NBA Offseason

No? Explain Houston's record then. Average/below average players + Harden the awful defender who makes nobody better and is terrible with the ball. Explain the record.

Watching the games is extremely important. There's no way the Aussie does so.

Harden was first team All NBA and literally received every possible vote. All 100 voters put him on first team. "BAd with the ball".....LMAO.

I didn't say he was a bad player. He is an extremely talented player... who cared more about stats than winning. They aren't beating GS so I don't find the need to blame him. If it weren't for him, they would be awful. My point isn't even necessarily about Harden. My point is this: stats are a very small part of how you define an individual talent.

I never said a guy like Harden or Russ couldn't lead you to a good record. I said guys like that will never lead a team that is a true contender. Neither OKC or Houston were true contenders last year. In the NBA, there are 30 teams and 16 of them make the playoffs. That is over half the teams in the league, but that doesn't mean every playoff team is a contender. I mean, if you want a mid tier seed and a second round playoff exit each year, then yeah I guess Harden is working out well.

And not once has anyone called either guy a bad player. They are both good players. You can be good and still have flaws, which both guys have.

Out of curiosity, what makes a player good with the ball? All you are doing is pointing to their scoring prowess and solid assist numbers, and screaming that they are good with the ball.

What makes him good with the ball? Oh, I'd say the fact that he had the ball in his hands all the freakin time with mediocre talent around him and they won 57 games?

And no, obviously Houston wasn't content with surrounding Harden with scrubs.....which is why they got CP3. They greatly overachieved last year. They scored the second most points in the league.

Cared more about stats than winning? This is where you guys f up. By throwing out ridiculous, generic statements like that.

Houston won 57 games and had the third best record in the league. I'd say Harden did what he had to do to drag that team to a surprisingly successful season.

So who was better with the ball.....Eric Snow or Allen Iverson?

And realize Harden was carrying an even bigger offensive load for his team this year than Iverson did in 2001. "Bad with the ball"....SMH! He WAS their offense!

There is no such thing as "contending" in the West in 2017.

Nobody had Houston winning 57 games and having the third best record in the league. They overachieved.

Given that Harden is a horrible defender that is bad with the ball and only cares about his stats and was surrounded with mediocre talent, it must've been some kind of miracle that they did so well?

Just to be clear, I'm not arguing with you. I'm countering a point that was made about Harden and Russ not making their team contenders. I find this point invalid today as only injuries, tanking for years, Lebron, and taking advantage of idiots in Brooklyn could give any team the slightest chance of "contending".

Even though none of those methods proved to work in 2017 and does not appear to have much of a chance at working in 2018.

Harden and Russ are very good to great talents. They could stand to be more consistent and turn over the ball less but neither are "bad with the ball".

Got it. Though GS didn't build their team that way. They just drafted extremely well with Curry, Klay, and Greene. They, in a way, kindve lucked out at Curry's path to superstardom too as he was locked up to a great contract for the team by the time he became a superstar. That they had built a team that had already won a title and could afford to bring in KD? Crazy.

Thanks. What a well thought out, solid contribution to the topic.

You're acting like the regular season matters. It doesn't. Last year reinforced that. So the Rockets won a bunch of meaningless games. Cleveland dropped to the second seed in the East and had people thinking they were breaking down. Then LeBron decided to start winning and they crushed the entire Eastern Conference with ease.

The real teams who contend understand regular season means nothing. Golden State had to learn the hard way by winning 73 pointless games and then choking away a title. The Rockets didn't overachieve. They were a first or second round team when the season started and they ended up in the spot we all expected them to be. The amount of games they won is meaningless if they ended up in the same spot.

Right, except I don't see anyone else replicating that in the near future. GS is an enigma, an anomaly that someone (Jerry West?) deserves some type of Nobel prize for putting together.

Man, maybe it's my fault for expecting decent bball discussion on a wrestling forum. But this another half - baked, half thought out, ultimately stupid post that takes stupid generic, general stances.

GS lost the title in 2016 because of the regular season? Word? Could've sworn they were a game away from a title and then Greene got suspended.

Houston greatly overachieved. Most forecasts had them battling for an 8 seed. So even going to the second round would be overachieving. You're so pressed to make your little point that you're overdoing it.

You accuse everyone else of making generic blanket statements, then you do this? Like honestly, I laid out why guys like Russ and Harden aren't good with the ball. I never called them bad players, I simply made my argument and supported it with reasons for my position.

All you do is say "Russ was MVP and Harden was runner up, that makes them good with the ball." You provide no evidence otherwise. His team won and he was the best player so that makes him good with the ball? I guess anyone who runs the offense on a losing team is bad with the ball then.

If Harden was so great and so good with the ball, he wouldn't have shit the bed in the playoffs for the third straight year with his non existent defense, constant turnovers and poor shot selection that led to runs where he was missing ten shots in a row.

At this point I'm convinced that you either A) are sexually attracted to James Harden or B) are mentally ******ed. Probably a little of both, but I'm not one to judge.

LOL! You clowns are all the same.....say a bunch of stupid shit, then get offended and disrespectful when the discussion isn't going your way. What a hoe.

You ignored the primary point....just a simple oversight, I'm sure. It's not just that Houston won and Harden is their best player. It's that Houston's entire offense was built around Harden. "Bad with the ball"....just flat out stupid.

The better teams win in the playoffs.....no shit. Bad things happen when your team isn't that good. They weren't exactly loaded with options, so yeah.....it's lights out when Harden goes cold. Not his fault they had nothing else. Now they bring in CP3, and you'll probably see the incredibly efficient Harden go to an even higher level there.

For the record, I don't even like Harden and can't stand Pringles. But real recognize real. He's a great offensive player and that team overachieved like hell. Y'all stupid ass talking points ain't going unchecked. Learn the game.

The Aussie's got nothing of substance to add to the topic. Shocker.

I'm gonna say it now as a warning, but you are dangerously close to an infraction for prejudiced remarks. If you said you thought he was stupid and didn't know anything about basketball, that's fine. When you say that he doesn't know anything because of his nationality, then it borders on hate speech. Never mind that Australia is the quickest rising team in international basketball. The team that had the second best record in group stage in the 2016 Olympics clearly can't know anything about the game.

Calls me "******ed" in one post, and in the next tells me to stop with the "prejudiced" remarks. Are you a real person?

The stupidity there is off the charts.

Australia's basketball accomplishments are minuscule next to the U.S.'s and their exposure to the NBA is not nearly the same. And this clown was not on the 2016 Olympic team. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that I've watched a lot more NBA games than he has. That's not hate speech, you dumb, pressed clown. Stupidest post ever. I'd appreciate an apology.

Does the LB in LBGetBack stand for Lavar Ball?

Nope. Little Brother. GetBack. Name of a group and album.

Rainbow guy got disrespectful out of the clear blue with me. It was just a bball conversation and suddenly he called me ******ed and sexually attracted to Harden. Then he comes with the reach of the century talking about hate speech. The guy clearly is just trying to "get me", and falls back on being a moderator and trying to find an infraction to do so. Pathetic.

I ain't the bad guy here. Just talking hoops and pointing out how ridiculously stupid it is for these guys to trash one of the best offensive players in the league as being "bad with the ball".

That time James Harden had 10 points, 7 assists and 6 turnovers with the season on the line in game six against the Spurs. 2-11 from the field for the runner up to the MVP.
