My daughter needs additional testing..

Ty Burna

Getting Noticed By Management
For hearing loss. Now based on what I've read, typically it's just temporary at birth, as she is a month old now. The checklist if she can hear me says:

Startle or cry at loud noises
awaken or stir to loud noises
appear to listen to voices

And she does all three. I got a letter today saying she needs additional testing for this, and here I sit freaking the hell out. So for anyone out there with kids, have y'all ever needed additional hearing testing for your child(ren)? Is it something I should be worried about?

Yeah, I had the same thing with my little girl. She apparently just didn't respond the way they wanted the first time. I assume it's just because she wasn't interested in what they had to say.

For the record, my daughter hears just fine.

I'm glad to hear that Dexter, that makes me feel a lot better. She should get tested on Thursday, I'm assuming she will check out fine. I appreciate it man, you've calmed me way down.

Best of luck with it Ty. I am sure that she will be fine.

Keep us updated matey, thoughts are with you!

Usually concerning the children at this age, it is just for extra care & double checking from what I learned in childrens psychology. Sometimes they just don't take responses to somethings & doctors have to assume the worst in every occassion. If she seems to be responding properly with those three mentioned, then I will bet that she is going to turn out fine for the better part.

Best of luck though

I wouldn't freak out...For the first few months after Zack was born they thought he was having vision problems because he wasn't doing all the things on the checklist, but he's fine, and sees shit I can't see. I'm not saying everything is perfect, as obviously they feel the tests are needed for something, but I wouldn't get in a panic over it until they actually say something is wrong. Good luck with it all too :)

Well kinda on this note, I burst both my ear drums soon after birth so I was deaf for the first year or so of my life before they healed. It took the doctors months before they figured this out though. But beyond being a bit of a late speaker it had no long term effects on me-children apparently heal pretty quickly. Best of luck for your daughter :)
