Phoenix

WZCW's First Triple Crown Champion
Despite the loss to Blade last week, Phoenix got people asking questions as he shook hands with the Prodical Son. This week he faces a man that he last saw only a couple of weeks before the Lethal Lottery, the returning Matt Fox. Fox was last seen defeating the former Tag Champion in a match that lead to his eventual loss of the belts, no question that Phoenix hasn't forgotten about that. Will Phoenix complete the task at hand alone or will there be a surprise or two from the returning giant?

Deadline is Tuesday 27th July 23:59 EST

The scene opens in a typical backstage interview area. Becky Serra looks over her notes one last time before an off-screen producer begins counting down from 3 to start the interview. A moment after he says one, she looks up at the camera and begins.

Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome my guest at this time, Phoenix.

Phoenix walks onto the screen calmly. He takes the microphone out of Becky’s hand, and covers her mouth with his own hand before he begins talking.

A handshake. It’s a simple gesture, really. Two men extend their hands, they clasp together, move as one for a brief moment, and go their separate ways. On the surface, it’s as basic an interaction as you can find anywhere. Would you agree with this, Becky?

She rapidly nods yes, looking both nervous and curious about what is about to happen.

But we can’t let anything be that simple, can we? This simple gesture that occurs millions of times around the world everyday can’t just be two people clasping hands. You have to make sure you squeeze too hard or too soft. You can’t shake for too long. A handshake can be a sign of peace, of greeting, of agreement, or of farewell. Leave to the human species to take a simple gesture and weigh it down so much with “deeper meaning.”

Becky has an “Aha!” look on her face and pulls the mic that Phoenix is holding in front of her face and begins talking.

This is about what happened with Blade after your match with him last week, isn’t it?!

(As if he’s speaking to a child) Yes, Becky! You’re just so smart now aren’t you?

Becky’s face quickly changes to a look of anger as Phoenix moves the microphone back in front of his mouth and continues speaking.

I’ve been trying to figure it out for a week now. Was it simply a kind gesture after a hard fought match? Was it an offer for a truce? Was it simply a farce to get me off my game? I really don’t know what your agenda is. But let me give you two responses.

First, if you want some kind of truce, it’s gonna take a lot more than a handshake to earn my trust. Because even though I’ve seen how great a partnership can be, my lasting memories will always be the pain and destruction left behind when it disintegrates. And if you are just trying to mess with me…well, let’s just say that you have opened a can of worms that can only be closed with your blood.

There is an uncomfortable pause. After a moment, Phoenix hands the microphone back to Becky and turns to walk away, but she begins speaking before he can leave.

Umm, Phoenix? Can I get your thoughts on your match this week against Matt Fox? The last time we saw him was…

We know when the last time we saw him was. And we will not be discussing what happened that night. Mostly because he is not to blame for the events set in motion on Meltdown those months ago. I blame my partner from that night and the idiot Fox was partnered with. That doesn’t mean his return will be enjoyable, however. I have a loss last week that I’m not happy about, and I think reminding Matt Fox of just how tough WZCW is will be a perfect way to take out my frustrations.

And Blade, I want answers, and they better be sooner rather than later. You may have gotten the better of me last week, but if I don’t get answers I will rain down a pain you can’t even fathom onto you.

Phoenix gives a stern look at the camera and a nod to Becky before walking off-camera as the screen fades to black.

People hurry down a crowded sidewalk on a hot LA day not paying attention to anything around them, no cares of the outside world, except theirs. The go on about their lives thinking it'll be just another day in paradise so to speak. But everyone knows on any given day things can change. Today things change. Hundreds of people cross a street as the signal switches to "WALK", just like they have all their life. However a city bus trying to stop, can't, it's brakes fail. It plows through the crosswalk, sending people scattering and flying. Horror and panic hit the street in an instant. A day in paradise has now become a day in hell. Many die, many are seriously and critically injured. It's a sad day for many. But hey shit happens and life goes on. What can you do? Nothing... what will happen, will happen. You always expect the unexpected and never doubt for a moment that your life could change in the blink of an eye.

Matthew Fox was standing on the sidewalk watching the masses as the tragedy unfolded. With unblinking eyes and an expressionless face he watched it happen. His hand tucked away in his jeans pockets, he just stood there watching. After the bus stopped, people rushed past Fox to go help the injured. Fox just shook his head and turned and walked off, rescue rigs screaming by him, he doesn't even flinch. In fact a grin spreads across his face. What has he become?

The scene fades black, then a dark red color starts running from the top of the screen, like blood from a wound. A dark laughter is heard, then static. Moments later the screen re-opens to show Matthew Fox leaning in a corner at the end of an alley. He sighs and stare into the camera he has set up.

Fox: Life and Death, the two most powerful forces on earth. God and Satan. Good and Evil, Love and Hate. All need the other to survive. Without evil there could be no good, for how would we know what it was? Without Satan, what would God be? Not much if you ask me. Without hate, how could we feel love? We wouldn't understand the feeling. Without life there is no reason for death and without death, how could we live? For those that have died in times past, they have paved the way for us to live. Yet when it comes to life and death we are bound by an eternal clock. One that we have no control over when it ends, just as those in the bus accident found out today. I used to fear death, but no more, I have came to realize that there is nothing to fear in this mortal world, not even death. It is a natural part of life. The minute you come bawling into this world, you start to die. You can learn much from just sitting by and watching other's lives pass them by. In theory we have free will, the ability to do what we please when we please, in reality that isn't so. The masses are governed by the clock of life and the hand of fate. Our paths may not be laid out in front of us, but the end is, for when we get there it's not up to us on how we do it. My path has become clear over the years and I now know I was ment to become a wrestler. However up until last month I had no idea what fate had in store for me. People always talk about being God's gift to this or that.... however no one ever talks about being the Devil's gift to this and that. For everything good, there is and equal amount of evil. My path became clear once I understood this is what I was supposed to do. It's who I am, and what I am destined to do. I am the Devil's gift to wrestling. I am the one man who will take this promotion and turn it upside down. Through me the Devil will do his work. Because of me... many of you will meet your downfall.

Fox pushes off from the wall and steps closer to the camera, running a hand through his wild black hair. He then scratches at his goatee and stares intently into the camera.

Fox: As you well know by now, I have returned to WZCW. I will admit that my first little stint, did not turn out how I had planned. Thank you though to Phoenix who deemed it necessary to drudge up those painful memories. However, what is done is done. You would all do well not to base what happened in the past, to what will happen now that I have returned. I am not the man I was before, I have changed and it was only a matter of time before it happened. This change will make some of your worst nightmares come to life. Deepest fears will be realized. Pain, agony, suffering will all become common in this promotion. I am man sent by the Devil himself, and a man sent by the devil himself wields a lot of power. If you flip through the history books, their pages will be littered with name such as Satan, Hitler, Attila the Hun, Pol Pot, Stalin and many other evil men. Soon those same pages will forever altered as my name joins those men. Ladies and gentlemen, the dawn of a new era is upon you, the second coming of "Superstar" Matthew Fox is here. The Devil's Gift to Wrestling has arrived.

A glow almost seems to radiate from Fox's eyes as he tilts his head and continues to stare in the camera. A twisted smile plays upon Fox's lips as he seems to let his mind wander for a moment. Slowly he blinks his eyes and focuses his intense gaze back at the camera.

Fox: It must be destiny again Phoenix that it is you who I face in my first match back. Phoenix you talked about your frustrations, your frustrations? What do you have to be frustrated about? The only feeling that should be running through you body right now, is pure and simple fear. You want to remind me of just how tough WZCW can be? I do not think so, but I will remind you of just who the hell I am. You see Phoenix, victory will not be attainable for you, it will be nothing more than a whisper in the air that will pass you by. Your defeat will be swift, but the pain will last for a long time. You see Phoenix I will not only physically beat you, but I will destroy your very essence, your core, your heart and soul will ripped from you, just as those poor bastards in that crosswalk today. I am coming Phoenix and their is nothing you or anyone else in this God forsaken place can do about it.

Fox turns and walks off, a dark laughter filling the air again as the screen fades to black.
