Ohio State could be in serious trouble...

Some of you may have heard the news, but Yahoo Sports is reporting that Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel knew about the NCAA rules violations committed by Terrell Pryor and four other players last April already, and not this last December like he and Ohio State President Gene Smith claimed.

Why is this potentially a major shit storm? Because the rules the players broke, selling their memoribilia etc, makes them ineligible to play. If Jim Tressel knew about it last April already, that means that he knowingly played five ineligible players for the entire season. The NCAA tends to frown on that. The players were guilty, of that there is absolutely no doubt. They already made news before the Sugar Bowl with their Five game suspensions starting NEXT year, rather than miss the bowl game/special experience bullshit. Many people were already questioning the punishment's timing...but if its true that Tressel lied, then Ohio State flat out lied to the NCAA.

Knowingly playing ineligible players, and trying to cover it up is the kind of thing that force seasons to be forfeited and coaches to be fired over. If true, this is a big fucking deal. I tend to believe that is true, personally. The reporter that broke the story this afternoon is the same reporter that originally broke the Reggie Bush/USC stuff that turned out to be completely true.

As a Michigan Wolverine fan, I would like to suggest a phrase that Buckeye fans should probably get to know...

"failure to promote an atmosphere of compliance".

Too add to this thread. Tressell was suspended by OSU for the first 2 games and fined 250 K. Now the punishment will be reviewed by the NCAA and I hope it is worse because it will be unfair too Dez Bryant who was suspended for 8 games for lying to the NCAA. Which is what the Vest did.

mmhmm. Something just seems inherently fishy about Tressel's explanation during the press conference too. He claims he didn't want to interfere with a Federal investigation...but when asked, he admitted that no Federal investigator had ever been in contract with him. Ummm....if nobody involved in the investigation told Tressel anything, how could he interfere with one? Makes no sense. The original story was that the players sold memorabilia...but then Tressel says it was about a drugs? Either way, Ohio State lied its ass off back in December. To your point, all De Bryant did was work out with Deion Sanders, and look at how hard the NCAA came down on him. But, since Ohio State is Ohio State, and Ohio State generates a lot of revenue for the NCAA, the NCAA will probably look the other way and let them off with a slap on the wrist.

Seeing the way the NCAA handled or didn't handle Cam Newton and Auburn, why impose any sanctions? They broke the rules... but its ok they are a popular program and bring in lots of money. I'm pretty sick on the NCAA picking and choosing which rules to enforce, I haven't been able to take college football seriously for the last 4-5 years thanks to all the bullshit like this thats involved.

As a buckeye fan I am very relieved with the decision. With saying that I understand why other people find this suspension to be light. For one thing the players got five and I would think logically he would get the same punishment. The reason he only received two was so he could coach the buckeyes when they bring their talents to south beach to play the hurricanes game 3. OSU recruits the MIAMI area tenaciously and couldn't afford not to have Tressel there for recruiting/coaching reasons.

I think and know the ncaa will review OSU athletic departments decision and I wouldn't be surprised if additional games are added.
