave us all a great moment to remember, and the shortstop fielded the last ground ball very well. Buerherle is establishing himself as one of the elite pitchers in the game. This is his second no-no, the first coming in 2007. In that game, he only faced 27 batters too. He walked Sosa, but picked him off two pitches later. Incredibly crafty pitcher and great to watch. Good job.

Mark Buerhle is easily one of the most underrated pitchers of in the past decade. As a fan that has watched him for the past 9 years, he has good stuff, not the greatest, but he knows how to pitch. He isn't too worried about his velocity, as witnessed today he was mostly between 86-90. His cut fastball is one of his best pitches, and he has a really good curve and change up. It is amazing how he has a perfect game and a no-hitter, because he pitches to contact. But he is a fast worker and definitely one of the best left handers in the game.

The fact that amazes me is that this guy was the ace of the World Series winning team in 2005, threw a no hitter in 2007, is an all-star, and still is under appreciated among most fans (especially outside Chicago). Buehrle's next contract SHOULD be among the top pitchers in baseball (annually). ChiHawks is right, his stuff isn't the best, but it isn't always about the most talent, it is about using the talent you have to the fullest. He is probably the 3rd best lefty in the league right now (behind Johan Santana and CC Sabathia, 2 of the best in the game, regardless of handedness.

The catch by Wise was awesome, although it reaches play of the year status only because of the situation in my opinion. Watching him bobble the ball after keeping it in the park reminded me of the 9th inning of David Cone's perfect game in 1999 (10 years ago last Saturday), where Left Fielder Ricky Ledee lost the ball in the sun, and the ball magically fell into his glove. As a Yankee fan, I cringe watching it, thinking he is gonna drop the ball (even now on replays). Perfect games always tend to have a few great plays, and a few lucky plays that shouldn't be made under normal situations, and Wises play fits both of those categories (great in robbing the home run, lucky in being able to hold on after bobbling the ball.

All in all, hopefully when Buehrle's contract is up the Yankees can sign him (I am a greedy Yankee fan, I know).
