MD100: Ty Burna vs. Big Dave

Does it bother you David? Does it bother you that I have taken far more from you, then you from me?

The scene opens to the broken temple that Ty had frequented many times before, the large wooden Chaos symbol sitting high above the crumbling altar. Wood floors creak and moan as if the spirits of those long gone roam the hall itself. A long shadow is cast down the aisle, as the Harbinger makes his presence known, walking slowly past the pews, his hands sliding along them as he walks, flames emitting from his mere touch on the rotting wood, the fire feasting on it lustliy. The camera moves up to reveals Ty's face, his eyes glowing red already, his black hair wildly falling around him, the ever present smirk on his face.

Ty: David, David, David. We come full circle once again. Two WZCW legends. Two of the biggest names in WZCW history. You have been tied to my name for so long, just as everyone else in this company has been tied to me. Showtime, my most hated rival. Drake Callahan, a man driven insane by the mere mention of my mastery, Titus, a man who has sworn hatred by my name, Barbosa, a man who many say is the new me. All these men have defined their lives and careers not by their accomplishments, but what I have personally done to them. And so it continues David. Our history speaks for itself doesn't it? Or perhaps they don't remember. They try not to recall the most lackluster World Title reign in history, the reign that the unfortunate task of trying to live up to my own. A footnote in the history of the World Title that I elevated to the greatness it now holds.

Ty's head lowers slightly, his fingers resting on the middle pews as the fire begins enveloping the previous ones, no resistance is show as the fires flare up around him. It begins crawling along the floor, making it's way to the walls as various images of Christendom begin to fall as well to the Harbinger's flames.

Ty: I told you nights before Lethal Lottery III that you were the chosen one to end it. That you would be my hand picked challenge. The defunct Ouija spoke otherwise, yet you hung on my every word, your own ego completely inflated that the soothsayer sung praises in your name, only to find yourself at the end of the macabre spell I had wove inside your mind. Why is it you trusted me David? Because I was the honorable warrior that carried the World Title? He was a man the people supported, he couldn't possibly lie.

Laughter begins to escape Ty as he slowly lifts his head back, a wide smirk on his face as his eyes widen as well. He lifts his hands up and pushes them back behind him, almost as if gathering the flames behind him into his hands.

Ty: You know the story of the snake and the old man David, it does not bear repeating. There are no true challenger ever to me. They have all fallen, whether it requires a match or not, they have all suffered by my mere words. They dig deep under the skin of my enemies, piercing through them like the sharpest of spears. I find it ironic however David, that I stand on the precipice of ending your career once again. I put you out of your pathetic misery when I led WZCW to it's greatest heights as it's owner, only for my weak and miserable former protege to give you a reprieve on your death sentence. I assure you there will be no mercy shown your way this time, and I will put an end to this once and for all! It drives me mad David, that they would give someone so inept as you the power that I once had. Do you not know what could be done with such power? No, of course not. Your simple mind could not comprehend the depths that you could go to to mold WZCW into your own vision.

Ty brings his arms back in front of him slowly, the fire now flaring up from his palms as he stares forward, the smile disappearing slowly from his face.

Ty: Power is only useful in the right hands David. And though the cowards Banks and Bateman wouldn't dream of giving me any opportunity to hold power once again in this company, I will ensure that you won't either. The status quo has gone on long enough! Stability breeds staleness. And now, let us give Chaos the opportunity it deserves once again!

Ty throws his hands outwards and the fire goes through the air, hitting the large wooden Chaos symbol, igniting it immediately and it burns brightly through the dark temple. Ty walks swiftly to the alter, his hands igniting the remaining pews as he walks. He stands in front of the altar, kneeling down slowly, his head pressed to the marble altar.

Ty: And so this task has fallen to me David. The Harbinger resurrected once more. You may call me evil, vile, hated, whatever words you try have no effect as mine do on you. I am all these, and I am none of these. Alpha and Omega. I am the creator, and I am also the destroyer. I begot your reign as Meltdown GM, and I shall take it away from you as well. Every action has a consequence, and I will deliver unto you the perfect response to that mistake!

Ty slowly raises up off his knee, his hands spreading out to his sides as he stares up at the burning Chaos symbol, the fire reflecting back from his eyes as the flames lash out violently. A laughter emits from Ty one again, echoing through the inferno in the temple.

Ty: Do you believe me to be bitter David? That you first took my World Title, and then denied me twice from reclaiming it? I have news for you David, of course I am bitter. My hatred for your actions burns brighter than even the most personal slights that others have attempted against me. Meltdown 100 is the culmination of that hatred David. As Banks himself approached me and asked if I were able to wrestle at such a historic show, all I could think about was one final moment. The final moment that has eluded me for so long. Your career will belong to me David, something far more valuable to you than a job or a championship. It will eat you alive for as long as you live, that the Harbinger of Chaos was your ultimate demise. You have stirred the beast for too long, narrowly avoiding your destruction at each turn. Your chances have run out now David, and so I will take nothing but joy in putting the stake in your heart!

Ty slowly levitates off the ground, gravitating immediately to the Chaos symbol, his body melting to the burning symbol. His arms stretch out straight, his legs crossed, though his head remains held high.

Ty: Look not at me as your destruction David. Look to me as your savior! I give you the opportunity to go out in the only way that those like us deserve to. You have the opportunity to go out fighting on your feet. I have saved you from the doldrums of politics that WZCW likes to run. I saved you from those meetings every week, to sit and put up with the competition bothering you constantly. No longer will you listen to the dregs of this company, their boasting and bravado nothing more than hollow statements, knowing that you should be the one battling for the opportunities they want you hand them on a silver platter. They know nothing of what we went through David! And so, let me give you your sweet release from a worse fate then death. Take my hand and you will no longer be the mediator between Banks and his employees. I will restart your life for you David, and all it will take is one kick to the head to reignite that fire and that drive your soul.

Ty throws his head back as the fire continues to surround him, soon only his head and hair being the only parts visible amidst the flames. The walls collapse around the temple, revealing the large red swirling miasma surrounding the small decrepit land the temple was on, rocks crumbling and falling into the never ending torment.

Ty: And as soon as I ignite that fire, I shall extinguish it once more! Built up to be torn down. I want to see that one last bite in you dog! Regain your bark so I may be the one to silence it forever! You have allowed them to neuter you not unlike what they tried with me! I will never become the puppet of such weak fools like you have David. And so I will take your strength, and I will take everything you have left, and it will become mine. I will change this company for the better once again, be glad David that your sacrifice will be for a worthy cause once more.

The crazed look on Ty's face disappears, his hair now engulfed too. He closes his eyes as he speaks one final time.

Ty: They have pushed us out of the way David. And rather than take us out back and put us down like a man with honor would, they throw in the ring and hope we tear each other apart. And while we have come too far to step away now, let it be known that whoever survives this, must remind WZCW, no, the world just exactly why we are still the best in this forsaken company!

Ty: Thus it is written.

The flames finally engulf him, and the scene goes to black for a few moments. Suddenly a red glow begins as Ty opens his eyes once more.

Ty: So it shall come to pass.

Insane laughter echoes throughout the feed as the eyes slowly close as the scene cuts to nothing but static.

The CFE Arena is sparse and empty, with the exception of the stage crew disassembling the Ascension stage so to prepare for After Shock for the following night. The WZCW roster have left a few hours earlier and the only company members left backstage in the arena are the General Managers of the respective shows, Big Dave and Chuck Myles. Dave has been providing Chuck with all the significant details regarding Ascension 75 so that he can run the show in his place, Dave has reassured him that this isn’t an accepting an early defeat, but that the importance of his match with Ty Burna must take priority over his duties as General Manager. These actions have been approved by Mr. Banks so once the final details are checked over, Chuck leaves his office. Dave sits staring in thought, distant before giving the office a full observation before he grabs the lid of his laptop, only to stop to notice something he didn’t expect to see in the corner, a scorpion. He does a double take on the arachnid before he noticed it has gone, causing him to jump back from his chair to check the floor thoroughly in case the creature had crept up on him without him realising, only to find nothing. Dave sighs as he rubs his face to realise he’s tired as he goes to close his laptop once again, taking small note of a number on the screen; 74.

Once Dave has items and possessions collected, he proceeds to walk towards the exit of the arena before a thought enters his mind and he chooses to head out into the arena as the stage crew are on a break. He gives a nod to crewman Joey and Mike as he walks by to his destination, the ring. Dave places his jacket and items on the edge of the apron as he climbs up and enters through the ropes. He paces gently around the squared circle to remember the feeling of being inside the ring as a competitor, it’s been so long that it feels odd to think beyond his current duties as a General Manager, back to the old life he once knew, the life that Ty had ended once before him with two words during his reign as WZCW’s owner. Dave sits up on the turnbuckle and lets the events recall themselves in his mind; Meltdown 76, he was a referee in the World Title Match between Ty and Showtime Cougar. Ty kept pushing and pushing him to his limits to the point that many thought Dave had finally cracked and gave Showtime the Stamp of Authority. Within the madness and the smile on Ty’s face, Dave caught them all off-guard and gave his long-time rival the Checking Out before dragging Showtime over him and counting the fall. The World Heavyweight Championship was safe from Ty’s grasp and the cost of that predicament was Dave sacrificing his career so that Ty could never be the champion again. While many praise the efforts of Chris K.O. for reclaiming the company back from Ty and bringing peace to the company once more, Dave never forgets the sacrifice he made, Ty has never attempted to go after the Championship since that night because Dave made the ultimate sacrifice.

Dave is startled from his daydream from the stage crew resuming with their work and decides that it’s time to call it a night. He climbs down from the turnbuckle and out of the ring, but as he collects his items, he spots it again, the scorpion. The creature has applied a defensive stance with its pedipalps spread out and its tail uncoiled, ready to strike and defend the ring as its territory. Dave can’t help but look at it as it looks back at him, neither wish to submit to fear and back down from either, but once Dave takes a deep breath and blinks again, the scorpion has once again vanished. Dave knows it’s time to call it a night and chooses to leave the arena as he entered it, looking closely at the LED display of the show that was on earlier in the evening; Ascension 74.

The next morning welcomed an exhausted Dave, he tried to sleep but all he could see in his dreams was the scorpion, he would give himself the time to examine his thoughts, but he was too tired to care that his morning tea was only giving him enough energy to face the world. The Orlando morning was slowly waking due to the late sunrise that it has, Dave always found the sunrise fascinating because no matter where he went and how different the sunrise was to him, he always missed the sunrise that came in London, it always felt unique to him. He didn’t realise how much he missed that small detail until WZCW was touring in Europe for the build-up to Apocalypse, so the memory is fresh in his mind, much like his memories of his rivalry with Ty Burna. With his Ascension obligations now lifted from him and the clock counting down the days to Meltdown 100 and his showdown with Ty; Dave was free to travel early to Los Angeles, the location of what could be his last battle. No doubt the likes of Stacey Madison, Leon Kensworth, Johnny Klamor and Becky Serra will want to get him to sit down and contemplate his thoughts for the WZCW fans and get the official quotes before the big event, but at this point, to Dave, the words didn’t matter, he has a date with destiny and there’s only two outcomes; rise or fall.

Airports always were a fun place to go to for Dave as he would gladly pose for photos with fans or sign autographs for them, but on this occasion, he wanted to put himself first. It felt forever before he was finally on the flight, having to unnaturally turn fans away and just plain ignore everyone outside of the airport employees. As he sat on his flight from Orlando to LA, he thought back to the last time he had to go through hell; Unscripted 2011, Ty Burna’s reign was peaking with his record-breaking World Championship run, the Apostles of Chaos causing destruction at his command, WZCW was falling into darkness and all that was left to stand in Ty’s way was Dave, Steven Kurtesy and Mr. Baller on Ty’s battleground; the Cell. It had been a long and gruelling between the four of them, chairs were swung, stairs were through and the Cell itself suffered damage from their actions. Kurtesy and Baller were on top of the Cell, out of energy from taking out the Apostles and stopping their interference. It was down to Dave and Ty in the ring, and Ty had just bested Dave out of the Stamp of Authority into the Final Séance. The pain was so much for Dave as his throat was being crushed by Ty’s grip, but a voice told him that he mustn’t give up, the company counts on him saving them and stopping Ty’s darkness from growing. He remembers the adrenaline taking over and somehow mustering the strength to powerbomb the Champion, but it seemed useless as his strength was waning and Ty’s grip still held until the chair to the ribs finally released him. He remembers time slowing down as he got to his feet and lifted Ty onto his shoulders, the Stamp of Authority took forever to hit and before Dave could realise what had happened, he had become the WZCW World Heavyweight Champion. Reality returned to him with the overwhelming emotion he was feeling from winning the title that he was told he wouldn’t ever have, he did it when people said he couldn’t and he did it by defeating the man that many thought was unstoppable. Dave thought he had done enough to save the WZCW from Ty Burna as he was the man to finally beat him and become the new Champion. This was the last time Ty had the title around his waist, and he wouldn’t get it again because of the efforts that Dave went through to see that reign end, little did he know what lied in wait for him after that night.

The stewardess breaks Dave out of his daze to ask him what he wants to drink, he just wanted Coke, this wasn’t a time to drown sorrows over what could be end, because it hasn’t come yet, it had already arrived for him. As he held his drink, he felt something tingle on his hand, and as he checked his, he flung his cup in shock, spilling the drink onto another passenger. While the other passenger complained about his suit, Dave didn’t care, he was in a trance, staring at the scorpion that was resting on his hand. The scorpion wasn’t threatening or being defensive, but rather being dormant on the back of his hand. Dave was just staring at the beast, ignoring the angry passenger, only for his focus to be broken when the Captain calls to say that Flight AA74 to Los Angeles was due to be landing in the next twenty minutes. He looks back and discovers that the scorpion has disappeared once again, disappointed, he turns his attention to the passenger with the Coke problem to address the chaos he caused.

A week has passed since Dave had arrived in LA, he’s spent his time training and preparing his body for the punishment it’s going to endure very soon. Since his last match, he had discovered Steamboat Ricky Yoga to be a great way of keeping his body in check, not to mention he found it relaxing and helped focus his mind. The scorpion had appeared a couple more times during the day, but he found no easy means of sleeping as it kept occupying its dreams, so the yoga was a welcome relief to keep him from focusing on the arachnid. WZCW production teams had arrived in LA the other day and had begun to set up at the Staples Center downtown, and to no surprise, he’s had missed calls and texts from the interview team to have a one-to-one session. Mr. Banks had texted him and insisted that he do an interview to help hype up the show, but Dave didn’t care, he had more important matters to deal with. He’s hardly spoken to anyone since he arrived in LA, many assume it’s because he’s depressed and accepted defeat to Ty, but it was far from that, Dave’s return to the ring was a delicate process that required his focus. As much as he’d want to consult the matter with Ace and his sister Dani, this was something that he must do alone, which pained him as they were family to him. Ace was the first friend that Dave had when they debuted on Meltdown 20 and they changed the Tag Division with the formation of the FHD, unfortunately for Ace, he suffered a career-ending injury at the hands of Showtime Cougar at the first Megashow. Dave extracted revenge by winning the EurAsian Championship from Showtime at Kingdom Come II, his reign as Meltdown’s Champion was one that caught Ty’s attention that he challenged Dave to face him for World Title in 2010. However, because Dave vacated the EurAsian belt to challenge Ty, Chuck Myles banned him from any World Title until after the Third Lethal Lottery. Ty had a plan and Dave fell for it, he lost everything because he played into Ty’s hand and it happened again just the other week, only this time Dave has a chance to save himself before losing all that’s left of his time with the company. He refuses to let Ascension 74 be his final one in charge unless he left on his terms, not through Vance Bateman’s wishes, or through Ty Burna playing him again.

After a couple more days had passed, Dave finally yielded and chose to let Leon conduct the interview process because he knew that he would carry the interview with professionalism and optimism. The interview wasn’t until tomorrow but Dave had a few ideas in mind what he wanted to say in the build-up to Meltdown 100, but today he decided to think about what was truly bugging him, the scorpion. He kept dreaming and fantasising about it night and day, as much as he wanted to admit that the yoga kept him focused, it didn’t stop the beast from coming back into his mind, so he wanted to solve the riddle behind its haunting of his thoughts. After searching online for a while, he came across a parable, one that he hadn’t heard of in a long time, not since he was young and he had long forgot about:

A scorpion was walking along the bank of a river, wondering how to get to the other side. Suddenly, he saw a fox. He asked the fox to take him on his back across the river. The fox said 'No. If I do that, you'll sting me and I'll drown.' The scorpion assured him, 'If I did that, we'd both drown.' So, the fox thought about it, and finally agreed. So, the scorpion climbed up on his back, and the fox began to swim, but halfway across the river, the scorpion stung him. As the poison filled his veins, the fox turned to the scorpion and said, 'Why did you do that? Now you'll drown too.' 'I couldn't help it,' said the scorpion, 'it's my nature'.

Those words were starting to make sense to Big Dave, it was something he had overlooked for a good long while and he became enticed by what was presented to him, he may have found what he had been looking for. He texted Leon to look up this parable in preparation for the interview tomorrow and when Leon asked if there was anything else, all Dave replied with was ‘My last match’.

The following day at the Staples Center, in a designated interview spot, Leon waited. He grew anxious as Dave was late, which is something he never associated with the Ascension GM. As he was preparing to get the crew to pack up and text Mr. Banks of the no-show, Dave finally shows. Leon offers Dave a seat and would express his disappointment at Dave’s delay but the look in Dave’s eyes told him to start the cameras and get the interview going.

Ladies and Gentleman, at Meltdown 100, we will be witnessing one of the biggest matches we’ve ever seen; former-World Champion Ty Burna returns to the WZCW to face off against the Ascension General Manager, Big Dave, the conditions being that if Big Dave loses, he’s fired as GM. Dave, I know it hasn’t been an easy time in the countdown to this match, not having a match since Meltdown 76…

(interrupting) 74.

I’m sorry?

(frustrated) Leon, I asked you to remember my last match. While Ty Burna fired me for holding the line against him at Meltdown 76, my last match was Meltdown 74. I faced off against Titus and Steamboat Ricky and that night, Ty Burna stopped me from competing after that match. (angrily) Before you start splitting hairs about being fired before by Ty for stopping him reclaiming the World Heavyweight Championship, he ended my career at Meltdown 74. And the irony is that on this occasion, the 100th episode of Meltdown, my last Ascension could be the 74th.

Dave smirks to himself.

You could call it coincidence, or inconvenient timing. But it doesn’t matter because my last match and last show as a GM are both the 74th episode of each respective show, or at least what everyone is expected at this time.

Dave settles down before Leon is allowed to resume.

I’m sorry to not have realised that beforehand, it is a cruel fate, but I wanted to bring your attention to the parable you mentioned to me the other day, ‘The Scorpion and the Fox’. It’s an old tale as many would know, and from reading it, I can understand why you may see this match a recall to that story?

Dave glares at him.

Oh really?

Yes, you see Ty as this scorpion. His deceptions, trickery and dark character have always been in his nature. You have been a front witness to this on multiple occasions and what happened on the past Ascension was an example of that.

Leon notices that Dave is smiling to himself.

Dave?

Dave turns to Leon with a sigh.

Oh Leon, you think that Ty is the scorpion? No, no. When I told you to look up about that story, it was because I wanted to read it about what’s going to come out of me. Ty’s nature may indeed be about deceiving everyone to gain the upper hand, but he forgets my own personal nature; the fact I will do whatever it takes to stop him. Now, while you may bring up factors like him eliminating me from Lethal Lottery III and him firing me, lest not forget that I was the one who took him down from the mountain top and kept from ascending again. I sacrificed my own body to end Ty’s World Title reign, I sacrificed my career to stop Ty from regaining it, and it kills Ty that the one thing he could never do was put me down for good. It’s my nature to stop him, no matter the consequence. What’s different on this occasion is that he fired me because he saw no alternative as I had the ultimate victory over him, but hardly anyone is going to remember that. At Meltdown 100, Ty believes he has me in his grasp because I’m the one with everything to lose, when all he has out of this is the opportunity to gain the one thing he’s always wanted, my final demise. However, it is in my nature to stop him from gaining what he wants because I will stop at nothing to put a halt to his actions once again because it is in my nature to beat him. He plans on taking me to hell, I say let him, I will take him down with me and he will know how much of a sting I have still have. I will give every drop of sweat, every drop of blood, he’s going to get a Big Dave that he’s never seen before, but more importantly he’s going to get a Big Dave that no-one is going to forget!

Dave gets up immediately from his chair and leaves the interview area as Leon looks in shock and surprise. Dave immediately heads towards the gorilla position within the area and walks straight through before stopping in front of the curtain; he close his eyes and listens carefully as a song he hasn’t heard of in a long time starts playing in his head. He opens his eyes and smirks before walking away from the curtain and heading towards the arena exit feeling something he hasn’t felt in a long time, the power and intensity of being a competitor in the WZCW ring. He is ready, he is prepared to face the demons that haunt him, he has found his drive once again, but most importantly, more than anything; Big Dave is back!
