One Hit wonders

Sparky

Master of the Aussie kiss
Almost every year One hit wonders hit the Music Scene. You know the kind, they always have that Catchy song that everybody loves. and thats what they are known for. No other song they bring out works Could it be becouse they make the mistake of making their best work published first or is it just that they are horrible singers but that one song is Catchy. anyway.

What is the greatest one hit wonder Song of all time?

For me it would be Wheatus and the song Teenage Dirtbag. When this came out EVERYBODY loved it. even the people that wasnt a fan of that sort of music liked it. Sadly after that song Nothing else came of them. That song to this day is still a big hit at Disco's and Partys.

Another is MC Hammer and you cant touch this. The song is on Singstar, all over the radio still to this day, and people always say "You cant touch this" All the time but again MC Hammer didnt do anything else worth Mentioning.

They are my two favourite One Hit wonder's What are yours?

I bought a one hit wonders album years ago. I can honestly say that I've never played an album more. It's full of chese. And you often wonder how some of the artists even became one hit wonders in the first place. But you also wonder why nobody bought their follow up songs. Because surely they must have done one. I think one hit wonder is defined as somebody who didn't make it into the top 40 a second time, so most of them should have released a follow up single.

Breakfast At Tiffany's - Deep Blue Something
(I Just) Died In Your Arms - Cutting Crew
You're The Voice - John Farnham
Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm - Crash Test Dummies
Spirit In The Sky - Norman Greenbaum
Imagination - Belouis Some
The One And Only - Chesney Hawkes
My Sharona - The Knack

All classics. And there acn't be many people who don't know the riff off Mickey by Toni Basil.

Breakfast At Tiffany's - Deep Blue Something
Ahhh Great song.
(I Just) Died In Your Arms - Cutting Crew
Is this the song off of GTA? if so I loved this song when i first heard it.
Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm - Crash Test Dummies
Never heard of it.
Spirit In The Sky - Norman Greenbaum
Really catchy Song.
Imagination - Belouis Some
The One And Only - Chesney Hawkes
Cant recall these two.
My Sharona - The Knack
Another great song.

You're The Voice - John Farnham
:lmao::lmao::lol: That song was really on their? THat Can't Be Right. John Farnham a one hit wonder? What about Sady the cleaning lady? Whispering Jack(26 Frieking weeks that was number one), Age of reason, Chain Reaction, The last time. They are just a few Number one hits this guy has had. not to mention all the ones that made the top ten. just short of the number one place. John Farnham may be alot of things but a one hit wonder? Never.

There are alot of great and well known one hit wonders in the world. Some of my favorites for whatever reasons are "Blind Melon--No Rain" &"Faith No More--Epic".

Also there are some artists today that I think may become one hit wonders and they include "Sara Barellis--Love Song", "Yael Naim--New Soul", "Party like a Rockstar--Shop Boyz", "This is why I'm Hott--Mims" and maybe "I Kissed a Girl"--Katy Perry. Also there are some artists that are known for being one hit wonders but they have had minor top 40 hits but there 1 HUGE songs just overshadow the rests so their still known as one hit wonders. Also some well known one hit wonders have hits in other countries for an example Fiest has had only 1 bbhot 100 top 40 song-1234, but here in Canada shes had a few top 40 hits.

Also by the only 1 top 40 hit some other one hit wonders would be Janis Jopelin & Jimi Hendrix but I dont think anyone considers them one hit wonders.

Well I remember Sisco with his famous "Thong Song." That song made him as before that song came out he was a nobody and after it came out everyone was dancing and singing to it. He was all over the place, but like most who come out of nowhere Sisco could never repeated his success as his new few songs were crap and that was the end of him. Funny thing is most people still remember the thong song, but can not remember who the song was by.

I'd go with the Fly's Got You Where I Want You.

It was from Disturbing Behavior. I saw that movie just because the melodramatic lull of the song made me want to see it. Plus, the girls in that video were f'in hot.

Sisqo wasn't a complete one hit wonder, he was in that group, with that song, ummm....ok, you were right.

MC Hammer also had 2 legit 2 quit, which featured "Prime Time" Neon Deion Sanders in the video. It was the official song of the Atlanta Falcons for a while...so, MC Hammer isn't really a one hit wonder. For me, I am gonna have to prove my age, and go with "Kung Fu Fighting" by Carl Douglas.

What about Lou Bega? He had a HUGE hit with Mambo No.5. I literally heard that sone everywhere I went. Since then I havent heard anything from him. Can't really say I'm disappointed because I didnt really like that song or him to be honest. But he literally vansihed from the music scene.

Honorable Mention goes to, Vanilla Ice with Ice,Ice, Baby. That song was soo bad ass. I am not even joking. I understand he still makes music, but it is literally trash now. I still listen to that song on occasion.

What about Forever Young by Youth Group? In Australia it was on the radio for ages, and then they just disappeared from everywhere. They're still making music now, but I haven't heard anything about them in ages.

Back in 96-97, the Macarena song by Los Del Rio was everywhere (radio, VH1, clubs). A couple years ago I went on a late night cruise at the beach and sure enough they played that song and everybody still remembered that dance. I guess it's a classic like the Electric Slide in that regard.

One of the most annoying one-hit wonders of all time has to be Hanson's Mmm Bop. That song was way overplayed. I couldn't change the station fast enough.

One of my favorite one-hit wonders of all-time is Escape (aka the Pina Colada song) by Rupert Holmes. It's awesomely bad yet sucks you in somehow. I blame Shrek, lol.

Everybody's Free to Wear Sunscreen by Baz Luhrman is another of my faves. You can't dance to it, it's not catchy, and it's long. But it's great life advice and speaks to me every time I hear it.

Axel F- The Crazy Frog.

Seriously in 2005, I think every person under the age of 15 (and shamefully a lot over the age of 15) had it as their ringtone. It is an absolute travesty that the Frog never had any further hits as I saw big things for him, although I hear it did bring out an album,?!

Does anyone know of any other hits it had?

Kes

This Axel guy did have like five different versions, A game video clips etc and there is talk about a second game. I dont think he is a one hit wonder, I hate this song but with all of the realeses being (sadly) popular he is not a one hit wonder. But it would fall under worst song ever. but its annoying, catchy and everybody loves every version. well almost everybody. and its a bit to soon for this guy. he will be back again with a vengeance. and i might be wrong but isnt he the guy that wrote the crocodile song?

Mountain - Mississippi Queen is a great example. The did nothing else since this song. It was also one of the biggest hits in the early 70s. funny thing about Crash Test Dummies, Internationally they are One Hit Wonders, but here in Canada, MMM MMM MMM MMM is not even their biggest song. Their song Superman was a much bigger hit. They also had more recent hits, that will not be as remembered.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't count MC Hammer as a one hit wonder because some of his other singles charted better or as good as U Can't Touch This.

Some of my faves though would be "Ice Ice Babe" by Vanilla Ice, "Who Let The Dogs Out" by Baha Men and "Butterfly" by Crazy Town.

Well, there are a few that I enjoy.

Sparky I have to agree, Teenage Dirtbag. I have it and still listen to it but I shall also list these.

1.Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Right Round (I know people who say they are and say they arn't, I say they are though)

2.Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal. Without looking on the internet, can you name one other song from them?

That's all I can think of at the moment.

A future contender for one hit wonder would be Metro Station. The internet tells me they had a couple of songs out before Shake It that failed epicly and I never knew of these songs and they were 'saved' by the success of the song Shake It. That and the fact Trace Cyrus is half related to Miley Cyrus are the only reasons they have some popularity.

People will say though, oh Richard, they are popular with teen girls of today. Well, so was Jessy McCartny, now where is he? I haven't heard of anything from him in a very, very long time and probably won't for a long time either.

Metro Station = future one hit wonders

how about "Bad to the Bone" by George Thoregood and the Destroyers? I dont think ive ever heard of any other song by them and yet EVERYBODY knows that song.

Jesse McCartny actually just had a pretty big hit called "Leavin", so he really isn't a 1 hit wonder per say. I think some future 1 hit wonders include:

1. Shop Boyz-Party like a Rockstar: Big summer song last year, their follow up fail to make a dent in the chart and they sold like 300k albums.

2. Mims-This is why I'm hot: BB100 #1 hit, but their follow up "Like this" failed to make top 40, and their album didn't sell much. I haven't heard of a follow up so I assume their gonna be 1 hit wonders.

3. Kardinal Official-Dangerous: While Kardi is a huge name in Canada and has had many hits here, dangerous fea. Akon is his only true hit. His follow up called "Numba 1" fea. Keri Hilson(it samples the song tide is high)has yet to be sent out to radio stations but I don't think it's going to be able to go top 40 here in America.

Seem's like there are alot of rap or hip/hop artists that are future 1 hit wonders.

United States of Whatever by Liam Lynch. Remember him? I had to look him up to know his name. But I remember when I was in primary schol, this song was being played everywhere. But yet hardly anybody even remembers him, and I doubt you would find a person that would know another song by him.

This list would be incomplete without the inimitable Safety Dance by Men Without Hats. Maybe it's the singer's voice that sounds like he's bored out of his mind, maybe it's the actual "dance" or the video featuring midgets in a jolly nice medieval setting, but you can't help but dig that tune.

how about "Bad to the Bone" by George Thoregood and the Destroyers? I dont think ive ever heard of any other song by them and yet EVERYBODY knows that song.

Dude, George Thorogood and the Destroyers were a multi-hit group. They had hits with the remakes of "Move it On Over" and "Who Do You Love," as well as "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer," and "I Drink Alone." They were hardly one-hit wonders.

In the US, Chumbawamba is a one-hit wonder with Tubthumping. Now, I felt the album was steller from top to bottom, and so much more politically relevant that that one hypnotic song could ever let on. I'd like to hear how they fare in the UK, Aussie, and Ireland.

Well to the best of my knowledge, Chumbawamba didn't have any other form of success of any sort besides their hit Tubthumping here (Australia). I don't remember hearing anything else from them on the radio, tv or whatever. They just disappeared from the mainstream radar I think.

'Movies'.................. man, that was easy. There was another singl they released if i recall correctly but God knows what that was called.

My pick would have to be 'Spaceman' by Babylon Zoo. It was No.1 for ages and then i don't think i ever heard them mentioned again. Quality tune though if you ask me.
