I grew up on wrestling in the 80’s and early 90’s too. It was entertainment back then just as it is today. How is growing up on Hulk Hogan really any different than growing up on John Cena? Take a look at some of the popular things back then. We loved it when Jake the Snake would win a match and let Damien slither on his fallen opponent. We loved it when Brutus Beefcake would put some poor jabroni to sleep and give him a hair cut. What about characters like The Ultimate Warrior and Hillbilly Jim. These weren’t old school wrestlers. These were entertainers. What about the early 90’s? Tatanka, Doink, Repo Man, Berzerker, Bastion Booger, Duke the Dumpster Droese. I could go on all day. A lot of people think that entertainment replaced wrestling when WWE replaced WWF. This is simply not the case. Wrestling has always been about entertainment. Even before Vince took over in 1982. We just didn’t notice as much back then because we grew up thinking that’s just the way wrestling was. Wrestling always has been and always will be entertainment.
