National Sports Holiday

Thriller Ant

Beep Bop Boop
Today is one of the biggest days on the sports calender in the U.S. and Canada. Tonight, Butler and Duke will face off to be crowned the NCAA Men's Basketball National Champion. Meanwhile, throughout the day, many Major League Baseball teams will begin their season on Opening Day.

As someone who loves baseball and college basketball, I sat in my apartment last night contemplating just taking the day off and enjoying a day filled with sports. No classes, no homework, no going to my job; just myself, my beverage of choice, and my laptop and TV.

So what this thread is for is to find that one day or a couple days, that would be your Sports Holiday. The first round of the NCAA tournament? A couple days of the World Cup Group stages? Something I've never heard of?

A couple rules:

1. It has to be on a day most people wouldn't have off, so weekends and days such as Memorial Day are off limits.
2. It can be no more than a 2 day holiday. The first round of the NCAA tourney is OK, but the entire group stage of the World Cup isn't.
3. Obviously, tell us why. This is non-spam, and I want to know why you choose what you chose.

Have at it!

For me it's easy. I'd go with NFL Draft weekend. It's now a three day event but for the sake of this thread I'll just go with the first three rounds which take place on a Thursday and Friday night.

Also while the NFL draft is going on the NBA and NHL are in the first round of the playoffs and the MLB season is just three weeks in. So not only do I get to watch one of my favorite events in the NFL draft, I also get games from the other three major sports with two of those sports being in the playoffs.

I can't think of anything better then the NFL draft, playoff basketball and hockey, and some early MLB season games.

my favorite sports are baseball and hockey. not a big college basketball fan, but still, my national sports holiday has to be the first two days of the NCAA tournament. It is just nonstop, great basketball games from 12:00 and on. every man has their bracket in hand, hoping that they rightly predicted that 12 seed over the 5th seed. most of the time, something great happens. some big upsets, improbable comebacks, and of course, buzzer beaters!

the magic of march madness is something special and even if it is not my favorite sport to watch, i would spend my only off day to stay home and watch these games.
