It is the 25th of April 2007, it is 92 years since the ANZAC forces landed at Gallipoli in Turkey. Today is a Day of Rememberance for all those that have died for New Zealand and Australia in Wars all over the World. This is not a pro-war or Anti-War thread this is a thread to remind everyone of the sacrifices that our Grandfathers, Great Grandfathers and Great Great Grandfathers made so that Life is how it is today.

Winston Churchill's actions with Gallipoli are strangely overlooked. Everyone just loves the War-Time Prime Ministers.

Those two countries have helped us so much

The Ode of Rememberance
They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

It's always a time of remembrance for Australians and New Zealanders around the world, but some of the respect that is meant to be garnered for the Anzac's has been lost in todays youth. No children are marching for them and few children know the real meaning of the word Anzac. In the minute of silence at the Anzac ceremony at my school the other day, children were talking, laughing and mobile phones were going off as if it was funny. It's meant to be about remembrance, but really, the phrase "Lest We Forget" couldn't be further to what children think of Anzac Day today.
