Welcome to My (And Not Sly's) House
The old days of Hollywood, and I'm talking about the 30s and 40s, are seen as the Golden Age of cinema. Back then there were no special effects, no CGI, nothing but the people and the set around them. These films are absolutely amazing. Films like Gone With the WInd, Citizen Kane and Casablanca have stood teh test of time and are still known as some of the greatest films ever.
What I want to know is this: What era is better? Is it the modern era, which could be seen as the 90s and beyond, where there are special effects, more technology to make movies look and sound better and be flashier, or is it the older stuff? The kind of films that are just people acting and becoming their characters?
For me, it's easily the older stuff. Today's films can rely too much on dumb plots and have actors that are overhyped. While there are definitely films out there today that are excellent, they pale in comparison to the classic black and white films of the older times. Those movies and actors had nothing special to work with, and still easily hold up today. Watch a movie like Gone With the WInd. While it was made almost 70 years ago, it still easily holds up today. Will a film like Superbad be popular then? I can't imagine it for the lfie of me.
