Ohio State to go free!!l

Looks like the Buckeyes will face very little, if any, addition penalties. The NCAA informed them today no additional charges will be filed, including lack of institutional control. I don't think they'll lose ANY bowl games. Just probation and MAYBE the loss of a few scholarships. Now we can get Urban Myer after the season. Next year reguardless of the coach, we should see the return of top notch recruiting and more big ten dominance. We'll just chalk this year up as a reloading year. I have a feeling the Braxton Miller era is going to be a GREAT one.

The NCAA fucked this one up. I figured the penalties wouldn't be overly severe because Tressel resigned but no way should they have faced this little. After what USC faced I thought the NCAA would do more. The damage has still been done to cost OSU a few years but they will get on their feet sooner then expected because of this.

You are DREAMING if you think that Ohio State isn't going to be punished severely. You Bucknuts amuse the hell out of me, living in your persistent state of denial about this. Just because the NCAA aren't adding new charges doesn't mean they are taking the charges they already face lightly. You forget, because of the issues that the basketball program faced in 2005, OSU could be considered a repeat offender.

I definitely didn't read all of the opening post or the ESPN article. I was under the assumption they weren't getting any penalties beyond there own self imposed ones. After reading the article my opinion obviously changes. Basically everything Davi said. OSU is definitely fucked once all of the punishments come down.

Here's the thing, nothing new has changed since they found out about the tat-5 besides tressels involvement. The ncaa allowed them to play in the bowl game after finding out what the players did. Osu put all the blame on tress in their letter. Todays ruling shows the ncaa agreed. When the car and more players getting tats allegations came out everyone thought that was the end. However it was proven nothing about the cars was true according to the ohio bmv. As for the additional players getting tats, some of the players named in those bogus articles don't even have tats and lawsuits are coming. And the self imposed penalties is pretty consistent with the rulings in similar cases just minus probation and loss of few scholarships.

Uh, have you not been paying any attention? It isn't just the tattoo 5. Its the 28 other players that were found to have cars they absolutely could not afford. Its the fact that the Ohio State Athletic Department had found Jim Tressell lacking in compliance numerous times before. Tattoogate was just the tip of the iceberg.

The Ohio motor vehicles thing wouldn't prove anything. Do you seriously think that if a car dealer were giving special deals to OSU players, that he wouldn't turn in falsified paperwork, so that it looked legit? Seriously, how naive can you be? From the DMV's perspective, of course it looks legit. Everyone knows that crooked businessmen keep two accounting ledgers, one for the public, official records, and then a second one that contains the REAL numbers. No car dealer in the world is going to turn in paperwork to the DMV showing that the players got the cars for significantly less than anyone else would, obviously they would doctor them to make them look real.

OSU put all the blame on Tressell because he was a loyal scapegoat. If he acts as the sacrificial lamb, it makes the program look less bad. DUH.

Ohio State played THIRTEEN games last year with ineligible players, then they blatantly lied about it to the NCAA.

if you were any deeper in denial, you would drown.

Lol at me being in denial. You do realise the investigation is over right? The car report is bogus. They said thaddeus gibson got a free car and it was proven false. The ncaa was in columbus investigating this month and found nothing. How is tressel lacking in compliance before the tip of the iceberg when the ncaa THEMSELVES said nothing else will be added on? Of course tressel being the scapegoat helps us look good. DUH. Thanks for helping me make my point. And osu didn't lie, tressel did and he's gone now. Now who's in denial? The only person drowning is your in your own pull of tears knowing we're still the class of the big ten while yall indiana status. Maybe you guys will win more games if yall stop scheduling powerhouses such as app state:)

Did you miss the news that came out a few weeks ago, where it was shown that Ohio State had already gotten on Tressel for non-compliance with the rules years ago? IE, Not only Tressel not following the rules, but Ohio State KNEW he wasn't following the rules, and tried to pretend innocence. OSU did lie. They blatantly lied to the NCAA that they had no knowledge of any issues with Tressel, when clearly, since they had already confronted him about it, they did.

Maybe we will win more games? 884 isn't enough? Michigan is already #1 in total wins AND winning percentage.

That was andy geigers findings not gene smith's. And if we saw the report so did the ncaa. And they still dismissed it. Whether you agree with them or not doesn't matter. The ncaa answers to no one but themselves and they said they're not adding nothing else on because the investigation is over. I respect michigan's history but that's all it is-history. We live in a what have you done for me lately society. Did you see that article on the top 25 desireable jobs in coll fball on either si or espn? Texas was first, osu was second admist the scandal and mich was somewhere around 13th. Nd has more chips than anyone but are they still considered among the elite? Nope. It's what have you done lately. All the wolverines have done lately is be the second best team in the state of michigan behind mark dantonio's squad. Being a former bucks assistant I know he's enjoying that.

So let me know if this is correct, because I'm usually horrible at understanding these things for some reason.

Since Jim Tressel didn't tell the school he was doing illegal things, that absolves the school of being punished for those things? That doesn't make any sense. Whether they knew or not, he still allowed the things to happen. If my friend brings some weed into my car and I don't know about it, I'm still getting arrested along with him if he gets caught with it. I know they're still going to get some kind of sanctions against them, but nothing like USC got. It seems to me they will get nothing more than a slap on the wrist.

All that is if I am understanding the situation correctly.

Yep. You understand it well. Bennett's espn article pretty much said what I did. SI has a mini article saying the same thing. Right or wrong we're getting off free.
