Mike Vick

Welcome to My (And Not Sly's) House
Today the Atlanta Falcons say that they want to trade the rights to Vick who is due to be released from prison in July. This is a very simple question: would you want your team to sign Vick?

My answer is yes. While his skills have likely taken a huge hit in prison, there's still a natural talent that with the right training can be brought out of him. Certainly not at quarterback but maybe at running back or receiver. To the best of my memory he was never a serious problem when it came to on the field. People come to see him play as he's one of the best athletes in the game. When he's in the right system he's nothing short of deadly. With the rise of the Wildcat offense, it's easy to see him making some great contributions to an offense or maybe even a defense on occasion.

Also, it would tick the hell out of PETA.

If my team were having issues at any of the offensive "skill positions", or even at returner, then maybe...MAYBE...I'd say yes. Desperate times call for desperate measures. There's a number of things weighing against Vick ever playing for my team (the New York Giants).

1.) It's New York. The mecca of the sports world. The media is over-bearing most of the time, and there's no way he'd ever be able to live down what happened. He wouldn't be able to get on with his career, and would never be half the player he was in a much smaller media market.

2.) We don't need him. With Eli Manning at Quarterback, and with us already having one of the best running back situations in the league, there's no reason to sign him. He would never see the field as a QB, and would only get limited playing time as a Running Back. As far as signign him as a Wide Receiver, I'm against it. The talent that we have there still needs their shot at being starters, so there's no reason to sign someone that has never played the position to play there.

3.) We have a young team. We don't need this kind of negative publicity swirling around the young players on the squad. Yes, Burress had his own mistake last year, but that's one guy, and we knew the risk when we signed him. He'll be gone (if we're smart), and we'll be starting a new season without him. Team chemistry is important, and we don't need to take the chance at ruining it, just to have another big name.

Well, my team is the Patriots, so obviously the answer to that question is no because they don't need someone like him.

But for other teams, I don't think he could return as a quarterback right now, lets face it he wasn't that great of a passer when he had training camp and the season to work with.. now he's just getting out of jail and hasn't seen action in a while, so he's going to be rusty as hell to say the least.

He has quickness and athletisism, which teams look for though. So as a punt returner or a hybrid wide receiver/RB type of role, he might excell. Who knows, my guess would be Dallas taking a shot on this guy. They took a chance on Pacman Jones and TO, so the distraction part of the equasion probably won't be a factor at all in the decision.

Good luck in Dallas, Vick.

Hmmmmm.......Michael Vick, DeAngelo Williams, and Jonathan Stewart would make a awesome triple threat. Then you have to factor in the fact that Jake Delhomme sucks........So the answer is HELL YES I would sign him. The guy has a ton of potential. I've been a big Vick fan ever since he was a Virginia Tech Hokie (my college team) annd I know for a fact that he's a phenomenal athelete. People just need to get off their high horses and realize that Vick just made a mistake. Everyone makes mistakes, Vick just happened to be a very famous guy that made a very bad mistake. I even think he could still be a QB for a team.

The teams that I see him going to are the 49ers & possibly the Raiders cause the quarterbacks aren't really good with the guys that are already under center(JaMarcus Russel & whoever the fuck is the 49ers QB). Now if there are teams that wanna use him for something other than a quarterback then it's really a toss up.

First, get the fuck off my team's band-wagon. :lmao:

Second, what potential? Anything he may of had, is long since gone. He was a stud runner. And why was he a stud runner? Because he was the only guy that 9 outta 10 times, isn't going to be guarded by more than one person.. whom he could always likely out-run.

Once teams began realizing he couldn't throw the ball worth a shit, they began blocking up-front, and Vick failed. (ie. Ryan has the same targets Vick had, and he took then to a playoff game without needing to run them there)

Vick is going to be very out of "football shape" and in dire need of retooling. On top of that, regardless if ANY team tries him out.. they will take the boat-load of media that will come with it.. and that's not good media, either. So my answer is NO.

I think Vick will receive try-outs, but he'll doubtfully be used as a starter.. unless it's to a team like Detroit. Or possibly the Jets, but I doubt that since they likely had their fill with Broadway Brett.

The complete irony would be Vick signing with an animal team.. like, the Browns w/ the "dog pound". :lmao:

Firstly, he absolutely positively should be re instated. You would be an idiot to suggest otherwise. The man spent over a YEAR in federal prison, and not only that, one of the worst ones there is. He lost every dime, car, and house he had. He lost EVERYTHING. he has paid for his crime, and should be allowed to progress through life.

Second, i would love it if the 49ers sighned him. If there is one thing we severely lack, its playmakers.Vick was one of the most frightening playmakers in the league every year he was in. Not a great QB, but a playmaker nonetheless. I doubt it would happen though, as the niners have always proded themselves on not picking up anyone with legal/character problems (they couldnt trade TO fast ENOUGH), and San Francisco is a city that is fucking FANATICAL about how PC it is. SO highly unlikely my dream comes true :(

Im a Lions fan and they are talking about it alot here on some of the local sports radio shows. It seems many of the fans would be all for it, where as Im not so sure. If you could sign him for a short contract with a reasonable price I guess Id be for it since it basically would be a no lose situation but if you're going to have to give up something to get him then take on a big contract no thanks. I would really like to see a workout from him first, particularly what his 40 time is now because without his speed he is basically a worthless QB unless he magically figured out how to manage a game, put touch on the ball or throw for accuracy.

By the way I dont even know if it is going to be a foregone conclusion that he is even going to be reinstated. Yes he was out of the NFL the last couple years but the NFL technically never suspended him, he was just in prison so he obviously couldnt play. I wouldnt be surprised to see Goodell tack a suspension on since other players that were convicted of crimes got them

The Steelers don't need a Mike Vick, but I bet the Bucs are thinking about taking him. He would be a solid fit in Tampa.

There are a lot of teams that should try to get Mike Vick and there are a lot of reasons why.

1. Teams will be able to get him for the veterans minimum so why not take a chance. There really isn't a lot to lose.

2. With the wild cat offense working so good for the Dolphins last year, there are a lot of teams that will start experimenting with it, and Mike Vick is perfect for that offense.

3. He can play a lot of different positions. You can play him at quarterback, running back, receiver, and he can return kicks and punts.

The 49ers, Raiders, Lions, Dolphins, Vikings, Chiefs, Panthers, Ravens, Seahawks and probably a lot of other teams should all give him a real good look because he could really help those teams.

My guess is that he will be reinstated and go to the 49ers or Seahawks. His former head coach and O coordinator are both in Seattle and they may need a qb if they trade Hassleback. The 49ers would be a good fit because they need a qb, Singletary is a great no non-sense coach that could help Vick get on track, and there have been reports that the 49ers are going to sign Dan Reeves as their Offensive Coordinator. Also the Raiders should never be counted out for obvious reasons.

First of all Big S....as a Niners fan I can tell you firsthand that the Niners would NEVER ever go after Michael Vick. We have sucked for farr too long to take a chance on someone who has been in jail for soo long. If the Niners are going to build a team, it will be with a Quarterback that is young and in their care. Vick is none of those 2 things. I highly doubt anyone would want him as he will cause major drama and baggage to whomever he ends up on. The fact of the matter is that Michael Vick has a lot of work to do if he ever wishes to return to football. And Big S, your last comment made absoulutely no sense. How the hell can Dan Reeves become head coach if Mike Singletery is head coach? Besides, the Niners are better off with what they have.

Well to answer your question, no I don't want Vick on my team. But that's because my team is the New Orleans Saints. We have arguably the hottest QB in the league (who came up 15 yards short of breaking Marino's season passing record) and a couple fast backs so we dont need him. What we need is a power back and a defensive coordinator, but that's another topic.

Now having said that, I absolutely contend that Vick should and will get another shot. He made a huge mistake, and he payed for it...big time! We'll see if he truly learned his lesson, but I definitely think generally people deserve a second chance and this is a case where he should get one. There are a number of teams that could use his services. Apparently the 49ers would be a good fit as they want to have a running team and there is no better running QB, or at least there wasn't. And you don't just lose talent so with some training he'll be back.
But I think what better fit is there than Minnesota? Great defense, good o-line, decent receivers, amazing running game, QB sucks. Could you imagine the threat of having Vick and Adrian Peterson in the backfield? That would scare even the best defense to death. I'm anxious to see if he gets his shot, and how it folds out if he does.

How the hell can Dan Reeves become head coach if Mike Singletery is head coach?

I meant to say Offensive Coordinator.

Besides, the Niners are better off with what they have.

So they are better off with Alex Smith, Shaun Hill, and JT O'Sullivan?

They say any publicity is good publicity but Vick's publicity is not the kind of publicity that the Niners want to attract and frankly those 3 (really 2 because O'Sullivan is no longer with the team) are much better basically because you wouldnt have to watch them on a 24-7 basis. Besides, do you honestly believe Vick to possess the same talent after he has been away from the game for so long? No, it wont happen.

Just because he was away for a while it doesn't mean that he lost his talent. He will be rusty and it will take him a while to adjust, but I'd still rather have him over Smith and Hill.
No, it wont happen.

When Mike Singletary was asked about the idea of getting Vick he didn't rule it out, so it could happen.

Mike Singletary was being courteous Im sure. Look Big S, you have to put yourself in the position of a team owner. Would you want to put a team's state of mind in danger by having a player who has a well known background in something illegal? You have seen what happens when a troublemaker goes to a new team, he usually brings his baggage with him, which is why I think it would be a horrible idea for the Niners to even consider bringing in Vick. We are not that far away from being competitive. And before you bash Shaun Hill, the kid has a winning record, something many non-Niners fans forget. Mike Nolan was the idiot that brought the team down. I believe Hill would be fine if he were given a full season to operate.

Ron Mexico absolutely needs to be let back into the NFL. I mean doesn't everyone make mistakes? His happened to be in the form of Dog Fighting. Pacman Jones pulled a gun on, made it rain, and pratically punched a woman for touching his money and he was reinstated for some unknown reason. Sure he didn't spend time in jail, but truthfully i didn't know dogfighting was illegal.

He could probably still contribute depending on what shape he is in. Im pretty sure hes in good physical shape, considering the prison probably had a weight area. Now at what position, not too sure, depends on what team he goes to. If its a team with a huge QB need, then of course he will probably stay at QB. But any other teams it could be slot, RB, use in a wildcat, or whichever else. Point is he is a PLAYMAKER, and teams would love to have a playmaker of Vicks caliber on their team. Of course im assuming he has at least some of the talent he had before he was put into prison.

Everyone says that PETA is going to go crazy over it, and they will. But really, there has been worse things people have done that dog fighting. Like said earlier, PacMan punched a person, pulled a gun out, supposedly paralyzed someone with a shot from his gun, and when he came back i don't remember there being much outcry i could be wrong. But since its Vick, since its an animal, PETA is going to try to flaunt their so called power and try to prevent Vick from playing again. Where were those same people to protest PacMan, i mean i know they work for an animal group, but come on don't be so close minded to what PacMan did.
